Triple “E” Effect

Day 66: March 7
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Discover

The grace of the Euler spiral is in its elegant lines that begin with zero curvature at the origin and then arch outward to equalize the spirals diameter in proportion to its length. It defines the linear relationship between curvature and arc length. Leonhard Euler was a Swiss German mathematician, physicist, astronomer, logician and engineer. Accomplished on many levels he is revered as a leading mathematician of the 18th century and is the only mathematician to have two numbers named after him. The elegance of this spiral was formed to innovate the concept of elasticity and to mathematics. Euler’s spiral serves as the basis for Cornu’s spiral and serves as a solution to the practical purposes of a variety of operational elements, such as those related to Gamma, Gauss Error and Hypergeometric functions.  It’s value lays in its elegant design and variable application.  Mathematicians, artists and theorists agree, it is a beautiful visual element with great purpose.

In repeating its simple structure, it can become more, as in the depiction of this six petaled connection using three Euler spirals to inspire nature’s symmetry in floral petals appreciating the long arc and central connection that naturally apply form and function. It is in the message of this spiral and its perspective from the origin point of to the curvature developed on the way to its destination that reminds us of  more efficient ways to go from our own point A to point B. Today was such a walk in removing the unnecessary and staying the course of the curve to a more effective outcome. The practicality of the labyrinth is marvelous when we consider its natural elemental design.

It is an ease for complication and an inspiring triple treat in a design that applies what is Effective, Efficient and Elegant in its purpose.

March’s Focus

As it is now the third month of the year and our last month of growing awareness before we delve into the ways of education, allow this month be one that creates both the light hearted discovery and profound realization. How can you create more awareness with the labyrinth personally or in the ways you share with others? Where do you notice a spiral effect that takes you to the point or away from it? Be on the lookout for the spiraling nature this month.

  1. Realize
In the 31 Days this month offers, become aware of the daily realizations that you create and discover. Walking daily creates compound interest in what you look forward to and discover each day. Let March become your month of expanded capacity as you walk to make each day and adventure in exploration of what more you can explore. Seek to spiral into new and inspiring realization and whether it is rich and profound or light hearted and amusing… be open, walk with intention and you are bound to come away larger.

2. Surprise
One can realize and find much in the depth of understanding that awareness offers us, though when we look forward to realization of that depth and awareness, it can inspire new ways of appreciation and discovery in both our  process and capabilities as we are constantly growing, no matter what age. Invite the element of  surprise into what you realize as it can lift what you discover into seeing a bit more than before.  Notice the spiral effect of how you move from realize to surprise and make discovery more significant and true.

Heart In Connection

Day 42: February 11
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Love

Today an early morning talk with middle school aged group of students didn’t go as well as planned, not bad, just not the honest emergence of conversation that typically would reach out and connected that was more true and useful. There was a lot of unsurity as to why there was a reserve, though a knowing that sometimes the truth finds its communication in time or metaphor that will find its way out in its own time.

Having time in the day, a hike in the red rocks allowed for a view of the labyrinth from far above and looking down. Today the message of curiosity was not found in the initial physical body of walking the circles, instead from a high perch of climbing above. It allowed for the creativity of a finger walk, drawing circles in the air tracing the labyrinth below , which provided a more elevated perspective. The personal message was to walk on and discover something new.

In sync with a different project,  new pathways made sense. Walking the Earth brought answers that connected and expressed themselves in a natural way that the earlier morning talk had not. Points of clarity and a formation of a systematic approach came to mind and in short order a more direct, honest and useful dialogue found its way from heart to head beneficially. Next week’s talk will benefit from this week’s questions, walk and natural sense of getting to the heart of the matter.

The red rocks will be left satisfied in the appreciation that rose throughout the discoveries and footsteps of connection that brought body to Earth and heart with soul. The honest voice of the heart rose in nature and as if to make its declaration, a heart drawn into the rock showed up with the reminder to put what matters into the heart for a more natural result. And so I did…

February’s Focus

As it is the second month of the year, enjoy two opportunities… discovery and realization.

  1. Discover your Love capacity:
This month’s 28 days will focus on how we are loving the moments we are creating. Learning to be “in love” with our focus, it expands who we are beyond the partnered relational aspects and into the focus of loving what we offer the world, who we are in community, relating at a higher level to everything and everyone; and most significantly,  elevating the relationship we have with ourselves. Prepare for a wonderful experience of exercising the power of love with the freedom of honesty to realize a greater look at possibilities and potential n a delightful way. Discover how capable you are!

2. Realize synchronous evidence:
Inspired by the variety of heart shaped labyrinths, this month capture your experiences with images of the heart. Be on the look out for where the synchronicity of the moments where your heart is in focus and then look around to see where you can find the shape of a heart in symbol. Your awareness will expand and you just might be surprised to find that when we look with an open heart, we can find it in reference near by. It does require a bit of imagination, though the findings are wonderfully worth it. Share all the heart shaped labyrinth images you find with images, links or comments and I will be happy to post the images and moments.
Care to Share and Share to Care!

