The Profound of What Comes Round

Day 212  July 31
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

On this last day of the month and the end of the month of Exploration and Return, we have brought back much in our voyage of what the path is all about. We have found much evidence to support our year long journey of honest living and growing what is within. The path of exploration has yielded quite a journey of diving in and discovering what is possible through the messages of the labyrinth that appeared along the way.

In June we began this journey unsure of its destination and in June we return from it with much more of a world connection than we might otherwise would have known. We have traveled the world and touched only the surface. We began with the art of Denny Dyke, Sand Master of art and labyrinths in the Northwest region of the United States and we end with the stone art of Jeffrey Bale there too. It is interesting that I met both at last year’s Gathering and hadn’t realized how the ending of this journey would bring it all together again. Of course that is all in the nature of the walk, isn’t it?

Blessings to all who have become part of this journey and much in gratitude for those who have shared in our walks, talks and in other ways. Join us in August for a new excursion about our state of united ness.

On this 212th day…
Explore the ways you come to an ending and find a new beginning in your walk of today.

Interactive Map Progress
A great Interactive experience this month will include a google map to track where we have been and what labyrinths you submit. Lets see if we can make a labyrinth pathway out of the month of travels based on the locations offered.  We began in Portland, Oregon and ended on Bainbridge, Island, Washington.  Click here to see how our labyrinth grew this month!

Our completed map of Exploration from the Northwestern United States to Austria in June and Austria to the Northwestern United States in July. Our circle is complete and richer for the experience!

World Wide Explorations in the Month of July 2018 for the TLS 365 Experience. Part II
Welcome July!

Our exploration this month is to Walk in reflection of our direction. We traveled from America’s west coast to Australia, Asia and the Swedish Lapland’s and found our centered point in Austria by the month’s end. July will complete our world walk and return us to American shores. It’s been a wild and wooly time of exploration in the world to expand our cultural and connective perspective of the labyrinths and their purposes worldwide. This is indeed the global course in Labyrinthing with world wondering discovered in our wandering.
This month, we return from our center in Austria and traverse the world.

  1. Go Global….Explore the World
Investigate the world wonders of labyrinth design that are unique and different. From the permanent structures that are built to the canvas portable unique designs or the finger labyrinths that inspire a different walk, share the images at the 365 Experience on the TLS website and provide some detail and share your thoughts. Note how these designs are  outside the box of traditional design and how they might take us outside the design we’ve been living in.  They can be quite diverse or small simple adjustments that make it different too. From Austria to Portland… the second half begins!
  2. Grow Local…. Bring the World to you
Let your walks, programs, designs, creations and simple enthusiasm be inspired by what the world offers us with fresh ways to create new experiences in the 30 days of this month. If it is doing something different each day, walking a new labyrinth, designing, researching or some new way to share, do it then share it with us! By becoming acquainted with the unique labyrinths of the world, we can be inspired as to why they are different, how they serve and what they offer on the same path we walk on in our home or local community area. What will you have created by the end of our month?

Joining Paths

Day 211  July 30
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

The Labyrinth Society Gathering of 2013 brought us to the serenity of Vancouver Island. There one can find an active labyrinth interest and a great network of effort in the people who hosted the Gathering and the connections that have supported the growth. It appears there are 73 established labyrinths in British Columbia alone and that takes a good deal of spreading the word to create interest, enthusiasm and value. Our Gathering brought school children out to the beaches where numerous labyrinths were created by small groups. Including the designs we left embedded in the Earth’s awareness from the Gathering, there must be over 100 labyrinths that grace the space of the area of British Columbia. Vancouver Island Network.

This labyrinth in Parksville was one we visited and its vibrant blue colors emulate the sea. There are references to the sea throughout and words to bring one to a place where the water within us is activated in the walking to a calmer degree. The larger message of Canada that we can take away, is that even though they are as wide as the United States and have vast regions of uninhabitable lands in between, each province has formed a network and united in common interest, sharing the wealth in the designs and land formation and in the education and interest.

As we begin our descent from our world explorations and our look at what we bring back, this last part of Canadian labyrinths networks can be an inspiration of how we can create more together. I wanted to unite people in the region of Illinois and together with two others we began a small group of interest, so as we rejoin the United States, perhaps this world wide look might instill a closer connection for our communities in each state.

On this 211th day…
Explore the connections of the labyrinth you have within your own community. Consider how it flows and how you are a part of helping it to do so, if not, it might be an opportunity to consider.

