On the Spot

Day 24

January 24, 2019
Month of Beginnings
Quarter of Consciousness
Let’s Walk the World, a focus of contribution

  1. For Your Walk:
What if you had to create a labyrinth on the spot, what would you use, how would you design it and why a specific design? Walk your original design into the walk of today.
  2. For Your Experience:
Notice the elements you added to your experience, what did you walk away with?
  3. Share:   Share your message
When we collectively offer the ways to begin, someone sees a new idea, thought or experience to enjoy. Today, share images, art, ideas, designs, tips, facilitations, building strategies, ideas from your book, poems, teachings, etc.

Today’s Experience:

image of labyrinth design used in colorsHaving an opportunity to present a labyrinth on the fly to a group, the question that arose became about the materials to develop it with quickly. Finding what was available in a pile of cloth material, the path began to form as the idea for it’s design was imagined. Being able to tear it into lengths and tie them together formed a continuous strand. Once the length of material was connected, the path was laid out with ease  in just a few minutes.  The adjustment and alignment took an extra 10 minutes before the walk began.

With questions from the group that had already been put into place before the group took a short break, the design came together in what seemed an effortless experience. Everything moved into place in the right way at the right time. What was interesting was how the process we used in creation to completion seemed to have been adopted in the discussion that followed quite naturally.

Some times the labyrinth sets the tone and other times it just allows us to realize what we already know and organize it in a way that we can understand.

The Question of How

Day 2

January 2, 2019
Month of Beginnings
Quarter of Consciousness
Let’s Walk the World, a focus of contribution

  1. For Today’s Walk:
How do you begin a labyrinth, is it the same for all or are there different ways and different days?
  2. For Today’s  Experience:
How is the ways you begin the labyrinth similar to the way you begin anything. Consider your personal experiences, professional events, labyrinth offerings.
  3. Share Today:   Share your message
When we collectively offer the ways to begin, someone sees a new idea, thought or experience to enjoy. Today, share images, art, ideas, designs, tips, facilitations, building strategies, ideas from your book, poems, teachings, etc.

Today’s Experience:

How ?
The question of how is one that can be confusing as there are infinite ways to answer the how. How to begin? For me, it is a different experience fitting the particular labyrinth. If it is a design, I might use beads or a device I created to separate the circuits and openings. I might draw it out on paper or lay it out in rope. I also might just use whatever happens to be handy. I also might sculpt or paint an image too. With a background in technology and design, software programs aid the drawing of lines, circles and shapes of creation too.

If it is a walk, it might depend upon what type of walk. With a finger walk, getting comfortable to be loose and experience is a must. If it is a physical walk, sometimes just walking in and letting the experience occur is important and sometimes some consideration of a question arises. What is common in all, is that there is always a beginning to everyday, so there is always a labyrinth walk to participate in some how, some where at some point in the day.

The IN of Inspiration

Day 341  December 7
In The Year of Honest Living
In The Quarter of: Contribution
In The Month of: Honest Gifts

Segment One: Inspiration
Days 341-346

The In of Inspiration

image of a star labyrinth for the second segment of InspirationTo be inspired is to touch base with what is within. In our year long adventure of gifts in the form of abilities, talents, skills and capacities, each of them come from within. When we create opportunities to become aware of them, learn more about them and apply them to realize the levels of learning are continual learning. What we share from that process has evolved to become useful to others, and all from a seed planted within.

In is a place of containment. It holds cookies in a jar as effortlessly as it holds the gifts of humanity within humans. In is an enormous place that is without measure and it is a place we go to when seeking comfort, solace or truth. This place of in is a great keeper of many things. It acts like a directional signal and a definition of where things come from. In makes more valuable the invaluable, in its addition and detracts the frequency in infrequent degree.

Stepping from the border into the labyrinth, we are within. In this year of at least 365 within’s, it has show itself to be a vast and varied place of exploration, creation, acceptance and discovery to name a few of the findings that have raised a curious flow of feeling to follow.

The place within has expanded and marvelously, there is always room for more. The inspiration each month came from a desire to explore honest living, and in doing so, the within will always be a reminder that we are never without.

Daily Insights of this 341st day…
As you step into the labyrinth today, notice how many other ways you are in or within during the walk or in your life experience.

Global Giving

Day 340  December 6
In The Year of Honest Living
In The Quarter of: Contribution
In The Month of: Honest Gifts

Segment One: Giving
Days 335-341

Global Giving

image of star labyrinth for Global GivingOne may think that giving to others is giving globally as it is outside of ourselves, though there is a mindset that goes with giving globally that is consistent in a way that giving to others does not encompass. To realize the fullness of our gifts, exploring the ways we already focus on giving in a global fashion and to open to a larger appreciation expands our considerations.

The labyrinth is a good example of giving globally as its purpose in creation is to be of service. It is open and non discriminatory, it is radically accepting of all. It is a local community tool. Reaching a global community might be to design an online interface with its image in the background to finger walk. Connecting a particular labyrinth to a grid of conscious contribution around the world may be yet another way and by offering prayers, wishes and well being to others in the world, it becomes a tool to branch out globally wherever the need or desire is called for.

In our own journeys, to consider all is to consider ourselves and any we care for. By opening ourselves in the giving way for the good of all, we are always considered in that good as well as others we may never know personally. It is our higher consciousness to consider the acts we participate in and give to as for a greater global good.

In our armchair travels this summer, each labyrinth we explored in the world could be enjoyed in the sharing of it for all in the world who joined us. It was a global giving.

Daily Insights of this 340th day…
Consider the greater good that you can impart in each step in some way with global consciousness in mind.

