Day 31: January 31
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

Thirty days have gone by in this new year and as we come to the last day of the month that defines what honesty is to us, today is a day to review your findings. What did you create this month in the Year of Living Honestly?

Our first quarter of this program brings us into the focus of awareness on the labyrinth and in our yearly theme.  A simple walk can often produce so much.

Remembering that our perspective is all about what we can champion in our lives as we discover the power of honesty as the great step into discovering more of what we are capable of.

Here are a few thoughts to consider from the past 30 days:
1. Where did you find honesty in your walk?
2. Where did you find honesty outside your walk?
3. What made you most aware of what you are capable of?
4. What kind of affect did your experience have on you? Others?
5. If you were to define honesty, what examples could you give from this month?
6. Is your definition of honesty different after this month than before?
7. What was your most memorable experience this month?
8. What do you know more about now than you did before?
9. Did you  enjoy using the patterns, metaphors and exercise of the labyrinth in your discoveries?
10. What is your definition of honesty?

A brief review of the month:
Interesting ideas to consider and promote thought to walk on this month.
What does it mean to define honesty? Defining your Kairos time. Intimate listening. Observing what rises in honesty. Defining your design. Walking in solution. Where do we put our discoveries? What do we gain in honest service? Realizing the amusing and real moments. When are the honest moments. Dreams or Drama? Healthy transitions. Meaning assigned. Is it true? Mid Month Reflections. Where freedom and honesty meet you. Efficiency from honesty. Making things better. How mistakes help.  Working as whole. Utilizing acceptance. Honesty as a user friendly practice. The beginnings of endings. Earth Integrity. Predawn Honesty.  Walk with what you don’t have to find what you do. Tuning in. Dance with the truth. Patterns and metaphors in your day. Karmic Truths

Day 30: January 30
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

We have a first hand look at the world of honesty from the spam invasion that seems to have found the comment area of our blog. Thanks to those who are sending earnest commentary, questions and sharing. The spammers send complimentary notes, though raise all kinds of ethical questions of taking content with little regard to our purpose here. Whether it’s a technology invasiveness or human transgression, we can find the world around us appears to have moments of dishonor and little regard for our earnest efforts;  walk to re engage what is true, what can be done and what it is that we really do have to do. Sometimes these things take care of themselves, other times we seek assistance and in other situations, we find the lessons of the experience to be telling.

Invited to a few marketing forums already this year, it is surprising to realize how many individuals do not use their own content and rely on others to say what they mean. From idea to implementation it appears possible to have others create your life for you to sell to others.  When participants in my workshops spoke of “stealing” my ideas and activities, it came as a surprise to them that I offered a better way that might keep them more honest, I let them know we engaged to inspire individuals to their own truth and ability. It does seem we are a world asleep to our believing in our own ability and honestly living into what is possible. When one takes on the idea of honesty as we have here,  it is a likely reality that we’ll encounter the opposite side in our experiences. How and where we walk with that can establish the depth of our determination to simply realize something that will service us as much as it will service others. When we discover what we are all about, small minded acts seem to become trivial. We all have our own karmic path to travel and paying attention to the bounty that shows up on ours is a full time experience of greatness.

A suggestion to walk with:

How do dishonest actions inspire your honest ones?

Synchronous Steps

Day 29: January 29
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

On my way to an event for a planning, the drive had a way of alerting me to the status I would arrive at as the directions seemed straightforward and simple, though for some reason obtaining the actual address seemed brought with unreal complications. Thinking of the unconstructed areas in this new region, I put the address into the GPS device and found I looped around to the left and came back to the main road and then circumnavigated again to the right with a few more turns appeared to come along to make it interesting. By the time I arrived again on the original thoroughfare, I decided to switch off the GPS and rely on my own abilities to find the rest of the way there.

It seemed not unlike the times when awareness raises in the lack of trust or dependence on a device. It is in those times that we can inspire ourselves with an honest realization of what we actually need and how often it lays at the feet of our own ingenuity. Realizing I had created a driving labyrinth, I sat for a moment with a chuckle and before going in as I suspected the meeting held some interesting directions of similar patterning. In this brief reflection,  I wasn’t surprised when directions for our planning meeting took us off course and looping around a bit.

