Shaping your Path

Day 141: May 21
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Three shapes of one pathIn a group of women yesterday, the dialogue following the walk included many of the trials and lessons that individuals were currently in process with. There was a sense of needing to fix the situation, as if the place they were in had no value. Between the over analysis and the curious expectancy of the group, I gave each a piece of paper and asked them to draw a shape that represented their circumstance and then asked them to walk again taking in consideration the shape they had chosen. After the walk, interesting dialogue came about in the way of what was balanced, what cycled and found its end a new beginning and taking notice of different angles and perspectives. Focusing on the shapes seemed to bring out the characteristics of their situation and an interesting matching characteristic of the shapes. This awareness provided an opportunity to see differently and discover that the blessing of the problem with a greater focus on solution.

For a change of perspective to what works, what’s good and what is right; celebrating the walk with acceptance of the shape you are in can make a difference in your steps and in your outcome. This design came to mind afterwards illustrating that point and remind us in our walk that moving through what we think is a problem can often show us the answer. The shapes are different colors to highlight their features and in walking through, it might at first seem confusing to step over into another shape or color, though staying on the one path will take you past confusion and into clarity.

On this 141st day…
Choose a shape to go along with a question and discover what shape you are in by following your path to conclusion and focusing on the characteristics of what you can appreciate.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization

May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

The 13th of Cheer

Day 104: April 14
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Amusement

The Labyrinth of Friday the 13th in ClarityHaving mixed up days in posting between yesterday and today, amusement is found in the mishaps and missteps that often offer a new or unique insight that the day before may not had understood. The mythinformation that may have sprung up yesterday among the superstitions is based on age old ideas that the population at the time was conditioned to receive. It is surprising that we still cling to that sense of fear and foreboding on this day in some ways and are more likely to be amused by the idea of black cat crossings, broken mirrors and lower ladder dwelling events as we tuck a rabbits foot into our pocket for insurance. This is where the labyrinth provides clarity in its meandering spirals and brings us to a new focal point. If yesterday brought up discord or phobia, realize that there is an enormous list of phobias that include a fear of potato chips, cibosolanumtuberosum. When we think we have conquered our propensity to focus away from fear we might realize as Winston Churchill explained years ago that the only thing to truly fear, is fear itself.

One might consider cheer to be the antithesis of fear as when there is a focus on one, the other is not present. Hence our communion with amusement in this national month of humor focus. Fear can keep us from our honest abilities and cheer can incite them to riot and expand. Cheer naively explores possibility and ends up with a pocketful of new potential just because it had a good time. It tends to expand our focus and that allows us to see beyond the potato chip in front of us and into the banquet beyond that we hunger for. Let fun liven your step today and experience the festival of life that ripples around you with new vision.

On this 104th day…
Toss cheer into the center as you begin your walk today and observe what occurs in the steps along the way to it.

April's Banner Year of Living Honestly 2018April’s Focus

Let this month unfurl your creativity, spontaneity and jocularity. It feels good to feel good and while we have been conditioned to shush our good times, let the labyrinth be our own private creation station of amusement, enjoyment and playful experiments. This month educate with amusement and see how much farther you get. Have fun and be creative.  We have three opportunities to education your potential with amusement this month that involves either your personal walk, your ability to design and how much you can learn by sharing. On your Mark, Get Set…Go!

  1. Innovate – Walk Amused
In the 30 days that grace this month, play with the way you personally experience the labyrinth. Let this season of education be one of personal bests and enjoy finding a new way to be innovative, creative, inspired and amused in your personal experiences. I’d love to see what you come up with!
    Please share your wonderful experiences!

2. Create – Design Inspired
To date I have created 95 different labyrinth creations and designs since the beginning of the year, let that inspire you to create something new this month that is inspiring and firing for your imagination. Einstein said that playing with ideas was the highest form of research and this is an education for all of us.  As you walk in new ways, share your designs as I have done with mine last year and this. Perfection isn’t what we are after, amusement is! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! I will toss out lots of inspiring ideas… stay tuned daily.
Share away and become a glad designer instead of a mad one!

3. Relate – Share with Care
One of the best ways to learn anything is having to teach or explain it to someone else. Whether you facilitate others, teach or simply share with a few, spend the month discovering amusing new ways to help others get more out of their walk with a lighter attitude and a more earnest enjoyment in what you share. Anything you want to know more about, share and this month share with a fun flair and notice how much more you actually begin to understand. You just might find a side of yourself forgotten. To receive all that, be a great giver.
Share what you discover!

Repeating Patterns

Day 34: February 3
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Love

Creativity is found in the swirls and designs that are all around us. A study in circles might be considered an infinite loop of endless time coming to the same conclusion repeatedly, though the art of circles has offered us depth and perspective when we move outside the three dimensions and into the Labyrinth Zone.

Using the heart as a medium this month is lending a new way to elevate creative consciousness. On one hand the drawing of the heart labyrinth can take on many design adventures of interpretation, and on the other, there is discovery of a new dimension unused by another’s design with appreciation for pointing the direction.

Creating the heart in your walk might be as easy as finger drawing it in the air as you move with a conscious intention to love every thought that pops up… no matter what. It might be found in walking with thoughts and expressing the word love into each sentence. This of course can lead to some interesting opportunities to noticing an honest resistance or the honest opportunity as well. Recall that this experience of honesty is all about elevating ourselves to what is possible when we speak to the truth in our soul. Love just gives us a reference point and notice of how much we actually do love and ways we might not have thought of that can bring us clarity, simplicity and honesty. It is there that we discover how capable we truly are. Love well today in your walk.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this third day…
Repeat or insert a love motion or expression into what you take into the labyrinth and stay dedicated to the experience to notice the end result.

February’s Focus

As it is the second month of the year, enjoy two opportunities… discovery and realization.

