Day 353  December 19
In The Year of Honest Living
In The Quarter of: Contribution
In The Month of: Honest Gifts

Segment Four: Talents
Days 353-358

Mental Talents Explored

image for Segment 4 by TheAmusedMuse.comMoving into our fourth segment of the month, talents are explored. Some individuals possess great abilities to compute, analyze or process information. Others appear to have a lingual ability to use words and still more might have acute visual orientation. Our thought process translates the ways we interact with the world, so optimizing this function is something we are continually improving throughout life.

Today’s walk on the labyrinth is a weaving through the brain folds to our execution point. We might note the similar paths of the labyrinth’s traversing nature and its spiraled focal point at the center. It’s not a surprised that when we walk a labyrinth we unwind what is wound in the mind and how the busy engagement, slows and stills itself to use more of what is available in our human complexity.

Attention span, memory, reasoning and overall processing improved in speed, absorption, comprehension and flexible expansion are beneficial stimulants exercised more functionally when oxygen and blood supply operate optimally. Walking the labyrinth today, we might not be readily aware of all that occurs, and this is only a part.

The exploration of the spiral during the month of March explored its relativity in the natural environs, to realizing the very realistic similarities in the way we process information and the spirals that are inherent throughout our body composition. It’s not a surprise to see how our expansion and narrowing can service us at times and work against us when they are not in their natural order.

Sayings

Day 310  November 6
In The Year of Honest Living
In The Quarter of: Contribution
In The Month of: Grateful Pathways

The Path that S Provides

the letter S as a labyrinth designed by TheAmusedMuse.com
There is no politics in Thanks, as it doesn’t need to be negotiated and it’s present for our consideration in every moment. Vote for thanks and elect it as an ideal worthy word of praise and acknowledgement to express and grow in the feeling when we do. Today, Say Thanks. Express it on every path you take and when you walk on the labyrinth make this sixth letter stand for something when you speak it out loud or shout it in silence for yourself.

Sayings

It is in the saying of thanks that the conveying of playing, praying and all kinds of yaying come alive while gratitude grows from your simple expression. As sayings go, this is one that can really grow on every path. Begin with saying  Thank You on the path and soon you will realize something to be thankful for. Skip the idea of saying I am grateful for…. as it sounds too much like we are trying to convince ourselves. This week, just be honest and simple with an expression that says thank you. Then watch as it does the work.  it will be amazing at what you find on the path to be thankful for by the end of the path and at the end of the walk, you will be in much more gratitude by allowing what you give thanks for to show up and surround you.

On a Path of Saying…

Say thank you and allow the path to provide your memories of what you hold thanks for.
Say thank you and without thinking, observe what naturally pops up in pictures of your thanks.
Say thank you and know of all the times you have said this, this path says it back to you.
Say thank you and feel the vibration of the words as instances of why you have thanks appear.
Say thank you and realize the power of your expression in who you say it to and how its received
Say thank you and hear the echo in the steps of your path filling with thanks without reason.
Say thank you and notice expansion occurring the more you reduce any need to maintain anything by thanks in the framework of your walk and expression.

Daily Insights : On this 310th day…
As saying go, thank you is powerful, walk the entire path just saying thank you until you are complete changes something within.

Stimulating Sense

Day 233  August 21
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: States of Being United

four images of labyrinths combined on beach, in forest, in lavender and at a winery

Sensory Opportunities with Labyrinths of Oregon. Photo Credits: UL – Geneva Miller, UR – Katherine Audley, LL – TeBri Vineyards, LR – Fairsing Vineyards

Uniting ourselves with our innate sense ability is often an occurrence of the labyrinth, though perhaps not fully appreciated for the activation it brings to the senses. Our human appreciations often extend to what we realize with a cognitive mind that relaxes in a walk, though what helps it to relax the mind isn’t just in what we see with our visual sense, or understand with comprehension, it is also heightened by what and how we touch, hear, taste and smell in our experiences.

