Conflict Resolution

TLS 365 Experience #257
November 12, 2017

Conflicts indeed can be sorted out on the labyrinth, from the internal conflict we might struggle with on any given day to the difference of opinion that two people might be on either side of understanding. Though differences between groups of people and even our nation might well be served with a walk on the labyrinth.

Over the years of offering walks and talks of the labyrinth, I’ve come to learn of the many ways that indifference can become difference, which makes more matter and at least have an opinion. Difference can become appreciated for what it is and for what is not understood and causes conflict, the labyrinth walk helps perspective to grow and more to be understood and appreciated. Conflict is everywhere and found in everyday, time on the labyrinth allows for time and viewpoint to change.

When I heard the labyrinth was used instead of time out isolation at an elementary school, it brought hope for evolvement in education.  I think if we can get more of humanity to sort out life’s issues on the labyrinth more regularly, we might indeed have the peace we seek.

Tactile Touch

TLS 365 Experience #252
November 7, 2017

finger labyrinths with seniors

Over the years I have bought many finger labyrinths from TLS Members and bid on several from the silent auction. I use them in working with Seniors who aren’t able to move as freely without a walker, cane or wheel chair for support Sometimes I begin a story and let them come up with an ending, this works well in the schools too.  Other times we talk about life and use the finger labyrinth before and after for different outcomes.

The variety is nice because some need a simple design with few paths, others like the more intricate and narrower lines of the Chartres design. There are many types of textures in the different varieties too as it can help with tactile stimulation with seniors or special education groups similarly. There are many similarities in working with youth and seniors and the labyrinth is something that can be a versatile education that is movement oriented, stimulating and can be fun and playful for either group too.

Simple Contributions

TLS 365 Experience #251
November 6, 2017

The simplest contribution we can make is when we create awareness, education or application of the labyrinth and share it with others. It can be in a presentation where information is offered. It can be in a walk where people experience it. It I can be in design, art, building, or how we use our collective and individual talents to offer the labyrinth to others.  Even just sharing your enthusiasm about the labyrinth with others about is a contribution in answering a question or in the telling of an experience.

What Patience Provides

TLS 365 Experience #205
September 23, 2017

The Labyrinth at LYU in IndiaThe ground floor of the temporary university in India was not the place to add a labyrinth, though I am conscious of the grounding principles of design. The ground floor harmonized with Indian philosophies of nature and being close to our roots in what we were learning. The only place to add a labyrinth that was open and available was on the roof.

With my Indian helpers I chalked out the design and when I asked for blue paint to implement it, they brought me green. I added a thin green border around the edge and ran out of paint, so they brought me more. It was blue. Working with what I had, it seemed the elements of Earth were showing up as I had the blue of the seas, the green of nature and on the roof it became the one place to touch the sky that everyone loved.

I had wanted to fill it in with artwork, though ran out of time and what I have heard since my return to the US was that classes that followed me added their own inscriptions and art to the design. Like any good education, the seeds are planted for students to take root…and so they have. The lesson of what patience provides has been a delight to learn.

Offerings of the Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #166
Aug. 13, 2017

I share the labyrinth with my classes offering them a chance to understand a different kind of meditation, a new way to examine deeper and more efficient breath and the opportunity to practice mindfulness.

Participants are often intrigued as to how the labyrinth can make the type of difference that it does make and I send them home with finger labyrinths and the world wide labyrinth locator information, so that they might find a permanent structure near where they live. I find there are such a variety of ways to utilize the idea of the labyrinth where learning and education are involved.

In self education, the labyrinth provides a vital reflection.

Teach and Learn

TLS 365 Experience #121
June 29, 2017

I wonder how many stop to consider the many experiences and ways they have shared and educated with the labyrinth. It is a moment of appreciation for all we actually have learned by what we share.

Aside from personal development I continually appreciate the many ways the  labyrinth becomes teacher. I have coached others with the labyrinth in group and individual session and experience. There are great meaningful messages in our walk and our talk that ease individuals into new perspectives and a sense of appreciation for each to realize their own discoveries. It is like a path of permission where we both teach and learn.

In Between the Lines

TLS 365 Experience #61
April 30, 2017

If you have walked a labyrinth… you have a story to share.

Whether is yielded an insight or an epiphany, or it seemed to give nothing more, each walk is an experience.  Those that are enriched in between the lines, are more so when they tell the tale as in the telling the expression is interpreted and the witness is educated and touched.

It is the double meaning of the meaning when we care to share the stories in between the lines.

A Fool’s Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #32
April 1, 2017

The April Fool's Labyrinth

April Fool’s Day and a reminder of the Great National Humor month upon us. Where a sense of humor isn’t automatically granted, we might appreciate building more of one this month in the passages of the labyrinth.

It is often quite amusing to see ourselves in the metaphor in which we arrive and when we give ourselves permission to chuckle, we appreciate a healthier sense of ourselves.

To fool is to play and to play cleverly and contribute rather than detract is our education.

Welcome to the second season of the Labyrinth and the theme of Education for the TLS 365 Experience.