  1. Discover your Love capacity:
This month’s 28 days will focus on how we are loving the moments we are creating. Learning to be “in love” with our focus, it expands who we are beyond the partnered relational aspects and into the focus of loving what we offer the world, who we are in community, relating at a higher level to everything and everyone; and most significantly,  elevating the relationship we have with ourselves. Prepare for a wonderful experience of exercising the power of love with the freedom of honesty to realize a greater look at possibilities and potential n a delightful way. Discover how capable you are!

2. Realize synchronous evidence:
Inspired by the variety of heart shaped labyrinths, this month capture your experiences with images of the heart. Be on the look out for where the synchronicity of the moments where your heart is in focus and then look around to see where you can find the shape of a heart in symbol. Your awareness will expand and you just might be surprised to find that when we look with an open heart, we can find it in reference near by. It does require a bit of imagination, though the findings are wonderfully worth it. Share all the heart shaped labyrinth images you find with images, links or comments and I will be happy to post the images and moments.
Care to Share and Share to Care!

In the Beginning

Day 23: January 23
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

In the beginning, there is a point of intention, though sometimes we don’t always notice it. We want to walk, practice or just be in the experience and so we come to the walk in whatever way that serves us knowing, though not always knowing the truth that sits with us. We may ask a question and have clarity around it and walk to discover, though in that beginning moment the answer is already understood.

The walk serves to support, open and supply us with evidence that helps us to open and realize more perspective or reason beyond any doubts we might be questioning.

The walk we take helps us to believe more in our own ideas, abilities and inspirations. Each step becomes a clarity of purpose and the more we are open to it, willing and ready, the more likely what is at our beginning can be more visible to us in the ending. Our walk exercises our belief, truth and trust in what we know and in our own way, we find out the subtle honest nuances of who we are and what we are capable of in the steps we take.

Today’s walk in the desert was realized in the steps taken, solidified in the turns made and transitioned into a trust in reaching  the center as a place of holding space.  It deepened with perspective and materialized in the facets of realization that now sparkled with variety by the time the walk came to a close. At the end what was true in the beginning  remained and what accompanied it was an honest evaluation of its full value.

A suggestion to walk with:

How is your beginning more realized at the end?

Just One More Step

TLS 365 Experience #275
November 30, 2017

Advice from long ago when I thought I was finished or had enough of something, was to take one more step. Thoughts of not being good enough surfaced at times and perfection at other times, though its larger message was much deeper than my small thoughts of the time.  Sorting out a problem one day, the labyrinth offered the opportunity to get up and away from the issue and clear the mind.

The peace of the walk was interrupted by thoughts that took me back to earlier days and the message of taking one more step surfaced. Remembering I was on a walk of peace and clarity, I began to release thoughts from my mind in order to have the clarity to focus on the problem at hand. As thoughts continued to surface, determination became the focus to continue the walk. The more thoughts arose, the more I walked until I stopped in the center and sat down to listen. Finally achieving the quiet and calm, I relaxed and felt peaceful again and soon after rose to complete the walk in the return steps. In those steps a realization of how determination was what drove the next step. Determination was indeed the answer to the problem at hand and taking one more step had helped to understand this.

A  greater understanding revealed itself however and in taking one more step showed a perspective that would not have been seen had I not. That further step provided a wonderful moment to evaluate efforts and really understand satisfaction. It also offered a curiosity; what if when I had the problem, I just took the next step and considered what the solution might be… what might I have truly realized in the walk of solution?

Thinking Twice

TLS 365 Experience #186
September 2, 2017

It is interesting to notice my notice.

As I walk into the labyrinth there is an opportunity to become aware of what is present on my mind and I am surprised at how much is often there. With each step forward another thought or idea presents itself for consideration, clarity or clearing. As the turns increase and more time is spent, those thoughts tend to come less quickly as if the whole of my brain was easing and moving not calmer, just in a more relaxed way. In the center there isn’t much thinking, just notice being more in a full body listening mode.

In walking out of the center, the thinking returns reflectively. What is different in this thinking is in how I summon an idea to ponder and in the beginning thoughts just pop up. There is an effortless flow about the return walk, where a question of the mind is now answered with ease.

As I come to the end of the labyrinth, where thought is concerned I am of two minds it seems and in one, it thinks for me and the other I think for it. As I surrender thought, I am interestingly more in control than before.

Winding and Unwinding

TLS 365 Experience #140
July 18, 2017

When you don’t know what to say, walk on it… somehow the spiraling inward and the cross brain transitions unwind the mind so that what was confusing can become clear. When lost in thought, the labyrinth takes on the erratic nature of it all and soothes a gentleness so that finding one’s self is the discovery in the center or at the end.

I used to simply walk the labyrinth or finger walk a smaller instrument to find a sense of grounding and centering, though of late the clarity becomes about the greater giving and contribution that we can make. When we move beyond the problem of thinking the steps on the labyrinth become about solutions and action. As we evolve, the labyrinth continues to provide another layer and a new path.

No matter where you begin, in the end you will always find an outcome more significant and useful in the un winding walk that winds it all together again more purposefully.

Observations of Childhood

TLS 365 Experience #99
June 7, 2017

Every time I take a class of students out onto the labyrinth, something magical occurs.
I share the experience with adults often, though when children come to the labyrinth there concerns really get to the heart of the matter and their understanding evolves quickly. It seems as if the labyrinth is a natural resource for a child and what comes out of them is a sense of creativity and understanding that has a refreshing honesty to it.

I think when adults walk the labyrinth they discover that sense of childhood clarity again and relate to what is true. With a lifetime of carrying things, it just takes us a bit longer to set it all down. When we do, we are rewarded with this turning of ourselves it seems into something that sits at the heart of our being. That is when we seem most magical.
