Barefoot Surrender

Day 127: May 7
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

The Bench in the middle of the labyrinth, New EnglandStep into a barefoot experience with Karen S. of New England:

My favorite way to walk the labyrinth is barefoot, especially when the temperature remains above 60F and there is soft moss on the ground. Our intentional co-housing community has an enchanting wooded labyrinth that can be found on the Worldwide Labyrinth Locator.

I am fortunate to live so close to it and walk the path every day when the weather is warm enough. I have built quite an intimate relationship with this space and love basking in the freshness of nature there! When the birds sing, my spirit sings, too!

When I sit on the bench at the center to meditate, I am always delighted with visits from squirrels, chipmunks and a gardener snake once in a while.

Small celebrations of the day!

On this 127th day…
Celebrate nature’s goodness with a barefoot walk, where permissible. A finger walk with total surrender can also give a tactile experience outdoors with the surround sound of nature.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization
May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

Spot On

Day 101: April 11
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Amusement

101 Dalmatians and a bonafide labyrinth101 is an interesting number. It is the 26th prime number, also known as the Einstein prime, a twin prime pair, a sexy prime number (all about its relation to six), the fifth alternating factorial, a centered decagonal number, a palindrome and the atomic number of mendelevium to name a few of its universal designations. College courses refer to 101 as basic level courses of higher education and many refer to something that is elementary as 101.  The longest US Highways are often called 101 Routes, the number of keys on a computer keyboard (counting toggle keys…I bet you are counting now) or even the first number allocated to a checking account’s first check.

Used in a variety of organizations, naming conventions, books and projects, the 101 Dalmatians seems the most amusing use of 101. With just one Dalmatian, the number of spots is immense and with 101, the fun has just begun. The design of this day brings us a chance to spot what is basic, real and lighthearted and perhaps step between the lines of conformity to feel what’s real. Like the bone in the center, what inspires and is true will always be at the center of you.

On this 101st day…
Get back to what is basic, elementary and to the point in your walk of this day. What is at the center of all?

April's Banner Year of Living Honestly 2018April’s Focus

Let this month unfurl your creativity, spontaneity and jocularity. It feels good to feel good and while we have been conditioned to shush our good times, let the labyrinth be our own private creation station of amusement, enjoyment and playful experiments. This month educate with amusement and see how much farther you get. Have fun and be creative.  We have three opportunities to education your potential with amusement this month that involves either your personal walk, your ability to design and how much you can learn by sharing. On your Mark, Get Set…Go!

  1. Innovate – Walk Amused
In the 30 days that grace this month, play with the way you personally experience the labyrinth. Let this season of education be one of personal bests and enjoy finding a new way to be innovative, creative, inspired and amused in your personal experiences. I’d love to see what you come up with!
    Please share your wonderful experiences!

2. Create – Design Inspired
To date I have created 95 different labyrinth creations and designs since the beginning of the year, let that inspire you to create something new this month that is inspiring and firing for your imagination. Einstein said that playing with ideas was the highest form of research and this is an education for all of us.  As you walk in new ways, share your designs as I have done with mine last year and this. Perfection isn’t what we are after, amusement is! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! I will toss out lots of inspiring ideas… stay tuned daily.
Share away and become a glad designer instead of a mad one!

3. Relate – Share with Care
One of the best ways to learn anything is having to teach or explain it to someone else. Whether you facilitate others, teach or simply share with a few, spend the month discovering amusing new ways to help others get more out of their walk with a lighter attitude and a more earnest enjoyment in what you share. Anything you want to know more about, share and this month share with a fun flair and notice how much more you actually begin to understand. You just might find a side of yourself forgotten. To receive all that, be a great giver.
Share what you discover!

The Center of All

TLS 365 Experience #289
December 14, 2017

It’s in the simple moments with grandchildren that a family becomes extended and enriched. Mine had visited yesterday and I set up bowls of dried peas and pastas for them to create with as we made cookies in the kitchen. I spilled some flour on the counter and before I had a chance to wipe it up, the youngest was drawing stars in it.

I joined her and we made a variety of shapes, becoming more creative as we continued. It was in this play that my grandchild learned of the labyrinth, as the drawing of this symbol, to me seemed inevitable in creating and symbolizing. What was wonderful was in the application this young child brought to it. She commented on the paths and how they were ancestral. She noted that the outer paths were the great great grandparents and how each path led generationally to the center where she was.

My mind takes wondrous leaps in the wisdom of children, and isn’t that just like a child to know they are the center of all things in a family?

Eleven Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #286
December 11, 2017

A labyrinth of eleven'sOn this day of 11, comes the double benefit of the singular and significant number of one. Offered in the spirit of oneness, is the 11 labyrinth. Sitting in school, I had to come up with a design and nothing came except the number 11, which was the date I had put at the top of my paper. So I began to draw the number eleven on my paper in different directions. It seemed only natural to find a winding path through them and a point at where one reached the center or an end. Since this time, I’ve made a number of numbers and added to the eleven labyrinth, though this is the original simple beginning. Happy Day of Eleven!

Journey Into You

TLS 365 Experience #244
October 30, 2017

Journey into the Center of You LAT2007

Wherever we are in the world, the one place we can always go into to get away from others or out of a discomforting place is within.

For some it is not a known destination or one that may be fully welcoming in the moment, though it is the place where our truth exists. That can be liberating, encouraging and wonderfully reminding of who we are and how we are meant to be useful in the world.

It is a journey to appreciate and love, one step at a time. Know the gifts are both deep and priceless. The labyrinth’s journey unwinds us slowly to discover more in each step and to wind our way around to realizing its center and it is a journey of steps to get there.

Realize a significant prize is in the steps from here to there.

Imprinting Integration

TLS 365 Experience #137
July 15, 2017

Saint Tatoo and the Labyrinth

At 19 I added a tattoo to the back of my neck to express my Christianity. It spelled out the word Saint. Other spiritual influences that began to take shape in my life afterwards included the labyrinth and I found that when I walk into the labyrinth and into the center of the labyrinth, I find my spiritual center too.  I find that is where I become a saint.

Applying the labyrinth tattoo centers around this core belief and to me reinforces the message of going inward.

I love labyrinths and know that I can connect both sides of myself and integrate my thoughts and feelings.  I love that we can integrate other important natural concepts into our walk of the labyrinth as well and learn in a different way.

There Can Be Joy

TLS 365 Experience #77
May 16, 2017

One would think that an individual who promotes positivity and possibility in their work would be surrounded by it, though the truth is that those who work with this often encounter negativity regularly. It is a necessary part to explore, accept and improve our message.  We remind those who accept stress as a normalcy that there are techniques and choices to explore what we are truly capable of, should we dare to live differently.

I use the labyrinth for my personal introspection, faith and the conversation of hope for my everyday experiences. In this I am not alone and am reminded of the vitality and importance of my work. It reminds me of what I truly believe when I have doubt in the dealings of delivery to others who just need a reminder.

When I offer a walk of joy on the labyrinth, it speaks to the truth of my own doubts and reminders and offers the choice for living our birthright purposefully. It is not a straight shot, rather it is a winding, turning, spiraling that may seem confusing, though beyond that always has a path that provides a way to the center, and no matter what we want to make up about it… the center is always a center.

Start with Purpose

TLS 365 Experience #65
May 4, 2017
The Center Point of the LabyrinthIf I want to create a labyrinth, I start with the purpose.

I start at the center as the purpose will lead to the center and from there, and the paths will form keeping the intent in alignment.

Being human, we too, start with purpose from our center and all else forms the journey from here to there and back again.
