Just One More Step

TLS 365 Experience #275
November 30, 2017

Advice from long ago when I thought I was finished or had enough of something, was to take one more step. Thoughts of not being good enough surfaced at times and perfection at other times, though its larger message was much deeper than my small thoughts of the time.  Sorting out a problem one day, the labyrinth offered the opportunity to get up and away from the issue and clear the mind.

The peace of the walk was interrupted by thoughts that took me back to earlier days and the message of taking one more step surfaced. Remembering I was on a walk of peace and clarity, I began to release thoughts from my mind in order to have the clarity to focus on the problem at hand. As thoughts continued to surface, determination became the focus to continue the walk. The more thoughts arose, the more I walked until I stopped in the center and sat down to listen. Finally achieving the quiet and calm, I relaxed and felt peaceful again and soon after rose to complete the walk in the return steps. In those steps a realization of how determination was what drove the next step. Determination was indeed the answer to the problem at hand and taking one more step had helped to understand this.

A  greater understanding revealed itself however and in taking one more step showed a perspective that would not have been seen had I not. That further step provided a wonderful moment to evaluate efforts and really understand satisfaction. It also offered a curiosity; what if when I had the problem, I just took the next step and considered what the solution might be… what might I have truly realized in the walk of solution?

Community Love Walk

TLS 365 Experience #274
November 29, 2017

Walk of Community, Walk of love, light, healing and blessings There was such love for our friend in the community beyond family and friends that we all discovered quickly, as people began to show up at the hospital making our private family waiting room grow so much that we had to be moved to a larger space.  We waited with many emotions present as our loved one clung to life support and as it became news, more people appeared.

As there was a labyrinth outside, a few of us decided to create a walk of prayer and hope and invited those in the waiting room to join us. We asked for all to have hope, send healing wishes and blessings with light and I have to think what it did for our friend, it also did for those who walked. They had to allow and bring it up in themselves to send it on and on this very tragic and scary day, we created community for our community member.

We are so grateful for this labyrinth that brought us together in such a purposeful and special way. It gave us a place to do something with the grief and a way to turn it around into something better for everyone. I have to think that this body of love and light of hope made all the difference as our loved one found her way back to us.

The Things We Carry

TLS 365 Experience #273
November 28, 2017

Playing games for realizing potential and understanding life, I took an exercise and applied it to the labyrinth at a conference. I asked each to bring all the things they came into the course with including coats, purses, laptops, notepads, books, bags, drinks, food, etc. Some had much to carry and some had a few had very little.

They began their walk with the things they carry and at any point, they were encouraged to put down what they did not want to carry any longer on the labyrinth.  Anything left on the labyrinth was fair game for another to pick up on their walk. Our only objective was to not leave anything on the labyrinth. As they completed their walks, each brought their new/old belongings to a circle and each created a story with the items they had in their possession around a given topic.

It was a fun and amusing experience as was the retrieval of possessions afterward. The conversation that followed led to some greater realizations about the things we carry, choices, and the creativity in spontaneity.

Impromptu Education

TLS 365 Experience #272
November 27, 2017

We suddenly had extra time in our schedule open up in between lectures with a speaker absence and adjustment and when put on the spot to engage our group, I offered an exercise to listen and draw out what each heard, giving instructions for following the path of a labyrinth design. Without framework for size or purpose, proportion was off in the drawings, though interestingly consistent in some areas. They were all then shown the design that had been used.

Next I asked them to close their eyes and draw the design with the same set of directions. While some aspects were understandably distorted, the consistency of the design held and most shared that seeing the design in their mind assisted them. We finished by showing all a seed pattern and had them draw it out and then finger walk and journal to complete our time together. It was well received and wonderfully engaging for being an impromptu activity.

A Gratitude Tool

TLS 365 Experience #271
November 26, 2017

The walk of the labyrinth is a walk of gratitude for me. I no longer walk with any other intent and where I might come onto the labyrinth wanting to understand something further, when I begin it with gratitude and appreciation all things that present themselves with a thankful heart, the answer is always found in the gratitude. Even when I don’t feel this way when I come to the labyrinth, how I begin makes the ending always better. I realized this has become a personal ministry, a life focus and it affirms my soul to use this tool as one dedicated to the gifts in the world that gratitude brings.

