Day 19: January 19
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition
After yesterday’s walk of imagination, I walked over to the partial labyrinth with a bit of paint and added a line to the border of what I now call the imagination labyrinth. I look forward to adding more each day that I have the opportunity for free early morning time. There’s something of a quiet satisfaction in this. Today I reflected on this and in walking home on an alternative route, took a concrete pathway that extends for two blocks between the two subdivisions of homes. This area has a winding walkway, a variety of trees landscaped and a plethora of small red stone that covers everything in between the walls that border the homes.
As I walked along, I came upon another of these large slabs of concrete sitting vacant in the expanse of the area. It was similar to the one I had just come from and it occurred that there were probably similar slabs all over the city in these walkways. What would you do with sudden blank canvas that presented itself? For me, I wondered how the city might benefit from a collaborative effort of adding designs for a variety of purposes to these slabs and how a labyrinth in so many locations might give way to increasing meditation, problem solving and connection, just to name a few of the benefits, in a subtle simple way.
I had wanted to find an honest way to connect as a transplant to this community now that I am staying, and this seems to be a worthy contribution to make it possible. Praying past the politics on the walk today, I began to outline the structure for a proposal in my mind. This is a defining moment of honest contribution from an honest mistake that is being rectified in a better way…. and it feels wonderful!
There comes the moment of honest realization that just because you can do a thing, is it necessary?
A suggestion to walk with:
Today observe what mistakes have honestly improved your circumstances.
TLS 365 Experience 2018: The Year of Living Honestly
Whether it’s a daily walk, teaching others, sharing an experience, expressions of art, building or design, we explore the questions of what brings us to honesty in our use of the labyrinth.
In a world of emerging truth, the labyrinth is a great experience to discover more of what is right and true about ourselves and humanity. Join us in sharing the honest moments it reveals.
