Horsing around with Innovation

Day 129: May 9
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Labyrinth as an Equestrian learning pathRemembering the Equestrian Riding Club that came to demonstrate the agility of the horse on the labyrinth. It was quite a demonstration of grace that allowed both horse and rider to come to a moment of truth in the elegant ease of which both navigated the turns in flow with the labyrinth’s path. There is much wonderful work done with the horse and the labyrinth and much to celebrate in the accomplishments of creativity and innovation that continually find new uses for this ancient path.

In my travels I have met individuals who rehabilitate horses using the path of the labyrinth and one might think they are wide paths, however the path is purposefully narrow and the size of a regular labyrinth. This  really shows the honest ability guided to its fuller potential. There are others that rehabilitate people with improved health, elevated emotional fortitude, reconnecting physical ability and restoring cognitive function on horseback. When they take the horse to the labyrinth, what has been reported is that both rider and horse experience beneficial improvements.

On this 129th day…
Celebrate your own navigation of the path and step into awareness of the improvements made in your physical body, attitude, aptitude and overall connected realizations.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization
May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

The Key of Flow

Day 98: April 8
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Amusement

The Greek Key Labyrinth and the Red Eggs of Orthodox EasterThe holidays of the Christian Easter and Passover have completed and are followed by the Orthodox Christian Easter that begins today as identified by the Julian calendar that sets the date after Passover. This Easter is the result of the excommunication of the Pope of the Catholic Church and the Eastern Patriarch of the Orthodoxy back in 1054 AD where the adoption of the Gregorian calendar by Catholic and Protestant Christianity set a new date for the Easter holiday. Easter is a time of resurrection and freedom added by the newness of Spring reminding us to begin anew and rise.

The use of the Greek Key is a great appreciation for the consistent pattern that moves the tide of flow. It comes from the ancient river Meander and symbolizes the natural order of movement; and when it comes in the form of a circle, it is a reminder of how we are connected in the bonds of friendships and families. The Greek Key has been an important iconic geometric pattern that flows throughout Greek history and is a symbol of infinity. The custom of the red eggs denotes the blood of Christ and the designs can be as simple as a pure red dye or  as different and intricate with patterns depicting the cultural basis and beliefs of the different Orthodoxies.

It was fun to create this element of time with 24 keys to walk each hour of this day in one instance to elevate the flow of possibility that exists in review of what we can make free with the honesty of this year’s program and amusing to add the design of the labyrinth to the depth of meaning that the red eggs symbolize humbly honoring what we can set free and realize within ourselves.

May the joys of connection, rising and infinite flow enhance your walk and exploration of ancient meanings for conventional times today.

On this 98th day…
Meander in the ease of natural flow in your walk and notice how much more at each your natural flow becomes.

April's Banner Year of Living Honestly 2018April’s Focus

Let this month unfurl your creativity, spontaneity and jocularity. It feels good to feel good and while we have been conditioned to shush our good times, let the labyrinth be our own private creation station of amusement, enjoyment and playful experiments. This month educate with amusement and see how much farther you get. Have fun and be creative.  We have three opportunities to education your potential with amusement this month that involves either your personal walk, your ability to design and how much you can learn by sharing. On your Mark, Get Set…Go!

  1. Innovate – Walk Amused
In the 30 days that grace this month, play with the way you personally experience the labyrinth. Let this season of education be one of personal bests and enjoy finding a new way to be innovative, creative, inspired and amused in your personal experiences. I’d love to see what you come up with!
    Please share your wonderful experiences!

2. Create – Design Inspired
To date I have created 95 different labyrinth creations and designs since the beginning of the year, let that inspire you to create something new this month that is inspiring and firing for your imagination. Einstein said that playing with ideas was the highest form of research and this is an education for all of us.  As you walk in new ways, share your designs as I have done with mine last year and this. Perfection isn’t what we are after, amusement is! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! I will toss out lots of inspiring ideas… stay tuned daily.
Share away and become a glad designer instead of a mad one!

3. Relate – Share with Care
One of the best ways to learn anything is having to teach or explain it to someone else. Whether you facilitate others, teach or simply share with a few, spend the month discovering amusing new ways to help others get more out of their walk with a lighter attitude and a more earnest enjoyment in what you share. Anything you want to know more about, share and this month share with a fun flair and notice how much more you actually begin to understand. You just might find a side of yourself forgotten. To receive all that, be a great giver.
Share what you discover!

Three Tears

Day 82: March 23
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Discover

Arriving in the midst of a hard choice between a long time friend’s child’s wedding or the memorial service of an adult student were offered on the same day. Having a vital role in each, the three hour distance from one to the other would not permit attendance at both. Due to the long time connection of the friend/daughter, the wedding was the chosen option, though finding a suitable way to leave a sincere message for the ceremony was important. Two great moments that mark a milestone of life transition occurring on the same day is a humble moment to cherish the precious time of our existence.

Thinking of the tears and cheers a lifetime makes, the teardrop was the focus of this design that would be presented to the husband, son and mother of the student along with a memory collage of photos of her in our classroom. She loved the addition of the labyrinth in our workshops and so it seemed only fitting to dedicate the teardrops of life to her. Three tears reminds us of the large component of water we are made of, the spirals of life that wind like the rivers flow and the moments to cherish in our life cycle.

One tear for the reflection of our birth and how we come into the world gracing it with our presence for the hope and possibilities we bring. One tear fro the time in between our beginning and our end to celebrate how we lived and made the most out of it and what we leave behind as a result. One tear for our goodbye and for all those that touched us, were touched by us and the memories that linger. Walking three tears for this wonderful woman who made the world better for having been in it on the labyrinth was a spiral into her life and how we came into each others for a brief time to connect, laugh and learn together. We spiral constantly and if we are lucky, we have the chance to imprint a heart and impact a life.