With an honest moment of sharing my thoughts about my drive and it’s very labyrinth nature in conjunction to our process, it was easy to elevate the consciousness to move onto the same path and use the ideas and directions in a way that would bring us to a clear and defined point. It was quite something to be able to draw out a labyrinth and illustrate where we had been and where we might go more effectively. Trusting the message, speaking of the synchronous observation and using it to create a better outcome were the honest realizations and efforts of using and becoming what we are capable of in this year long experience of living more honestly with our possibilities, potential and path opportunities.

A suggestion to walk with:

Observe how the patterns in your walk today are used throughout your day.

Where the Truth Lays

Day 28: January 28
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

Bringing the 365 Experience to a group was met with the discussion of honesty, a walk of contemplation and then a new conversation of the realities of the experience. Through the turns, we get new perspectives and we don’t stay on the same path that we may have met a situation, as we keep moving. We may also come back to that path later on, though we experience it with new eyes and new vision.

Our 365 Experience is much like this exploration of expanding our ideas, and this year’s theme around the honesty of what we are capable of really gave this group a sense of empowerment in a new way. The mere fact that we were not simply moving into the right or wrong that conditionally seems to be attached to honesty, was freeing and uplifting to the group and wholly appreciated. I was happy to receive feedback from the experience as there hasn’t been much in the way of comments or sharing so far and I would really like to post your experiences of how you found something more true of you here too.

One conversation that did come up that helped to move us beyond the right and wrong of conditional honesty was the question of the little white lie. The concern was in not hurting another, yet it also led to the stories we tell ourselves just to get through a situation. Everyone found a situation they could relate to and then we walked a stretch of path in that story, breathing and exhaling into the honest truth about the situation. As we came back to our discussion circle most all had found their own sense of what was true to do and a happy realization. The couple that did not, found that they would do something different by not saying what they thought until they understood the truth of it all better. The greatest part for all is in realizing their own truths and realizing a need to practice being in that.

A suggestion to walk with:

Walk with the little stories, dance with the truth today.

Have and Have Nots

Day 27: January 27
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

It was a dark and stormy night that turned into a dark and stormy day and the yearning to get outside for today’s walk found solace in the warmth of the indoors and comfort in listening to the cleansing process the Earth was experiencing outdoors. The rain’s consistency became a meditation that accompanied an indoor project of rubbings. When my copier suspended operations one day, I found rubbings were a way to quickly produce a more authentic artistic experience for a group facilitation. Today, in listening to the rain, the rubbings became meditative and with a variety to choose from, each finger walk seemed to have a different story. The simple grey tones also reflected the atmosphere quite well and it was interesting to notice where the center provided the brightest space.

A walk outdoors would have provided a nice cool briskness, though what was created indoors provided meditative reflectiveness while accomplishing something useful. Each walk has its own wisdom and truth and dropping away from all we could have, would have or should have reveals something far greater with more value. Defining what we can do, have available and can create makes life simpler, more meaningful and honest.

A suggestion to walk with:

Walk with what you don’t have and what you do have today and notice the difference.

Tuning In

Day 26: January 26
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

The walk of today brought out the honesty of listening. We speak much more frequently than we listen and it is an immense skill to hone in learning to create better ways to relate to everything. When listening can become our first response rather than the commonality we think we are creating with our stories, sharing and comments, we give ourselves a moment of leverage to listen, understand more of what is said through words, body language, tone and expression. Then what we communicate comes from a place that adds to the conversation and contributes to the well being. We have efficient and effective communications.

The labyrinth is a wonderful listening tool. It hears  our communication and speaks to us in steps and stages in our ability to listen and hear more of the conversation between the words as we see it at the beginning of our walk and the honesty that invites us gradually to the center. Listening in inspired this labyrinth of the ear this morning after my walk, fashioned after the natural labyrinth found in the ear.

A suggestion to walk with:

Fine tune your listening today in your walk and notice all you hear that isn’t spoken.

The Allure of Twilight

Day 25: January 25
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

This mornings definition called for barefoot in the small hours of the morning’s twilight. The gravel and dirt cold beneath my feet longed a bit for the familiar warm earth and grass mown labyrinth of my backyard in the Midwest a few summers ago.

The Chicago chill of January reminded me of the snow shuffling, so my mind sought out warmer memories.  While currently its much warmer in the desert, the morning holds a coolness to bristle the spirit and awaken the stride. Reminded of the Annual Gathering’s walk in similar hours the green of the grass was alluring to my barefooted heart and noting the illumination still glowing in the predawn shadows, I found the walk invigorating at first, but numbing by the center. Thankful for the small platform in the center, it allowed time for thawing out.

