Shaping your Path

Day 141: May 21
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Three shapes of one pathIn a group of women yesterday, the dialogue following the walk included many of the trials and lessons that individuals were currently in process with. There was a sense of needing to fix the situation, as if the place they were in had no value. Between the over analysis and the curious expectancy of the group, I gave each a piece of paper and asked them to draw a shape that represented their circumstance and then asked them to walk again taking in consideration the shape they had chosen. After the walk, interesting dialogue came about in the way of what was balanced, what cycled and found its end a new beginning and taking notice of different angles and perspectives. Focusing on the shapes seemed to bring out the characteristics of their situation and an interesting matching characteristic of the shapes. This awareness provided an opportunity to see differently and discover that the blessing of the problem with a greater focus on solution.

For a change of perspective to what works, what’s good and what is right; celebrating the walk with acceptance of the shape you are in can make a difference in your steps and in your outcome. This design came to mind afterwards illustrating that point and remind us in our walk that moving through what we think is a problem can often show us the answer. The shapes are different colors to highlight their features and in walking through, it might at first seem confusing to step over into another shape or color, though staying on the one path will take you past confusion and into clarity.

On this 141st day…
Choose a shape to go along with a question and discover what shape you are in by following your path to conclusion and focusing on the characteristics of what you can appreciate.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization

May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

The Ground Hog’s Dilemma

Day 33: February 2
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Love

On this second day of love focus, the groundhog makes its whimsical reminders of the seasonal shifts ahead by either showing up eager to take on what is ahead and offers a warm reception or burrowing deep, not yet ready to forge ahead into the newness of the year.  Walking steadily grounded on the path today, this was an interesting focus about honestly realizing where readiness prevailed and where it did not.

The few turns where focus drifted led to a confused step on the pathway ahead into an unplanned direction and repeating of a few circuits. In what came to mind, it was clear there was hesitation and an unreadiness to pursue what was ahead. It was also an awareness where not a lot of love prevailed either.  Reaching the other side in a long walk, there was a full and ready charge to take action and interestingly enough, a great value had been established in seeing what was not ready and understanding why. If based on this walk as a reference, the Groundhog may or may not have seen his shadow based on what was confused and unclear. Though where love made an appearance, honesty and clarity were the clear and positive messages for forging ahead.

This labyrinth design came out of the idea of readiness, the love of light hearted fun and the outer and inner core of now or perhaps later when things are more aligned.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this second day…
Walk with honest notice of what comes up ready and how what you love shows up.

February’s Focus

As it is the second month of the year, enjoy two opportunities… discovery and realization.

  1. Discover your Love capacity:
This month’s 28 days will focus on how we are loving the moments we are creating. Learning to be “in love” with our focus, it expands who we are beyond the partnered relational aspects and into the focus of loving what we offer the world, who we are in community, relating at a higher level to everything and everyone; and most significantly,  elevating the relationship we have with ourselves. Prepare for a wonderful experience of exercising the power of love with the freedom of honesty to realize a greater look at possibilities and potential n a delightful way. Discover how capable you are!

2. Realize synchronous evidence:
Inspired by the variety of heart shaped labyrinths, this month capture your experiences with images of the heart. Be on the look out for where the synchronicity of the moments where your heart is in focus and then look around to see where you can find the shape of a heart in symbol. Your awareness will expand and you just might be surprised to find that when we look with an open heart, we can find it in reference near by. It does require a bit of imagination, though the findings are wonderfully worth it. Share all the heart shaped labyrinth images you find with images, links or comments and I will be happy to post the images and moments.
Care to Share and Share to Care!

Weighted Steps

TLS 365 Experience #181
Aug. 28, 2017

smooth stones for carrying on the labyrinthUsing the labyrinth to demonstrate the value of simplicity with clients and groups, it is a very effective and experiential way to both present and activate this idea simultaneously.