When the Water Walks

Day 210:  July 29
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Exploration

Image of the stone labyrinth at the waters edge

The Labyrinth at Castlegar in British Columbia. Photo Credit and design: Joan Alexander

The journeys across Canada from the Eastern Providences find their way to the edge of the Western border in British Columbia. Discovering a pathway at the meeting of two rivers on Zuckerberg National Heritage Island in the British Columbian province a small simple labyrinth rests on the river’s edge and invites the river to walk the labyrinth for an annual cleansing as the rivers rise. The natural tides of the Earth are prolific and honest in the way of the waves and to be in the accepting of the waters way with the world and allowing of its natural ingress and egress, is to explore the expansion of abilities.

This is on the mark with our aim and purpose this year to explore and expand our natural abilities. What do we learn of the labyrinths of the world in their placement and purpose when nature becomes a part of its existence and what do we learn of ourselves?

On this 210th day…
Explore your walk with acceptance and allowance today of whatever in in your focus and observe the expansion.

Our Mind of Design

Day 209  July 28
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

A floral circular labyrinth image

The Silver Springs Botanical Garden Labyrinth in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Photo Credits: Play Outside Guide

South of Edmonton in the Province of Alberta, Canada, the Silver Springs Botanical Gardens appreciates a variety of ways to showcase the natural flora of the area. Together there are 14 different types of gardens in the Botanical Park and the beautiful representation of purple flora and artistic brick make for a visual appreciation to accompany any walk.

The children in this photo remind us to step lively in our explorations and discoveries and in doing so we might find a little of the magic that children naturally do. The labyrinth does not have to have visual aesthetics to be pleasing, though when we can explore a bit about each, we become a little more intrigued in what all is provided. The unknown is always a walk of wonder, though sometimes a little exploration gives us meaning in the purpose of the known. Realizing that the labyrinth design can make such artistic contribution that it shows up in such interesting ways, is an artists exploration of the labyrinth too. While a walk is more than design, a design is often found in the walk.

On this 209th day…
Explore the fascinating explorations you have made with the labyrinth and what designs you have created in your walks or talks in sharing.

The Labyrinth of Acceptance

Day 208  July 27

In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

The Legacy Labyrinths Project has a purpose of positioning a labyrinth on each of the seven continents by the year 2020 and by 2030 to have installed several on each continent. The vision is to have each of these labyrinths represent a connection of labyrinths represented in the world. So far there are four other labyrinths created on three continents. This marks the 5th labyrinth. This labyrinth located in the Village of Val Marie in the Saskatchewan Province of Canada.  It is an 11 circuit Chartres style labyrinth measuring 85 feet in diameter and is made from native glacier formed stones. It is dedicated to the designer’s mother and similarly named in dedication to Mother Mary.

There are many wonderful world projects to inspire the gift that the labyrinth provides those interested with and a way to educate others to explore and discover their unique affinity to its design. The Legacy Labyrinths is just one. The Artline Project is another that brought together those labyrinths that fell on the 39th parallel and so brought a line across the United States Together. Like the Carol Shields Memorial, others have left a tribute to a cause, a person or a purpose. The great perspective of the labyrinth shows us there is no right or wrong, just the way things are and so what tribute we provide from its greater message that accepts all, is to be accepting of all ourselves. That is a legacy to appreciate and tribute.

On this 208th day…
Explore who you might honor with a labyrinth tribute and how it connects to a central purpose of service in your walk today.

In Marvelous Memorial

Day 207  July 26
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

an image of the Carol Shields Memorial Labyrinth

The Carol Shields Memorial Labyrinth in Kings Park Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Photo Credits: ft3, architecture design

The Manitoba Labyrinth Network was asked to join forces to honor the legendary work of  Carol Shields. She was a power house of a woman who grew up not far from where I did in Illinois. As she grew into her destiny, Toronto and then Manitoba became destinations for her explorations of life. She found it in her writing and through novels, championing the spirit of writers as a renowned international author and Manitoba’s only Pulitzer Prize winner. She has received 16 doctoral awards, the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Award and elevated to Chancellor of the University of Winnipeg.