The very real wish to engage in what appeared magical gave way to the reality of the numbing effect, which was all too similar in this mornings walk in the uncomfortability of barefoot on cold stones and gravel. Sometimes the allure of a fantasy meets reality and gives into practicality and sometimes the endurance provides an introspective of ourselves that goes beyond what we may believe we are capable of when curiosity overtakes reasoning. These twilight hours can be the daring time of infinite possibilities and the honest moments where we dare to delve into dreams and desires come at a time when we are often the only ones up to witness it.

A suggestion to walk with:

Imagine your honesty at predawn, how does it call forth truth?

Earth Integrity

Day 24: January 24
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

To hear the story of creation from Jeffrey Bale is to hear an honest man’s endeavor for truth. Sharing the story of the creation of the Islandwood Labyrinth in Washington State,  Jeffrey shared the respect for nature honoring each stone for its significance and placement in the thousands he instilled into the heartfelt crafting of his design. Honoring where each element came from and thankful for their participation in the humble beauty of his art, it gave participants a deep regard for the single placement of their feet upon the pathways.

The sheer quantity of stone and story that poured into this design will remain a historical element of unassuming  wealth borne of the artistry of one man’s relationship with the integrity of nature’s gifts. Its natural abundance comes in the humility of its design and its modest residence nestled just off the roadway trailing down a very short distance to discover a serenity in seclusion amidst the lineage of tall trees.

One does not often encounter such a deep and abiding honor of an encounter with Earth and art in this way. It’s memory will live long and its meaning will live into a higher regard in the way of development and creation for myself and most likely those fortunate enough to have experienced the venerable honesty of this artist’s message and mission.

A suggestion to walk with:

Focus upon where and how you use your Earth this day.

In the Beginning

Day 23: January 23
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

In the beginning, there is a point of intention, though sometimes we don’t always notice it. We want to walk, practice or just be in the experience and so we come to the walk in whatever way that serves us knowing, though not always knowing the truth that sits with us. We may ask a question and have clarity around it and walk to discover, though in that beginning moment the answer is already understood.

The walk serves to support, open and supply us with evidence that helps us to open and realize more perspective or reason beyond any doubts we might be questioning.

The walk we take helps us to believe more in our own ideas, abilities and inspirations. Each step becomes a clarity of purpose and the more we are open to it, willing and ready, the more likely what is at our beginning can be more visible to us in the ending. Our walk exercises our belief, truth and trust in what we know and in our own way, we find out the subtle honest nuances of who we are and what we are capable of in the steps we take.

Today’s walk in the desert was realized in the steps taken, solidified in the turns made and transitioned into a trust in reaching  the center as a place of holding space.  It deepened with perspective and materialized in the facets of realization that now sparkled with variety by the time the walk came to a close. At the end what was true in the beginning  remained and what accompanied it was an honest evaluation of its full value.

A suggestion to walk with:

How is your beginning more realized at the end?

Creative Scheduling

Day 22: January 22
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

I find the more we practice the more we make the realizations about what is right, what is true and what is aligned with our purpose and beliefs. I got in the habit of creating a short focus of time daily to the labyrinth and that helped me to make more  daily habits that support my efforts.

It isn’t for everyone, though it works for me and has gotten easier over the past 14 years. When we can set up simpler ideas and have some value behind them, we are more likely to find that it isn’t a goal, or overarching commitment, it is pure enjoyment and something we look forward to discovering. In this practice, its about realizing what else we possess in gifts, talents and abilities and what more we are capable of. Think of it as a daily surprise awaiting as it is more honest approach and much more productive.

I have a few labyrinths in design hung on the walls and they make for a quick walk while I am waiting for something. The approach is to encounter the experience as something I am looking to realize or discover more than I know right now. It becomes a growing game of what’s next, what’s more and what else I can do or be. When I make the labyrinths easily available, I’m more likely to use them. A picture on the wall, a hanging finger labyrinth, a design on your floor or even just the very small devices left in different rooms can serve us in simple moments of magic.

Define more of your moments in this way and notice how much easier it becomes to put value into your schedule for daily discoveries. Let’s not forget how easy it is to download a labyrinth walk on a smart phone application.

A suggestion to walk with:

Simplify one important thing today to make it more user friendly.