Confusion comes up when our focus is distracted from our purpose, and while this can be applied to a larger life message, my intent is for easy understanding. Walking the path brings us to the moments of where we are, what is in front of us and consideration for what is now behind.   Creating this walk in many ways for approaching similar and relative threads, this one has a tangible idea of giving each a container to put the things that come up on the path and stick with us, as we move forward.  Placing small stones along the path represent the elements we notice, pick up and carry.

In reaching our center point in the walk, the middle serves as a turning point to consider the use, practicality and basic logic of the things collected and the true weight of their significance or necessity as we walk out and into new experiences.

A Decision for Indecision

TLS 365 Experience #145
July 23, 2017

It was a day of indecision where chaos lay claim. After too many coincidental experiences of inefficiency, I surrendered to the whirlwind style of the day and what it held. Where my thoughts wanted to sort it all out on the labyrinth later on, every step became a beleagured indenture.

I found it wise to stop and become still as the currents of  the day continued to carry on and in that moment I surrendered my thoughts, I surrendered any need to understand and I just began walking in the way I wanted to.

Without the cacophony, natural function and order returned, the day disappeared along with any need to know or figure it out. The only decision that worked for me in this day of indecision was to stop being a part of it, and in this my steps will always take me in the direction I want to go.

Winding and Unwinding

TLS 365 Experience #140
July 18, 2017

When you don’t know what to say, walk on it… somehow the spiraling inward and the cross brain transitions unwind the mind so that what was confusing can become clear. When lost in thought, the labyrinth takes on the erratic nature of it all and soothes a gentleness so that finding one’s self is the discovery in the center or at the end.

I used to simply walk the labyrinth or finger walk a smaller instrument to find a sense of grounding and centering, though of late the clarity becomes about the greater giving and contribution that we can make. When we move beyond the problem of thinking the steps on the labyrinth become about solutions and action. As we evolve, the labyrinth continues to provide another layer and a new path.

No matter where you begin, in the end you will always find an outcome more significant and useful in the un winding walk that winds it all together again more purposefully.

A Long Walk

TLS 365 Experience #111
June 19, 2017

The Long Walk It seemed like such a long walk.
I was tired and here to walk the labyrinth with a friend. She asked if I would come with and where I had not walked a labyrinth before, I humored her and came along even though all parts of me longed to be elsewhere.

As I stood by contemplating my turn and waiting for the opening, it seemed like a really long walk that didn’t seem to end anywhere. As my turn came I joined in and stepped into this interesting circle. I looked down mostly to keep my balance and make sure my feet knew where to step and where not too. It became easier when I realized the only thing we had to do was follow the path.  I relaxed and enjoyed the outdoors and soon found my movement lighter and flowing and before long I had reached the center. Not long at all.

Years later I reflect back on that first long walk and my initial interpretation. Where I was resistance, the labyrinth’s turns and patterns relaxed and invited. What seemed so long so many years ago now seems so short… Am I done already?

Confusion Can Be a Choice

TLS 365 Experience #95
June 3, 2017

Labyrinth at Westlake

The Labyrinth at Westlake could use some love and tender care.

Set in the small garden adjacent to the hospital, where the grounds are cared for in great consideration, most are unaware of the missing stones and incompleteness of the labyrinth in its current state. To walk it currently is to invite confusion to those aware, yet also of karmic note is the metaphor that may speak of the care status of this small hospital as well.

Offering to help and make the small adjustments was not welcomed by the administration, though the awareness and education have been offered and passed on. I am reminded that while we have a desire to champion the great fix and pave the way for others; there is an order to every disorder and always a great education in that.

Today, I walked away from the confusion and found a new open, inviting and welcome new path.

Questions Answered

TLS 365 Experience #92
May 31, 2017

I’ve got questions and I know the labyrinth has answers.

In walking, what I really know is that I do have answers.

The walk allows me the time to unwind my mind enough to relax all the confusion that I put there to come to the point where the answer was positioned all along. I may pick it up in the middle, and move to complete my walk, I know it the acceptance seems to take about as long to come as the confusion took to leave.

When I walk out where I began, I notice that the answer indeed is sitting right next to the question, though without becoming the question and the confusion, would I have really accepted the answer?