The state of Oregon has encouraged many labyrinths with a number of enthusiasts to inspire a curiosity within. Among them these four inspire the senses. The labyrinths at Bandon Beach invite the barefoot experience of feeling the natural element of sand beneath each step. The breeze of the sea air brings a refreshing sense felt in the body. Denny Dyke, an area artist invited a New Year’s celebration in 2015, and perhaps a way to feel our way into a new year.

Move south by only 20 minutes and one can discover the artist town of Port Orford and while art can stimulate our visual abilities, they also often invigorate our other senses indirectly. The labyrinth at Wildspring Guest Habitat however invites a walk in the woods for a sacred listening experience. Hearing the sound and effect of the breeze through the trees for instance stimulates our auditory to sharpen its acuity and listen to the sounds of what moves around us and often within us.

Stimulating the olfactory sense, the scent of lavender at the TeBri Vineyards stems from seeding and nurturing of a lavender labyrinth planted in 2009. Where we might overlook our chemoreception of smell, it is our great detection source deciphering over a trillion different smells according to a new study at the Rockefeller University. An often overlooked sense, the olfactorial process is a great aid to exploring and expanding our human abilities and a walk with a focus of lavender with its numerous curative properties might be a healthy healing walk indeed.

The final sense of taste awaits at the Fairsing Vineyards where the discerning abilities of varietal grapes are further explored on the labyrinth outside the tasting rooms. In Oregon there are a number of different wines relating to the labyrinth, yet the TeBri and Fairsing vineyards allow the opportunity to move and explore greater capacities. Our sense of taste is an exploratory field adapting to its available environments. At least six basic tasting abilities our found to help us identify and detect and while there are offshoots of those basic categories, we might discover more of them in our discerning walks with it in mind.

The state of the labyrinth in Oregon image

The labyrinth yields us opportunities to expand ourselves to the environment and the environment to expand for us. Using the senses today, we open our abilities in a greater sense and honestly look at what we can do when we utilize more of our natural functions. Oregon is a welcome host to that investigation and leaves us in a more complete sense.

Daily Insights : On this 233rd day…
Explore more of your sensory abilities as you turn into a new direction in your walk of today, heighten your awareness to a more discerning level to notice what activates, integrates and makes more sense of our body in our environment.

Expand to Understand

Day 179:  June 28
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Exploration

The labyrinth hedge design in the shape of a hand with a heart at the center of the palm in Austria

In the land of glittering things we are invited to the garden of Swarovski Crystals of Austria. Where a mirror pool glistens illuminated by a series of crystal clouds that add musical orientation to the experience. There are displays of art, expression and statement in the larger than life sized representation that inhabit this garden of expansiveness. Situated near the sculpted children’s play area is the design by André Heller of a labyrinth of great size in hedge foliage that depicts the hand. At its center is a heart that one spirals into in the walk.

The gardens are full of artistic statements and sometimes when we want to get a point across, the best thing to do is to exaggerate to inspire action.  This labyrinth design gives us great entertainment as well and opens a broader perspective of what we hold in the palm of our hand and how we might hold it.

Note: The original schematic of this design indicated a labyrinth heart at its center, though this design, while quite interesting is more maze than labyrinth even though Austria calls it a labyrinth.

On this 179th day…
Explore what you hold in the palm of your hand and how you hold it today in your walk.

Appreciations of Celebrations

Day 151: May 31
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Remembering a fond labyrinthAs we close this merrier month of May in celebration with new realizations and old appreciations, we are uplifted in the capacity we have as humans to look for the path that provides the light. It is our hope this year to provide an honest way to experience the greater abilities of ourselves that can be surprisingly simple and true. In walking this path we can embrace the world changes with our changes in some new ways that help us to evolve as citizens of the world walking a path that is unique to each of us and common to all.

Each day in May, as each day in 2018 a new posting has been provided with illustrations to explore, evolve and energize the subtlety of how celebration provides us a path of possibility for our walk on the labyrinth and the steps we take in our everyday occurrences.  This month we’ve celebrated beginnings, festivals, World Labyrinth Day,  Mother’s, birthdays and more reminding us that one day of celebration commemorates a year of effort. On this last day of May, we also celebrate those we memorialize who stood for the country and served in its defense. Today marks a great celebration of service and whether you are of this great nation or another, walking together as one nation and one world is a fitting way to close our month with great realization of great appreciations.

