Triple “E” Effect

Day 66: March 7
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Discover

The grace of the Euler spiral is in its elegant lines that begin with zero curvature at the origin and then arch outward to equalize the spirals diameter in proportion to its length. It defines the linear relationship between curvature and arc length. Leonhard Euler was a Swiss German mathematician, physicist, astronomer, logician and engineer. Accomplished on many levels he is revered as a leading mathematician of the 18th century and is the only mathematician to have two numbers named after him. The elegance of this spiral was formed to innovate the concept of elasticity and to mathematics. Euler’s spiral serves as the basis for Cornu’s spiral and serves as a solution to the practical purposes of a variety of operational elements, such as those related to Gamma, Gauss Error and Hypergeometric functions.  It’s value lays in its elegant design and variable application.  Mathematicians, artists and theorists agree, it is a beautiful visual element with great purpose.

In repeating its simple structure, it can become more, as in the depiction of this six petaled connection using three Euler spirals to inspire nature’s symmetry in floral petals appreciating the long arc and central connection that naturally apply form and function. It is in the message of this spiral and its perspective from the origin point of to the curvature developed on the way to its destination that reminds us of  more efficient ways to go from our own point A to point B. Today was such a walk in removing the unnecessary and staying the course of the curve to a more effective outcome. The practicality of the labyrinth is marvelous when we consider its natural elemental design.

It is an ease for complication and an inspiring triple treat in a design that applies what is Effective, Efficient and Elegant in its purpose.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 67th day…
What is most efficient and effective in your walk of today, what is necessary and what does not fit the scope of your destination?

March’s Focus

As it is now the third month of the year and our last month of growing awareness before we delve into the ways of education, allow this month be one that creates both the light hearted discovery and profound realization. How can you create more awareness with the labyrinth personally or in the ways you share with others? Where do you notice a spiral effect that takes you to the point or away from it? Be on the lookout for the spiraling nature this month.

  1. Realize
In the 31 Days this month offers, become aware of the daily realizations that you create and discover. Walking daily creates compound interest in what you look forward to and discover each day. Let March become your month of expanded capacity as you walk to make each day and adventure in exploration of what more you can explore. Seek to spiral into new and inspiring realization and whether it is rich and profound or light hearted and amusing… be open, walk with intention and you are bound to come away larger.

2. Surprise
One can realize and find much in the depth of understanding that awareness offers us, though when we look forward to realization of that depth and awareness, it can inspire new ways of appreciation and discovery in both our  process and capabilities as we are constantly growing, no matter what age. Invite the element of  surprise into what you realize as it can lift what you discover into seeing a bit more than before.  Notice the spiral effect of how you move from realize to surprise and make discovery more significant and true.

Tuning In

Day 26: January 26
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

The walk of today brought out the honesty of listening. We speak much more frequently than we listen and it is an immense skill to hone in learning to create better ways to relate to everything. When listening can become our first response rather than the commonality we think we are creating with our stories, sharing and comments, we give ourselves a moment of leverage to listen, understand more of what is said through words, body language, tone and expression. Then what we communicate comes from a place that adds to the conversation and contributes to the well being. We have efficient and effective communications.

The labyrinth is a wonderful listening tool. It hears  our communication and speaks to us in steps and stages in our ability to listen and hear more of the conversation between the words as we see it at the beginning of our walk and the honesty that invites us gradually to the center. Listening in inspired this labyrinth of the ear this morning after my walk, fashioned after the natural labyrinth found in the ear.

A suggestion to walk with:

Fine tune your listening today in your walk and notice all you hear that isn’t spoken.

Accepting More

Day 21: January 21
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

In defining honesty we can’t really go to far without a look at acceptance. I have learned that this powerfully effective word can work both ways to uplift or divide people and our world.

When we can step back from any situation to see if we are uniting or dividing, acceptance is somewhere at the root of the contention. Sometimes we accept what isn’t in our best interest or for the good of all because we don’t know the fullness of the implications.

As this quarter is all about awareness, a simple walk with awareness today can bring us some moments of discovery if we are to observe where we tighten our bodies or mind and where we are at ease. It’s simple rule can guide us into more of the acceptance that works for us.

The walk today reminded me of this image and the artist who gave it to me. We were at an Annual TLS Gathering and she was present working on this piece in the open adjacent space to a workshop I was giving so could witness everything from her vantage point.  As my workshops tend to bring out expressions of joy, one would think she had not received much in not participating or in her expression afterwards. Though of the 100 individuals that were in my course, she was the one who ended up coming to my trainings, and coming more than once.

I’ve learned to realize that the inner expression of action is more reliable a measure than the outer reactions in this way, time and again. In accepting her to work at the edge of the room as she did, she was able to absorb our experience in her own way and accepted our presence in her work. We both ended up receiving something more in the realm of acceptance than we might if we divided, separated or judged.

A suggestion to walk with:

What more is gain when we define acceptance utilize it?

Gifts that Give

TLS 365 Experience #293
December 18, 2017

As the morning coffee began to brew, I wondered on the small finger labyrinth what message to bring to our group for the evening.  There were lots of ideas mulling around in my head, though nothing stood out and really felt much like the contribution I wanted to share.  As I smelled the coffee, my fingers moved faster and I realized I hadn’t been paying much attention to what I was doing as the aroma reminded me of morning rituals. The overwhelm of the holiday bustle had packed in too much and I could feel it.

Just in that moment as I traced another turn, the reminder that I could take another direction on this. I realized people had a lot to say and why not bring my portable labyrinth with and just get people walking, talking and sharing their thoughts. More over, it would seem like a special activity meeting for the holidays, this was just getting better and better.

Printing out finger labyrinths and writing a quick holiday message on each realization came as I finally stopped to sip the coffee, a simple and very effective meeting was planned using the idea of what gave me the idea. The labyrinth can be a gift that keeps on giving… and I now would be passing that on in giving that idea to others.

Design it Your Way

TLS 365 Experience #90
May 29, 2017

My morning was beginning to take on great proportions of inefficiency in time and task. I knew I had to stop and reflect as I was seeming to repeat a great number of steps to get closer to my goal. Just when I was thinking I was almost there, I seemed to be farther away and when I finally surrendered I found I was closer than expected.

Remembering the labyrinth, I realized I had been traveling the it’s path, though quite ineffectively. I stopped to reframe the necessity of my production versus my efforts and understood I didn’t need to use the 12 circuits of the Chartres Design I had been walking. Cutting out a few redundancies, I found a five circuit path would provide me with more time and better reflection.

As I relate things more like a walk on the labyrinth, my five circuits make a lot of sense. They’ve become rich and quality oriented. I see this as my five step program and in each path what is most important is accomplished and when it seems to reverse its pattern with new direction from time to time, I see it is just a moment for review  with checks and balances to realize before moving forward.

A To-Do List Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #39
April 8, 2017

To Do List Labyrinth

the To Do List Labyrinth

In honor of National Humor Month on the path of life possibilites, I made a To To List Labyrinth.

Then I had a more enjoyable time completing it as I reasoned what was necessary, what might be more efficient and how I might prioritize or collaborate with other things on the list.

It was both enlightening and entertaining and it all got done in a productive and appreciable, if not amusing manner.

…and I did it all with heart!
