Daily Celebrations

Day 144: May 24
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Daily Celebrations with a labyrinth overlaid of rectangles and footstepsWhat practices or commitments do you make on a daily basis? Walking the labyrinth is one we can do to compliment our meditation, intentions, prayer, exercise, focus time or conscious presence, creative time, stress release or even better….joy increase. Where we want to improve, repeating a process or practicing it helps us to know it more and adapt to the lesson or desire to understand more. It is in those practices that we can appreciate and celebrate what we are doing to promote new understanding and make improvements with our understanding of ourselves and the world. We might not even realize that each time we step forward into a practice or commitment, we are celebrating the forward movements we make.

From eating to eating in a healthy way, to walking for discovery or improvement, the many simple things we do all day long may have a sense of repetition that we often don’t think about that are what allow our abilities to sharpen and strengthen. Take some time today to realize how many little and seemingly insignificant  things you do for your own well being and as you do, appreciate them and celebrate yourself. As we make improvements and cause for celebration in our own lives, we can help but interface with others in this better way and elevate the world too.

In this design there are 196 different positive ideas of things you probably do everyday though don’t consider the celebration of them…. Observe the change when you do.

On this 144th day…
Walk with all the things you do daily and celebrate those things that you do to improve and appreciate your life.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization

May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

Handy Signs

Day 78: March 19
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Discover

Day78_HandySignsIn our month of spirals to realize and surprise our honest living of possible possibilities, the spiral invites us to realize in its simple curvature, the value of its innate pure structure. Mathematically equivalent, it takes us on a journey of appreciating the grandure of the great complexities in the realms of universal infinity and simultaneously appreciating what is found within the palm of our hand. Our fingers are structured within the realms of the fibonacci sequence as the lengths of the finger bones graduate in size by approximately 1.618 measuring each difference by the numbers 2,3,5 and 8 which rationalizes the Fibonacci series. You can realize this when you make a fist as it is not a circle, but a spiral that develops. Realize the golden mean ratio by tucking your first finger into your palm.

If you were to trace a path from the outer edge of your palm opposite your thumb beginning along the heart line that is the topmost prominent line formation across your hand and continue traversing back along the head line. For those with a fate line you could move up and down coming back to the life line that naturally arcs inward to the opposite side of your hand toward the thumb. You might notice a natural labyrinth of traversing opportunity right in the realm of one of the most essential parts of your anatomy, your hand. We often don’t have to look far beyond ourselves to discover that we have pretty much what we need.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 78th day…
Finger walk the lines of your palm and then finger walk a paper or portable labyrinth to discover interesting relevance.

March’s Focus

As it is now the third month of the year and our last month of growing awareness before we delve into the ways of education, allow this month be one that creates both the light hearted discovery and profound realization. How can you create more awareness with the labyrinth personally or in the ways you share with others? Where do you notice a spiral effect that takes you to the point or away from it? Be on the lookout for the spiraling nature this month.

  1. Realize
In the 31 Days this month offers, become aware of the daily realizations that you create and discover. Walking daily creates compound interest in what you look forward to and discover each day. Let March become your month of expanded capacity as you walk to make each day and adventure in exploration of what more you can explore. Seek to spiral into new and inspiring realization and whether it is rich and profound or light hearted and amusing… be open, walk with intention and you are bound to come away larger.

2. Surprise
One can realize and find much in the depth of understanding that awareness offers us, though when we look forward to realization of that depth and awareness, it can inspire new ways of appreciation and discovery in both our  process and capabilities as we are constantly growing, no matter what age. Invite the element of  surprise into what you realize as it can lift what you discover into seeing a bit more than before.  Notice the spiral effect of how you move from realize to surprise and make discovery more significant and true.

A Treemendous Heart

Day 43: February 12
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Love

Today was another natural day and where it may be snowing in the East, the warmth and sun bringing pleasant days to the desert are welcomed joyfully.  Outdoors with a small group exploring labyrinths and natural areas of the local outer community, trees became a fascination as most stood erect without leaves. Their bark was smooth and the intricacy of the thin branches created an atmosphere of lace that hung from the limbs in a such a way that one understood the natural artistry and insight of jewelers and weavers.

As we hiked along to the labyrinth, a most magnificent tree made its appearance as we came around the bend. It stood spreading its wealth of ages in a circle that seemed to have been cleared just to allow its lineage the opportunity to expand and stand in all its elegant form. The ground beneath was completely open and rock free and it appeared that circles of interested individuals had sat speaking to the elder wisdom from time to time. The group was taken with the spectacle and so we decided to shuffle a labyrinth under the welcoming branches and allow for our heartfelt discussion to emerge like the impending season that would bring the leaves.

Feeling called to the center, the space between the two main branches opened to a small center and placing a hand there, the smoothness revealed a closer look. A heart shape had grown into the very heart of this tree. Looking closer the natural rings were similar to our natural pathways in the labyrinth, though not all as connected. It left its impression and a small design came to mind to appreciate the naturalness of this day, this discovery and a symbol of where the heart is.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 43rd day…
Branch out and find your natural roots in your walk of this day, when you do what shows up?

February’s Focus

As it is the second month of the year, enjoy two opportunities… discovery and realization.

  1. Discover your Love capacity:
This month’s 28 days will focus on how we are loving the moments we are creating. Learning to be “in love” with our focus, it expands who we are beyond the partnered relational aspects and into the focus of loving what we offer the world, who we are in community, relating at a higher level to everything and everyone; and most significantly,  elevating the relationship we have with ourselves. Prepare for a wonderful experience of exercising the power of love with the freedom of honesty to realize a greater look at possibilities and potential n a delightful way. Discover how capable you are!