Mirrored Effect

TLS 365 Experience #270
November 25, 2017

There are times when I used to think that I could not do one more thing. Life can get pretty overwhelming and whether it is in all the things to do and complete, or in all the things I need to be, it just felt like there was no point in going further. It is when I learned to step back and evaluate what I am doing and whether it is worth it, that it became the first step all over again. Either I walked away from what wasn’t necessary or purposeful or walk toward what I began with a new appreciation.

I realized this one day on the labyrinth as I kept finding distraction and losing the path. I started over a number of times before realizing that I did not need to start from the beginning. That made me realize I could start from where I was at and go where I wanted..or not even go at all.

It was no surprise to me to see my kids in this quandry in figuring out homework, projects or just doing something they thought they wanted to do. When I began to change my direction, so did they. Of the things I learn on the labyrinth, this one opened up the gift of a mirror.

Journey to the Center of Truth

TLS 365 Experience #269
November 24, 2017

Either too busy, tired, pain, distracted or having a variety of items pop up to take off course what I think I cannot do, the labyrinth has taught a different perspective. Years ago when thoughts were surrounded by lack in my life, the labyrinth brought abundance as it showed what was there.

When a spouse departed, the feeling of isolation and aloneness led to long walks and again to the path of paths. On the labyrinth, I was again reminded of what I had in friends, family, acquaintances, and with love of purpose, people and of life; I was never alone.

At a time when meeting failure with failure seemed to have become a trend, I sketched and in those drawings came the shape of the labyrinth that always held truth that was always available. The reality of failure was in the finding of another way.

The labyrinth design is one to remind, rediscover and reacquaint ourselves with ourselves to discover our energy source at the center of it all, our truth.

A Tool Of Gratitude

TLS 365 Experience #268
November 23, 2017

Happy Thanksgiving! It is a day for thanks and giving to foster the rest of the days to be of similar praise.

A day of Great and Full Tnanks St. Louis 2010 LATEach walk is one of gratitude, even when we don’t seem to realize it. Creating, discovering, or finding a familiar path is the first gratitude. Without its being there, we would not walk the path…and we have gratitude.  Coming to the walk, arrives in listening to our inner voice and how it calls us to walk. Honoring that is something to be thankful for.  Walking it and allowing for the paths to provide is yet another great and fullness of the labyrinth. Being fast, slow or somewhere in between is our presence on the labyrinth and noticing it is another gift we are appreciative of. Observance itself is a part of our being, though a skill that grows with use and our practice is another gratitude we can enjoy. Completing our walk brings a sense of accomplishment and with that a natural self appreciation too.

No matter how you walk, there is a great sense of appreciation, thankfulness and gratitude that accompanies the labyrinth discovered by those who walk and share it.

Opportunity Invited

TLS 365 Experience #267
November 22, 2017

Laying out the canvas labyrinth for a walk later on in the afternoon, I set up the room and then went about finishing tasks. Sitting in an adjacent room working, small light hearted could be heard and as the sound escalated and endured, it piqued curiosity, so I went to investigate and nearing, the sound of children playing were coming from the room with the labyrinth. Not wishing to disturb, I peeked an eye around the corner and found three young children skipping about and playing on the labyrinth. Observing from a distance it brought a smile to see then run around and stir up the energy.

Walking back to the work at hand, the thought occurred, when you lay out a labyrinth, you invite all kinds of opportunity.

Adding Begets Adding

TLS 365 Experience #266
November 21, 2017

Labyrinth in the sand on the beach of a cool autumn day
Having the afternoon off and wanting to spend it outdoors while the weather still permitted, the open air called for a walk that ended up on the edge of the beach. Not complete with the walk, a long stick provided the right tool to create a quick labyrinth in the sand.

Slipping off shoes, the coolness was perfect and the grains soft and giving beneath the weight of walking. Meeting just the right requirements for soul soothing, the landscape, nature and outdoors created moments of fullness and restoration that added to me when I added them.