On the first day… we walk in and on the last we walk out to a new beginning. In appreciation for this opportunity of sharing the celebrations of May!

On this 151st day…
Reflect on your month’s education of celebration and how your last walk of the month reflects the appreciations of your realizations.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization

May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page

The Unexpected Path

Day 147: May 27
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

The path that leads to the unknownThe unexpected path presents an opening to an unknown destination. It seems to arrive as a confluence that enriches our continuation or a crossroads for decision. When a new path appears in the design of a labyrinth, its typically a result of how it fits the purpose of the whole experience, yet sometimes it is the surprise formed when at least two other forces have convened. That extra magical experience is the universal expansion that is produced whenever two become one makes for a new mathematical equation that formulates as 1 + 1 = 3.The r

Whether it is in the creativity of a new design where an artistic stroke reveals a new path in the labyrinth or in the deeper convergences of life, unexpected paths appear to take us on grand adventures and the more we become honest with ourselves in seeing our own abilities activated.  Where a conditioned caution may prohibit what is natural in exploration and expansion, the infinite still calls in design, steps, education and enthusiasm to those curious enough to hear it and wise enough to follow.

Today’s journey was with expediency in mind though unpopulated and without GPS in the mountains, reliance on common sense and signs of nature for guidance made it truly the unexpected path. The journey on foot used all the natural signs for success and now the test was to use it on the drive home.  Realizing a sudden detour made it a much longer route with a lower level of fuel and only the sun to guide called for trust and faith.  The reach for using that larger capacity came into action and by recalling a quick glance of a map, it seemed curious that this path I was on might indeed be the road less traveled.  It also happened to be one I thought might be good to travel when there was more time to enjoy… and with a fuller fuel gauge.

Where the condition of the unknown might create a different drive, inner knowing and the gifts of nature that made themselves gloriously present drove curiosity over calamity. The scenery instilled pure knowing and faith.  When finally arriving back to home destination much later and on fumes, the realization of the gifts of the unexpected path provided much in expanding capacity for trust, faith, choice, enjoyment as well as a bounty of new discoveries to appreciation. It had made the overall experience one to celebrate.

On this 147th day…
Consider the unexpected paths that have appeared, the ones you have taken and what you realized in your walk today and in your larger walk of life, observe the unexpected paths that appear today too.

April's Banner Year of Living Honestly 2018April’s Focus

Let this month unfurl your creativity, spontaneity and jocularity. It feels good to feel good and while we have been conditioned to shush our good times, let the labyrinth be our own private creation station of amusement, enjoyment and playful experiments. This month educate with amusement and see how much farther you get. Have fun and be creative.  We have three opportunities to education your potential with amusement this month that involves either your personal walk, your ability to design and how much you can learn by sharing. On your Mark, Get Set…Go!

  1. Innovate – Walk Amused
In the 30 days that grace this month, play with the way you personally experience the labyrinth. Let this season of education be one of personal bests and enjoy finding a new way to be innovative, creative, inspired and amused in your personal experiences. I’d love to see what you come up with!
    Please share your wonderful experiences!

2. Create – Design Inspired
To date I have created 95 different labyrinth creations and designs since the beginning of the year, let that inspire you to create something new this month that is inspiring and firing for your imagination. Einstein said that playing with ideas was the highest form of research and this is an education for all of us.  As you walk in new ways, share your designs as I have done with mine last year and this. Perfection isn’t what we are after, amusement is! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! I will toss out lots of inspiring ideas… stay tuned daily.
Share away and become a glad designer instead of a mad one!

3. Relate – Share with Care
One of the best ways to learn anything is having to teach or explain it to someone else. Whether you facilitate others, teach or simply share with a few, spend the month discovering amusing new ways to help others get more out of their walk with a lighter attitude and a more earnest enjoyment in what you share. Anything you want to know more about, share and this month share with a fun flair and notice how much more you actually begin to understand. You just might find a side of yourself forgotten. To receive all that, be a great giver.
Share what you discover!