2. Realize synchronous evidence:
Inspired by the variety of heart shaped labyrinths, this month capture your experiences with images of the heart. Be on the look out for where the synchronicity of the moments where your heart is in focus and then look around to see where you can find the shape of a heart in symbol. Your awareness will expand and you just might be surprised to find that when we look with an open heart, we can find it in reference near by. It does require a bit of imagination, though the findings are wonderfully worth it. Share all the heart shaped labyrinth images you find with images, links or comments and I will be happy to post the images and moments.
Care to Share and Share to Care!

The Wisdom of Waiting

TLS 365 Experience #237
October 23, 2017

Our message to the class today was to put something in and take something away.

We demonstrated this balanced equation on the labyrinth by walking in with a problem and returning with a solution. To prove the point we asked for it to be of a personal nature that each could find some element that was the solution or could lead them to one.

As the walk completed our discussion added the value of patience as several had been blank on finding solution, though noted the more peaceful way they felt. We offered a patience meditation and made a writing assignment for the evening.

By the next day everyone had found an answer or element that led them to look in a new direction.  When we teach we discover more than we knew before.

The Voice of the Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #229
October 15, 2017

Expressions on the labyrinth, a voice for the labyrinth. LAT2012Having painted the outline of a classical design onto a canvas cloth for a walk, I had intended to add other features after the walk completed. There was much in release and discovery in this walk that was offered and participants in the walk asked if they could inscribe their thoughts on the labyrinth.

It seemed like a good idea and though not what had been planned or considered for this labyrinth, it felt right to allow. People wrote messages of hope and inspiration. There was encouragement and truth and a heart that showed up in many places. Peace was a natural expression and the messages of the journey began to be inserted around the labyrinth.

Where I had ideas of what would be added to this, walking and allowing the process to unfold is a bigger and better teacher. Since that time of inscription, others have naturally been drawn to share something on this without being directed. This labyrinth has a voice and expressive quality and it allows what first came out of the experience to continue.

A Monthly Ministry of Service

TLS 365 Experience #224
October 10, 2017

My labyrinth partner and I have been giving monthly walks for many years, but my favorite thing is to create customized walks for groups.

Use of the labyrinth in ritual can bring people together for common goals and purposes, get them on the same page, resolve conflicts, enable change, open minds. Helping people plan their walk and how it might fit into a larger program can help them clarify what they really want to accomplish and put the focus on the larger purpose.

Helping to plan an event that incorporates the labyrinth is a form of ministry all its own. It has its own labyrinthine path, where we find that people come back to us again and again with changes and new ideas as they walk the path of our shared creation. It is the walk before the walk.

Nothing beats watching the joy and discovery on the faces of the people in the group as they walk out of the labyrinth at such an event, having found their inspiration and consensus, having had a profound experience and hearing about their experiences.

Affirming and Exercising

TLS 365 Experience #180
Aug. 27, 2017

Illinois Labyirnth

When life is smoothly sailing along, the walk on the labyrinth is an exercise of gratitude and a reminder of the affirmations and actions that support efforts that create appreciable moments.

When life isn’t, the labyrinth provides a sanctuary for discovery.

It is through the different directions that appreciation, curiosity or relief grows and the steps taken are the catalyst to provide it.

Tiny Steps

TLS 365 Experience #167
Aug. 14, 2017

Preschool Children on the labyrinth When it comes to children on the labyrinth, their small steps speak volumes of education and entertainment for any who are lucky enough to be in earshot. Sharing an opportunity with our preschool children one afternoon, I was curious to see where their curiosity and natural exploration would lead them.

So I lead them to the labyrinth and asked them to tell me what they saw in looking at the labyrinth. The answers were a priceless collection of ideas. Then I asked them to explore and some ran, some were tentative and still others were remarkably care free. At first they formed a line and wiggled as they walked. Then they began to play a kind of snake game trailing after each other.

The more they moved, the more they became independent and soon there was a mixture of collective movement in independent style. I marveled at watching how they interacted with the labyrinth in their own way and how these little tiny beings took steps to explore every inch and make it their playground of discovery.

A Natural Playground

TLS 365 Experience #147
July 25, 2017

children on the labyrinthThe labyrinth is a playground.

So many take its design and purpose very intently, sacredly and seriously and while each has its purpose and place, what seems forgotten is how versatile the labyrinth can be. I like that it doesn’t have to be one way or one thing, it can be many things to many people.

I use it with young children in a care giving situation. There is a labyrinth in the park nearby and when we use the park for outdoor activities, the labyrinth often becomes a place to play. Sometimes there are dancing and movement activities, at other times we use its maze like quality to race, run and unwind. We play games on the labyrinth as it is a natural place for adventure. We play and pray together.

Through we also create much in collaboration, taking turns, inclusion, communication and creativity is explored so it also becomes a tool of learning. When we leave it up to kids, the labyrinth is a just a natural tool for discovery.

The Practice of Practice

TLS 365 Experience #87
May 26, 2017

I love the spontaneous nature of life and find myself resisting the routine or scheduled more and more. It feels contrary to tie myself down to an obligation when the flow of just being with is calling.

As I find myself following the call of the labyrinth, as if it is by magic,  I discover or rather remember something as I walk through its interesting array of turns. I see both the expected that is found in routine and the unexpected spontaneous in what I call each new direction. By the time I reach the center, I begin to realize that the scheduled or practice got me here to explore the spontaneous.

As I reflect I understand in small steps that the call is my curiosity and having a value for that is what schedules the time to honor it. I realize now the practice is what allows the flow to be more fully realized, step by step.
