Driving the Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #192
September 8, 2017

Wanting to find two labyrinths in a town I was passing through, I had the addresses and a map to navigate. The first road was on a one way street. This took several circumnavigational tours down the opposite street and back again until finding the opening was farther down than indicated to cross over.

The next direction met construction rerouting, which looped up, over and back again to drive up another street and over. The third direction dead ended and so a turning around was necessary and the drive back brought us to where it seemed we began. Once the navigational labyrinth had been completed, there was the finding of the outdoor labyrinth on hospital property. After several negotiations, corridors, cut throughs and turn arounds, the small garden setting with the labyrinth was a happy discovery.

Going to the second labyrinth was a route more enhanced by construction changes and lane closures and after the fifth turn around we realized that we had been driving the labyrinth longer than we did in discovering and walking it.

A Decision for Indecision

TLS 365 Experience #145
July 23, 2017

It was a day of indecision where chaos lay claim. After too many coincidental experiences of inefficiency, I surrendered to the whirlwind style of the day and what it held. Where my thoughts wanted to sort it all out on the labyrinth later on, every step became a beleagured indenture.

I found it wise to stop and become still as the currents of  the day continued to carry on and in that moment I surrendered my thoughts, I surrendered any need to understand and I just began walking in the way I wanted to.

Without the cacophony, natural function and order returned, the day disappeared along with any need to know or figure it out. The only decision that worked for me in this day of indecision was to stop being a part of it, and in this my steps will always take me in the direction I want to go.

A Trip of Self Education

TLS 365 Experience #116
June 24, 2017

I educate myself with the labyrinth every time I use it. Whether I am walking on a designed path, drawing it out, using the finger labyrinth or doodling designs, I learn something.

It can be just the changing of direction that makes me stop and think. It can be in reaching a final point only to realize the destination is in returning to the next beginning. It can also be from the whole experience of it.

I see myself in a whole new way after a trip through the labyrinth.

Full Circle

TLS 365 Experience #104
June 12, 2017

I had walked the labyrinth for years independently enjoying my experience before sharing it with others. I know what I felt, though like many researched, read and discovered the many nuances and fascinating perspectives over time. Somehow each little bit of information made the experience that much more significant and it seemed like this pattern held both simplicity and complexity.

When I was asked to share the experience, it was for a change of seasons and a change of direction. Somehow I just knew what I would share as we are always about change on the labyrinth, and always moving in new directions.  I assembled quotes of so many that had walked before with perspectives of each walk and very simply asked each to embrace the change each felt from path to path and start to finish. The nervousness disappeared when I invited each to the experience as I didn’t need to do anything but allow each to walk their way and discover as I had.

Our talk that followed was full of rich and appreciable stories and sharing. I found it an incredible honor to share what I deeply related to and discover some of the same messages I had experienced over time being repeated in this circle of individuals. I realized this is what it meant to come full circle… on this circle of steps.

Just Different

TLS 365 Experience #42
April 11, 2017

I came upon an interesting path.

Located at the front of the church, it was far enough away from the busy street, though instead of being private and secluded in the back or side, it was right out in front. Thirteen yews encircled it to create a secluded environment, and it was as if the yews served as a large arm of the church protecting this sacred space. Interesting!

The path turned right at the beginning, which was different and reminded me of what a right-handed society we truly live in. The path was also elevated, leaving the borders at ground level…growing more curious.

A unique design, and though it met all the labyrinth specifications, it was just different. The artifacts and icons surrounding it were an interesting mix of yellow roses, religious statuary, modern peace symbols, flags, hearts and whimsically placed as if a guard, A small resin stated of Scooby Doo of cartoon animation.

Nothing wrong or odd, though very different and curious. An unusual creation among the many I’ve visited. Then discovering soon after that this labyrinth had been built by Youth Ministry. Ahhh….understanding. Smile…just different!