Honest Discoveries

Day 8: January 8
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

The Huntridge Park LabyrinthA whole new perspective was appreciated today in the walk of a labyrinth I have not visited in about a year. Being an unusually warm day, the park that is usually vacant was an eye opener to realize either a new use as a place for the homeless or one I had not known before. There were only about 20 individuals and some were clustered in groups, though each found a welcome refuge in the park. As I walked the labyrinth a few discoursed political and conspiratorial without concern of my presence, which served to remind me that I had ventured into their territory. Their plight couldn’t help become part of my walk and as I noted how the park had been updated and somewhat cared for since my last visit, it seemed only natural for those seeking a haven to perhaps feel the extra care as well.

There is an overly large center in the middle of the labyrinth, where a singular tree branches out as an expanse of shelter and coverage where in the intensity of the summer heat, it might provide some needed relief. Thoughts of this relief occurred as I arrived at the center of my walk and as I meandered around the large open space, I noticed a car that had been sitting for some time parked next to mine. A woman and man emerged with bags and set up a line of these that stretched about 20 feet and contained clothing, shoes, totes and items for warmth. Slowly the park’s population took notice and migrated over to investigate and procure what might satisfy a need. I suddenly realized I had bags of collected coats to donate in the trunk of my car that I might have driven away with and not remembered until later.  An honest and grateful moment awakened me as to good intentions that were not yet carried out.

As my walk completed and I met the couple, the discovery of their project of community care fit the criteria for another project I had been involved with that made a great collaboration. When I looked back at the labyrinth, my walk must have sparked curiosity as there were now park occupants walking. It began as a simple walk and became a day of greater appreciation for the homeless community, personal realizations and new connections.

Exercising Variety

TLS 365 Experience #283
December 7, 2017

Coming out to find some air, the labyrinth in the garden seemed to invite some blood circulation with a walk. Rubbing palms together and pulling the scarf around my neck, I enjoyed the cool snap of crisp air as I entered. Thinking of it as an exercise, pumping arms and marching steps became part of the movement.

As I was getting into the movement, another joined me on the labyrinth. I had a moment of hesitation as it seemed a private experience and interruptive of another’s quiet time. Just as I was about to surrender my large movements, the other woman did the same arm circles and called out, “Great idea!”.  As we both continued to exercise the labyrinth, we were joined by others who had been watching from inside and soon we had to watch out in our thrusting of arms and legs, not to make a harmful connection.

It became a cheering experience of movement and amusing connection that invigorated all of us. It was also a chance to realize a different experience of the labyrinth, rather than the quiet mindful walks I have known. Realization on the labyrinth comes in many forms and today I moved myself in a variety of ways.

Journey to the Center of Truth

TLS 365 Experience #269
November 24, 2017

Either too busy, tired, pain, distracted or having a variety of items pop up to take off course what I think I cannot do, the labyrinth has taught a different perspective. Years ago when thoughts were surrounded by lack in my life, the labyrinth brought abundance as it showed what was there.

When a spouse departed, the feeling of isolation and aloneness led to long walks and again to the path of paths. On the labyrinth, I was again reminded of what I had in friends, family, acquaintances, and with love of purpose, people and of life; I was never alone.

At a time when meeting failure with failure seemed to have become a trend, I sketched and in those drawings came the shape of the labyrinth that always held truth that was always available. The reality of failure was in the finding of another way.

The labyrinth design is one to remind, rediscover and reacquaint ourselves with ourselves to discover our energy source at the center of it all, our truth.

Candles of Commitment

TLS 365 Experience #174
Aug. 21, 2017

365 Club Annual Gathering Welcome Walk 2015 IndianaLeading the former 365 Club Welcome Walk at the Gathering one year, I asked each participant to take a candle off the table that resembled the size of their ability to commit. It allowed each to be honest with themselves and to consider a healthy perspective about what they wanted to achieve and the time they wished to devote to the daily experience they wished to keep.

It helped because it wasn’t a measurement of competition, rather a dedication to what each wanted to accomplish in being a part. Some candles were tall, others were thick and the variety helped all to find the right fit for their commitment. Like the stories that were shared when we were independently connected online and in email, lighting the candles off of each other reminded how the flame of any good intention continues and as we completed the experience, the sharing confirmed a call for what our existence was all about.

Annually we can dedicate, connect and confirm, though the message was clear, keeping the light alive was up to the sharing from one to another.

Walking with Our Fathers

TLS 365 Experience #110
June 18, 2017
Labyrinth HandThe labyrinth is often called a feminine instrument as it relates to the lunar calendar and the Earth energies, which we know as Mother Earth. It may be what draws so many more women to the labyrinth than men, however it is an invitation always for everyone.