Spiro Mania

Day 89: March 30
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Discover

Spiro Mania LabyrinthsThe mechanism of the spiral is a phenomenon in our lifetime, it represents who we are, how we respond and interact with our environment and the realization that we all function in the same way of spiraling in motion, even when we do not realize it. This month has given us the opportunity to realize our surroundings in nature and the environment we reside in as well as our internal physical nature. We have alluded to the spirals within our brain where it refers physical, though not the cognitive mental functionality or emotional responsiveness.

When we walk the labyrinth we are unwinding the mind in a physical way, though we are also walking with thoughts and feelings and that is what is at the heart of our discoveries of realize and surprise this month in our capacity. Our physicality does change in the stress release provided in a labyrinth walk for the better, though so does our attitude and aptitude. We can realize the spiral of thought expanding with creativity and ideas, once the direction of our spiral changes from being stressed to being impressed with a new focus. The same applies to our attitude, as it can spiral the way we feel up a helix spiral or down. When we walk the labyrinth, we pause, reflect, consider and value our time connected to something more universal.  One might imagine that anytime an individual walks a labyrinth, there is probably someone, somewhere walking one too.

Today’s design incorporated a trove of spirals that we have appreciated in this month, it is not all, though one that will keep you on a happy finger walk for a while should you wish to deeply spiral within the spirals. Move from top to bottom and use the Archimedes or Arithmetic Spiral to center as a suggestion, or be creative and spiral at your own pace and passion.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 89th day…
Walk with the spiral of thoughts and feelings, be aware of the spiral beyond the physical sense and notice what redirects, corrects or reflects in your experience.

————————————————————————————–

March’s Focus

As it is now the third month of the year and our last month of growing awareness before we delve into the ways of education, allow this month be one that creates both the light hearted discovery and profound realization. How can you create more awareness with the labyrinth personally or in the ways you share with others? Where do you notice a spiral effect that takes you to the point or away from it? Be on the lookout for the spiraling nature this month.

  1. Realize
In the 31 Days this month offers, become aware of the daily realizations that you create and discover. Walking daily creates compound interest in what you look forward to and discover each day. Let March become your month of expanded capacity as you walk to make each day and adventure in exploration of what more you can explore. Seek to spiral into new and inspiring realization and whether it is rich and profound or light hearted and amusing… be open, walk with intention and you are bound to come away larger.

2. Surprise
One can realize and find much in the depth of understanding that awareness offers us, though when we look forward to realization of that depth and awareness, it can inspire new ways of appreciation and discovery in both our  process and capabilities as we are constantly growing, no matter what age. Invite the element of  surprise into what you realize as it can lift what you discover into seeing a bit more than before.  Notice the spiral effect of how you move from realize to surprise and make discovery more significant and true.

Galactic Steps

Day 62: March 3
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Discover

The most ancient spiral in our universe is being discovered and researched at the Australian National University and known simply as Galaxy A1689B11. It appears to be 11 billion years old and is considered to be very rare, as spirals are not often found in the early stages of Universal origins.

The importance of this ancient spiral holds a key to unlocking the sequencing of galaxies in their formation and expansion as expressed by noted astronomer Edwin Hubble in 1925. In a spiral galaxy the arms that extend and wrap around  the center are categorized by their tight circular formation or by its looseness. Stars are formed in the arms and the center is known as the great bulge. It is where old stars are located and black holes exist.  One can perhaps better understand the nature of labyrinth design in this tight or loosely structured circular circumference and relate to the black holes with infinite curiosity of what seems to be similarily in the center of the labyrinth; perhaps as a vortex of possibility.

Taking in the vastness of this ancient universe and our spiral shaped Milky Way galaxy, steps on the path today were more infinitely more expansive in consideration. While the majority of galaxies are spiral, there are also elliptical and irregular varieties; each circular in nature. It makes the labyrinth’s similar qualities more interesting and curiously significant. Walking into the labyrinth offers a universe of possibilities and finding a black hole of infinite wonder in its center can become a repository for release or an endless supply of imagination. To walk larger and become more than we currently know is the ultimate in honest realization and whether it is a small realization or a large one, the surprises of discovery always make it more delightful and insightful.