Darkness

Day 295  October 22
In The Year of Honest Living
In The Quarter of: Contribution
In The Month of: Message, Metaphor and Magic

image of a labyrinth in the dark by moonlit sky with metaphor of darkness

Topic: Darkness

The essentiality of darkness proves its value everyday of our lives by being present to renew ourselves in it over and over again.

The  Message:

The ominous nothingness is often confused for darkness. The duality of light and dark has a singular purpose, where each provides a portion of what brings the oneness. Darkness is the place that absorbs and holds the light and the space of creation, where seeds are planted, babies mature in womb and sleep restores our condition. In a visual world, the unaccustomed darkness offers the unknown and to the cautious, the unsure. Light is not absent, its energy is absorbed for the great night work that is birthed in the light of day. Light reflects and white light absorbs little of the light it shines on all else. It is little wonder then, that darkness is so necessary for the balance of energy and the harmony of two resources for one purpose.

The Magic:

Darkness may seem eerie or magical, yet it invites our walk on the labyrinth to see more by not seeing. Our candlelight and moonlit experiences offer a quiet retraction to listen a little deeper. Aware of the subtle nuances we can appreciate what is unknown as a growing experience in walking away with a little more that becomes known for having walked. Darkness is where we trust in a great way that it is ok to sleep and refresh.

Daily Insights : On this 295th day…
Where in your walk do you absorb the most, in the knowing of light or the unknowing darkness?

The Labyrinth of Egypt

Day 153:  June 2
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Exploration

The labyrinth of Egypt

In our June beginnings of exploration and discovery, we travel to Egypt and the Hawara Pyramid. Like our own journey of discovery, we can often find something when we begin a course of discovery and while it might not be what we expected, it can lead to something more meaningful or significant when we keep looking. Such was the case of the Hawara Pyramid in 1888 when W.M.Finders Petrie began an excavation of the pyramid, and gained permit in 1911 to begin work on excavating the area that was to contain an ancient labyrinth said to have been built in the 1st Century.

Evidence was found of its creation from a Greek geographer of the time named Strabo. Herodotus, a Greek historian also left accounts detailing the extreme prominence and importance of this labyrinth, surpassing the importance of the pyramids themselves.

Later geologists and excavations revealed a city beneath the pyramid. The description Strabo and Herodotus gave of the labyrinth had been accurate and findings included it to be the size of 80 football fields with two levels and 12 palaces. The space held over 3,000 chambers. The labyrinth’s significance had risen to a major archeological find that is still in the process of negotiation with the Egyptian government and further excavation. The image depicts the structure of the labyrinth base with outer lying intricacies and an inner space for discovery. While the completeness is not ready for our investigation as enthusiasts, it is a world discovery that is significant enough to include in our month long focus.

On this 153rd day…
Today explore a little farther than you originally intended, discover what lays beyond.

Welcome May

Day 121: May 1
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Celebration confetti and balloons rising from the labyrinthIn this year of living honestly we look at the ways we can evolve our understanding of ourselves, our purpose with the labyrinth and our connection to others in the way we share it or comprehend larger meanings. We focus on quarterly concepts such as the awareness we’ve appreciated in the first and the concept of education for ourselves and the way we use the labyrinth with others in these three months. Our focus changes to add ways to appreciate that education differently and while we used the power of amusement to widen our focus, this month’s exploration focuses on the idea of celebration.

Life is a gift to celebrate daily. Life also offers us adversity and many of our former lessons have focused on overcoming and surviving that time for appreciating the celebrations becomes the thing we do for special occasions. Living the idea of celebration through appreciation and realization is an opportunity in the next 30 days to walk differently, share differently and care differently in the month of  May. Look forward to sharing innovations and creations, sharing in our mid month dialogues and taking steps to create a celebratory experience in this month.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization
May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!  See Below
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

Walk of Darkness Enlightened

TLS 365 Experience #288
December 13, 2017

In curious explorations, the midnight hour is a time of perceived stillness.  The wee hours provide a depth of soul to awaken in the walk of the shadows and realize in the dark hours what grows  in opportunities that will shortly birth into the light. It is not a time of stillness, but one of great activity.

The walk is a listening of what is growing.
The listening hears the movement of flowing.
The movement is subtle evolving knowing.

It is a great and wonderful darkness to walk with as a part of the silent creations stirring.
In the wee hours.

Labyrinth of Joy

TLS 365 Experience #219
October 5, 2017

Labyrinth of Joy 2007LATYears ago, I found the small town of Joy.   On a trip that stopped at many labyrinths along the way, it was fascinating to learn the how and why of each creation, which became a later writings shared. The town of Joy was hard to resist in name, and only about 25 minutes away, so inquisitively I found myself on the Road to Joy.

Talking to a few in the community, they had never heard of what a labyrinth was and thought I was some kind of foreigner. Indeed I was and appreciated what they did have. With not enough time to gather interest, a growing thought and parting gift idea emerged. Perhaps one day, a trip back to invest a little more time, and maybe drop a little money in the Bank of Joy too:)

Finding Joy Park at the edge of town, with a great overhanging oak tree shading the farthest corner was the perfect spot. Being that it was fall, raking up a pile of leaves was easy and soon a small labyrinth formed under the tree. The birdseed pouch in the trunk was poured to form a line on top of the leaves and in the center. Drawing the word JOY into the center was the completion.  Now the birds could enjoy The Little Labyrinth of Joy, the leaves would fly away but a marker and imprint of it had been declared and the community was gifted silent wishes for joyful abundance.