On this day that celebrates the father, the labyrinth is a wonderful tool to invite an honest reflection for father’s worldwide. As the labyrinth can take a point and spiral it inward, giving us different perspective directions to turn into; bringing in the wealth that father’s offer can be a blessing for humanity as we integrate a walk with that reality on this day.

What if on this day, we reflected on the way a father matters, the connection that children of all ages crave with their father and the one that a father really desires with his children. What if in each step we take, we all realize a step we can make to move closer to the father we have known and better wanted to know? What if we understood what it is that they wish? Consider the ways in which we are touched in heart, a physical hug, a pat, or holding a hand. Consider the ways in which we communicate in listening well, speaking what’s true and holding compassion.

May your walk of fathers, be one that changes your world.

The Essential Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #57
April 26, 2017

In researching information for my book on labyrinths, I needed to address what made the symbol so enduring, so fascinating, throughout thousands, if not tens of thousands of years of human experience.

To me, the labyrinth touches on something essential to humankind; a connection with a spiritual, healing power that has been a deep-seated metaphor as long as there have been humans who have recognized illness in a wide variety of ways, and found healing potential in community support.

It is a fundamental longing for ‘health’ and ‘balance’ that requires sharing and participation.

The Labyrinth in Oneness

TLS 365 Experience #18
March 18, 2017

“Walking home to country is a connection our people have always had with Mother Earth. Our culture is defined by the closeness of family circles and staying connected to the people within it. The labyrinth invites and welcomes people to walk the path together – it calls them to the land in oneness.”                Aunty Ali Golding, Wisdom Keeper

Day Ten… Passion for Purpose

12DaysOfLabyrinthsPlay along in December, any 12 days or just make it last all month. Today’s post moves beyond the simple preparations into the action of the game itself. Read The Game and How to Play in the link below to follow along. Then send along comments of your experience.
The Game and How to Play
Preparations…12 Things that Matter
Preparations…12 Gifts, Talents or Abilities
Preparations…12 People of Influence
Day 1  l  Day 2 l Day 3 l Day 4 l Day 5 l Day 6
Day 7 l Day 8 l Day 9

On the tenth day of Labyrinths… I moved with Passion, mindful of a developing new path and the art of allowing it to unfold with purpose, grace and humble prosperity. Labyrinths unfolded like a resplendent repository of riches from my travels as I brought out a selection of wooden finger labyrinths and two canvas labyrinths to host a workshop.

IMG_4582I had planned to be on the West Coast looking after and visiting my Mom while sharing a few opportunities. A car accident short circuited many of my plans and turned my intentions around to realize a reflective period to foster self care and realize value. For the past seven weeks I have managed to allow a natural course to chart itself and while it sometimes felt as if it needed my input, when I remembered to step back, I was rewarded with a better answer than I might have conceived otherwise.

IMG_4584The workshop today was a manifestation of an easy conversation that filled a need on many levels. I was delighted at the opportunity to be working again, although what I do is hard to consider work, I would call it being purposeful and contributing again. Though without regular purpose,  I began to feel fidgety so I found a circle nearby to practice Reiki energetics with and in discovering that they wanted to create a day of vision boards, I smiled as I recall a blog post where I shared my innovative idea for vision boarding and labyrinths.

The Director loved the idea and so I brought a 20 foot classical canvas design made for the Hope Fest of 911 at the ten year anniversary. It had become a type of “graffiti” labyrinth that served to live on in hope, harmony and happiness for the life beyond. I have used it for several unique workshops and session walks. The small canvas petite Chartres design accompanied this workshop as well.

IMG_4587Each individual had just come from the healing circle so they were full of the love that accompanies such a gathering and into the workshop they carried themselves ready to dive into their vision. Explaining the labyrinths was a relatively easy and flowing process with each point similarly stretching a point and coming around to suggest ideas and helpful aids that might allow each to move into their walk with mission in mind.

IMG_4592An idea I had shared earlier this year was to place a plastic board over a vision board and inscribe a labyrinth on the plastic. On the earlier one, I had cut through the plastic board to forge the path. That design was back in the Midwest so I purchased a clear shower liner and with heavy marker outlined the design of a labyrinth on several large 20″ squares. When the vision boards were complete, the light plastic was placed on top the vision board so that each could activate their vision.

IMG_4591I shared how to draw a simple seed pattern, so that each might draw out their own on plastic and use them regularly to stimulate their vision. It was a rich sharing and a purposeful day filled with the creative passion that drives my purpose.

On this day of being in the passion with the purpose I thought of the inspiration of a new friend I met this year. She came along at a time that really made a difference for both of us. I offered her a service she sought, shared with joy and passion that she aligned with and since that time we have held that similar interest and love.

IMG_4590It reminds me that when we are passionate, we find purpose and in knowing each of these,  we step into the love of feeling connected. When we are fortunate to meet and appreciate others with similar personas and paths, we understand more of purpose with passion and we are grateful.

This was such a day that took me by the hand, appreciated the gifts that materialized, felt the passion and knew the purpose.