Begin at the bottom and walk into the tears along the blue path. We are mostly water. Left to right, the birth, the living and the parting and in all there is always choice.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 82nd day…
Walk with the tears and cheers of the moments in between where you arrive and leave.

March’s Focus

As it is now the third month of the year and our last month of growing awareness before we delve into the ways of education, allow this month be one that creates both the light hearted discovery and profound realization. How can you create more awareness with the labyrinth personally or in the ways you share with others? Where do you notice a spiral effect that takes you to the point or away from it? Be on the lookout for the spiraling nature this month.

  1. Realize
In the 31 Days this month offers, become aware of the daily realizations that you create and discover. Walking daily creates compound interest in what you look forward to and discover each day. Let March become your month of expanded capacity as you walk to make each day and adventure in exploration of what more you can explore. Seek to spiral into new and inspiring realization and whether it is rich and profound or light hearted and amusing… be open, walk with intention and you are bound to come away larger.

2. Surprise
One can realize and find much in the depth of understanding that awareness offers us, though when we look forward to realization of that depth and awareness, it can inspire new ways of appreciation and discovery in both our  process and capabilities as we are constantly growing, no matter what age. Invite the element of  surprise into what you realize as it can lift what you discover into seeing a bit more than before.  Notice the spiral effect of how you move from realize to surprise and make discovery more significant and true.

Body Wisdom

Day 39: February 8
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Love

Why am I loving that?
The simple awareness of asking questions can get us to take a look at what we do on a conscious and unconscious level.  Just because we have always done things in a certain way, doesn’t mean we can’t change them. The world is a changing place so it stands to reason that adjustment leads to evolution.

Today’s walk was a wonder of notice in what felt flowing and what was constrictive. The body shares a variety of messages and when we ask questions or make decisions, our body has a way of telling us how true it is. Listening and feeling in the walk today, the familiar resistance in the back of the neck alerted a direction that just wasn’t serving. The notice of this notice was simple and powerful in the honesty the body speaks to the heart of the matter. A change of direction was like a change of heart and an alignment of honesty.

—————————————————————————————

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 39th day…
The body speaks in truth and to the heart of the matter, love the messages of wisdom as you walk into your day.

February’s Focus

As it is the second month of the year, enjoy two opportunities… discovery and realization.

  1. Discover your Love capacity:
This month’s 28 days will focus on how we are loving the moments we are creating. Learning to be “in love” with our focus, it expands who we are beyond the partnered relational aspects and into the focus of loving what we offer the world, who we are in community, relating at a higher level to everything and everyone; and most significantly,  elevating the relationship we have with ourselves. Prepare for a wonderful experience of exercising the power of love with the freedom of honesty to realize a greater look at possibilities and potential n a delightful way. Discover how capable you are!

2. Realize synchronous evidence:
Inspired by the variety of heart shaped labyrinths, this month capture your experiences with images of the heart. Be on the look out for where the synchronicity of the moments where your heart is in focus and then look around to see where you can find the shape of a heart in symbol. Your awareness will expand and you just might be surprised to find that when we look with an open heart, we can find it in reference near by. It does require a bit of imagination, though the findings are wonderfully worth it. Share all the heart shaped labyrinth images you find with images, links or comments and I will be happy to post the images and moments.
Care to Share and Share to Care!

A Choosing Point

TLS 365 Experience #162
Aug. 9, 2017

Center of the Labyrinth, a choosing point
Independently I use the labyrinth to connect.

I connect with myself, checking in with where my thoughts are and how I am responding to those thoughts in feeling to notice if they are aligned with what my heart and soul wish to express.

If I am not, the pace is different and there is a disconnect that lacks focus or direction. I seem to be just walking and not experiencing.

If I am on target, there is flow and appreciation and I begin to see the little things I might often miss in my walk.

The center is a choosing point of how to evolve from where I began.

Confusion or Clarity

Walk with the obstacles to discover the peace within.

With confusion or clarity, both will lead to Peaceful endeavors, though one is more direct. Have you ever noticed that we tend to think of the smooth and clear path as more favorable, though we learn the most from the bumpy and obstacle laden ones?

We are ever in a flux of change and movement as the world does not stop its revelations because we are not ready to spin with it. Though most know the Earth is revolving, how many stop to find stillness? It is in connecting to the movement that we may begin to realize the idea of what being in the flow of things is all about.

According to Andrew Fraknoi, the Astronomy Chair at Foothill College, the Earth is actually moving at a speed of 1,000 miles per hour at the equator in order to move around the sun and stars in one 24 hour revolution, which proves that even if we think we are sitting still, we are moving. The good news is that speed slows down a bit as we move away from the Equator and with gravity it puts in perspective about why we don’t actually notice the movement.

Let that be a note of inspiration if you ever think you are stuck. Simply let go of your perceptions and feel the flow of the universe to get in relationship with movement. Stick with the idea of motion and begin to appreciate the confusion as on the outside it may appear a mass of contradiction, though truly it’s only a series of entanglements waiting to educate and stimulate a deeper sense of knowing.

So whether the story that is unfolding today is clear and understandable or a confusion waiting to unroll, enjoy the flow of the step by step process that unwinds to bring the greater gifts to light.

Finding that the clarity is at one end of the road and the confusion at the other is about movement and the journey is about what brings us to realize that peace is everywhere.

“There is no way to peace, only peace”
Mahatma Gandhi