In 2009 the design of the labyrinth emerged in honor of Carol Shields in Kings Park, an area of Winnipeg, Manitoba  with a memorial garden, a quote wall and a versatilely designed labyrinth. The design uses some of the shrubs from her novel, Larry’s Party,  about a protagonist who becomes a maze and labyrinth designer after visiting the English Hampton Court labyrinth. The labyrinth design is also gently sloped in the center, which is said to promote the healing effects of relaxation. It seems Carol’s spirit is within the walk, still aiding and assisting other’s as was her abundant natural gift.

There was much thought and care in designing and implementing this labyrinth that continues to give and its very existence somehow seems to emulate the giving nature of  this remarkable woman. We are fortunate to have explored the values displayed throughout in this voyage of Canada. If you didn’t know her, she lives on in hearts, memories, publications, labyrinths and in this memorial.

On this 207th day…
Explore the legacy of your steps in the labyrinth, what has it yielded and how has it inspired?

Uncommon Efforts for Common Goals

Embrace the community of Toronto for their collaborative exploration and connective spirit. They began collaborating to produce the Toronto Public labyrinth located in the area known as Trinity Square Park in downtown Toronto. Their Labyrinth Community Network began in 2005 as they worked together to  recreate a  brick labyrinth from the  grass labyrinth that was installed in the year 2000 at the Holy Trinity Church. Since that time they have come together as a group offering news, events, activities, education, facilitators and the labyrinths that have developed as a result in Toronto and the province of Ontario.

This group is indicative of what a labyrinth is, a series of unique paths coming together to chart a course of exploration and expansion for a common purpose. These individuals in their common appreciation for the labyrinth, have created a center of knowledge and a directory of possibility for people all over the region to know the message of our steps.

On this 206th day…
Explore the ways you have come together independently with other like minded individuals or ideas to create something more for a better world. Sometimes it is just being a part and other times being an active participant… it all matters.

Subtle Steps of Exploration and Discovery

Day 205  July 24
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

On the other side of the Niagra Falls area of Canada opposite Lake Ontario in Toronto is a wonderful discovery of the labyrinth education of play. The Withrow Park North playground has a wading pool for toddlers that has a labyrinth at its base. The cemented area pools in the center so that when water from a fountain fills the area, it becomes a happy place to play. Without much realization, children are playing the labyrinth with parents, friends and family members. A wonderful integration of design with play in mind.

The key to this and the other wading pool labyrinths that appear to frequent the wonderful city of Toronto, is with the idea of implanting the idea of labyrinths in a way that can be a first step in familiarization for those taking their first steps in life. One of the best ways we can come to the labyrinth is in the self discovery phase, where we need no direction and we find its magic by following the honest place within us through our natural instincts.

Play along and Walk the Withrow Park North Labyrinth

Freedom Flows in our Steps

Day 204  July 23
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

The Drummond Hill Cemetery is not far from the Niagra River in the Niagra Falls area on the arm of the space that brings Canada and the United States in connection.  It’s expanse encompasses the area of the battle field of Stoney Creek. A historic battle in the times of the drive for freedom. A labyrinth marks a fitting place for a space to remember those who pursued in freedom’s name. Most think of war before freedom, though we forget that it is the freedom that brought the battle and freedom that was the main purpose of creating expansion into what was possible.

A cemetery is a wonderful place to have a labyrinth as so much goes on in a visit. Walking with our loved ones and speaking from our heart is a revealing healing for many. For those like myself who have seen many pass on this year, bring your own walk to the cemetery and provide a place for yourself or others to move with the story of his or her-story.

On this 204th day…
Explore the messages on your path today of those who have moved on from this life and leave yourself open to what heals your heart.

Dropping stones for Peace

Day 203  July 22
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

The brick and stone labyrinth

The Labyrinth of Peace is made of bricks from around the world. It includes stone and crushed recycled glass from conflict areas around the world. The Minister of Rosedale’s Queen Mary United church in Quebec had the idea to gather the stones and bricks that were cast upon others intending to hurt and bring them into a healing place of ecumenical peace. This idea is supported by multi-cultural faiths as a healing place that knows no boundaries. Bordered by the St. Lawrence Sea Way this experience in Montreal has physical boundaries, though they are ones that flow.

This brick and stone path of peace is a reminder to us of each of the stones we cast in the world away from the honest of our own innate abilities and gifts. Each time we worry, cast doubt or forget, our possibilities wait patiently for us to simply remember and there in we discover the promise of peace.

On this 203rd day…
Explore the flow of your own boundaries as you step upon the path. As you follow the way let the stones you carry drop away to find the peace within your center.
