Savoring Seasonal Steps

Day 25

January 25, 2019
Month of Beginnings
Quarter of Consciousness
Let’s Walk the World, a focus of contribution

  1. For Your Walk:
Close your eyes and imagine this walk in the seasons of your year. Walk in as winter. At the middle of the first half of your walk close your eyes again and imagine the spring. At the end of the first half repeat the imagination with summer and before the last quarter of the walk, imagine fall.
  2. For Your Experience:
Do you walk differently with the seasons? Which is the most engaging and which the least and why?
  3. Share:   Share your message
When we collectively offer the ways to begin, someone sees a new idea, thought or experience to enjoy. Today, share images, art, ideas, designs, tips, facilitations, building strategies, ideas from your book, poems, teachings, etc.

Today’s Experience:

The first snow of the season falls on the labyrinthWalked the labyrinth today even tho snow covered 99% of path! Insight that as long as I kept moving, with muscle memory of having walked it before and knowledge of the center, even if it wasn’t a neat way to get there, I would still arrive at the center and retrace my steps back out again.

Honest about some discomfort about not doing it “right” and appreciation for building consistency of engaging with the labyrinth/myself and getting good exercise and brisk fresh air, too!

January: A Month of Beginnings

With a focus on sharing this month and the ways we set up our plans to the actual way we place our first step, beginnings can offer us a way to realize our outcomes.

  1.  Explore what beginning is like for you, personally or professionally in all you do.
  2.  Observe yourself in this first quarter of the year as a contribution.
  3.  Walk, design, teach, build, express yourself in sharing an experience this month.

In the Beginning

Day 23: January 23
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

In the beginning, there is a point of intention, though sometimes we don’t always notice it. We want to walk, practice or just be in the experience and so we come to the walk in whatever way that serves us knowing, though not always knowing the truth that sits with us. We may ask a question and have clarity around it and walk to discover, though in that beginning moment the answer is already understood.

The walk serves to support, open and supply us with evidence that helps us to open and realize more perspective or reason beyond any doubts we might be questioning.

The walk we take helps us to believe more in our own ideas, abilities and inspirations. Each step becomes a clarity of purpose and the more we are open to it, willing and ready, the more likely what is at our beginning can be more visible to us in the ending. Our walk exercises our belief, truth and trust in what we know and in our own way, we find out the subtle honest nuances of who we are and what we are capable of in the steps we take.

Today’s walk in the desert was realized in the steps taken, solidified in the turns made and transitioned into a trust in reaching  the center as a place of holding space.  It deepened with perspective and materialized in the facets of realization that now sparkled with variety by the time the walk came to a close. At the end what was true in the beginning  remained and what accompanied it was an honest evaluation of its full value.

A suggestion to walk with:

How is your beginning more realized at the end?

TLS 365 Experience 2018: The Year of Living Honestly
Whether it’s a daily walk, teaching others, sharing an experience, expressions of art, building or design, we explore the questions of what brings us to honesty in our use of the labyrinth.

In a world of emerging truth, the labyrinth is a great experience to discover more of what is right and true about ourselves and humanity. Join us in sharing the honest moments it reveals.

Daily unfolding the process:
Next Mid Month 365 Experience Gathering on February 15th  to explore the monthly focus. Share your posts from your walks and experiences with our theme this week at: 365Experience@labyrinthsociety.org

Exercising Variety

TLS 365 Experience #283
December 7, 2017

Coming out to find some air, the labyrinth in the garden seemed to invite some blood circulation with a walk. Rubbing palms together and pulling the scarf around my neck, I enjoyed the cool snap of crisp air as I entered. Thinking of it as an exercise, pumping arms and marching steps became part of the movement.

As I was getting into the movement, another joined me on the labyrinth. I had a moment of hesitation as it seemed a private experience and interruptive of another’s quiet time. Just as I was about to surrender my large movements, the other woman did the same arm circles and called out, “Great idea!”.  As we both continued to exercise the labyrinth, we were joined by others who had been watching from inside and soon we had to watch out in our thrusting of arms and legs, not to make a harmful connection.

It became a cheering experience of movement and amusing connection that invigorated all of us. It was also a chance to realize a different experience of the labyrinth, rather than the quiet mindful walks I have known. Realization on the labyrinth comes in many forms and today I moved myself in a variety of ways.

The Things We Carry

TLS 365 Experience #273
November 28, 2017

Playing games for realizing potential and understanding life, I took an exercise and applied it to the labyrinth at a conference. I asked each to bring all the things they came into the course with including coats, purses, laptops, notepads, books, bags, drinks, food, etc. Some had much to carry and some had a few had very little.

They began their walk with the things they carry and at any point, they were encouraged to put down what they did not want to carry any longer on the labyrinth.  Anything left on the labyrinth was fair game for another to pick up on their walk. Our only objective was to not leave anything on the labyrinth. As they completed their walks, each brought their new/old belongings to a circle and each created a story with the items they had in their possession around a given topic.

It was a fun and amusing experience as was the retrieval of possessions afterward. The conversation that followed led to some greater realizations about the things we carry, choices, and the creativity in spontaneity.

Impromptu Education

TLS 365 Experience #272
November 27, 2017

We suddenly had extra time in our schedule open up in between lectures with a speaker absence and adjustment and when put on the spot to engage our group, I offered an exercise to listen and draw out what each heard, giving instructions for following the path of a labyrinth design. Without framework for size or purpose, proportion was off in the drawings, though interestingly consistent in some areas. They were all then shown the design that had been used.

Next I asked them to close their eyes and draw the design with the same set of directions. While some aspects were understandably distorted, the consistency of the design held and most shared that seeing the design in their mind assisted them. We finished by showing all a seed pattern and had them draw it out and then finger walk and journal to complete our time together. It was well received and wonderfully engaging for being an impromptu activity.

Pool Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #198
September 14, 2017

Classical design in an above ground pool.

Painting a labyrinth on the liner at the bottom of the pool is a great workout, meditation and just an introspective quiet time in the water. The water has much more force when walking so attention is called forth and where it can be a walk of attention, it can also be an exercise walk or even a swimming one. In the water, a chanting exercise while walking added a vibrational toning to the experience and where our bodies are mainly water, the labyrinth is a welcome addition to those who might wish to consider adding one to what you already have.
