Day 185  July 4
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

On this day of Independence and country pride in the United States, we are visiting the national culture of Italy and in particular the northern areas of Mantua and Milan. This began with an interesting find of the impressive Italian art and culture, yet turned into intrigue in discovering originals and complimentary copies of a ceiling labyrinth. It appears the first ceiling labyrinth installed at the Palazzo di S.Sebastiano occurred in the early 1600’s and was later moved to the apartments in the Palazzo Ducale. Impressed and copied, this impressive design is similar and can also be found in Milan at Museo Bagatti Valsecchi.

It is depicted as a gold labyrinth laid upon a celestial blue background and the illuminated blue band around the edge is in reference to the Gonzaga family’s patriarch Vincent, as a tribute to his battle with the Turks in 1601. Inside the five paths that make up the labyrinth is an inscription from the words of Bard and Poet Marchetto Cara that speak to the allusions of the uncertainty’s of life in a poem titled,
“Maybe Yes, Maybe not.”

Vincent was intrigued with the Bavarian courts designs and commissioned the Palazzo Ducale to be built with similar elaborate ornamentation in the great wings of the apartments. The labyrinth takes up the entire ceiling of the room and is featured among the many great rooms designed to honor the stature and ideals of the Gonzaga family who lived in Mantua from the early 13th century until the 17th.

Many of the great palaces have turned to museum status as the celebrated art accumulated in one family could now be shared as cultural pride in Italy. About two hours drive to the west in the city of Milan is the Museo Bagatti Valsecchi. Once a a home to the Barons Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi, brothers who collected volumes works of art. The labyrinth ceiling from the design at Palazzo Ducale intrigued them enough to commission their own ceiling design with a meaningful yet slightly different message inscribed within. The room is known as the labyrinth passage and a room between rooms as part of the living house that moved from  home to cultural museum.

On this day of independence, we can realize that the wealth in our uniqueness is much like the discoveries of these Italian families who learned to share their wealth for a more culturally appreciative nation. As we share our treasures, gifts and potent talents, we realize we are more free than when we are safeguarding and holding on to them. We are also never alone when we fortify others with what we have to offer.

On this 185th day…
Explore the ways in which you have received more when you gave of yourself in the walk of this day and how much more freedom and independence you feel as a result.

A Heart Worthy Purpose with Practice

Day 167:  June 16
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Exploration

the heart shaped labyrinth is full of the students of it from the Myanmar Center

The Labyrinth of the Interfaith Ministries of the Myanmar Center. Development and photo Credits: Jill Geoffrion

The designs are varied and inspiring  of the labyrinths in the world of exploration, though along the way we often find the stories of what created them, how they evolved and why they inspired individuals enough to create and share with the world. Many times it is art inspired, other instances stem from a way to bring awareness and still others bring with them a sense of learning, faith and the inspiration of the soul’s speaking.  In the many ways that labyrinths come to be around the world, the story of their creators is sometimes not available or lost and it very often has a very significant footnote in the origination and purpose.

Jill Geoffrion has made it a mission to share an education of the labyrinth within her ministries of sharing bringing people to own their experience by creating, building and developing from the inspired messages they can find when they know where to look. Inspired from the heart the labyrinths of Myanmar are a project of the Myanmar Insititute of Theology and what is inspiring is that their is an opportunity to grow from what is built. As part of the Master Level course a labyrinth is supposed to be built as well as a program developed around using and understanding it, ourselves and the largeness of theology.  It is a purpose with a practice and that can only lead to an evolution.

On this 167th day…
Explore your purposes and the practices around them that support the growth, direction and evolution.

Living Loving and Laughing with Laura

Day 142: May 22
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

The Pink Boa Labyrinth for LauraIn the heart and art of celebration, a friend is just that. Today is the birthday of Laura, she is a joyous soul who’s creativity is inspired by service. She brings her human presence fully alive to the Midwestern Ministry she provides as a Pastor of a small church  in Iowa.

She is also a Master Trainer of Laughter like myself and together we have offered 10 annual  conferences on the joy of living through laughter, playfulness and creativity. It is when we joined forces that the real fun began and I had opportunity to know this inspired individual even better.

Fond of labyrinths, this one is designed and dedicated to her outrageous spirit. In her church, they laugh in the pews to recall their joyful spirit and whether she is in Ministerial robes of providing an amusing way to explain her sermon, a pink boa is not far away.

So with a capital L for Loving, Living and Laughing out loud, it sits in the center for Laura who demonstrates to her parishioners, community, family and friends that it is ok to live out loud and beyond the box of conditioning. Happy Birthday Laura!

On this 142nd day…
Celebrate how you step out of the box and why you appreciate it.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization

May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

Shear Gladness

Day 112: April 22
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Amusement

strands of paths Today the strands of life came together through a collaboration of cosmetologists. Arriving at my daughter’s salon, the idea was to trim up a few loose ends and in the conversations and chatter, the labyrinth weaved its way from brain to scalp. The process and procedures of styling were standard, though being Mom, special treatment meant a few extra perks and a bit more time in the affair of the chair.

Time to doodle with affect of the surrounding wall images of ravishing locks, the observance of the threads and strands in their natural and somewhat unnatural order moved circular, straight and altogether redistributed. Each fun follicle emanated from a central point and with a variety of stylized directions maneuvered in such a way as to meander until it found its completion among others.

From a bottom’s up perspective one might find the intrigue begins at the ends and moves to a central point with a reflection from before to after. A look at some of the designs of coif and couture and it is not surprising to find a labyrinth affair of hair so purposefully appreciated. Perhaps in this amusing way, the labyrinth can remove all the twisting, twirling and teasing with a little straightforward insight.  In the honesty of a hair style we might discover some of our greater features that bring us to take things a little less seriously and be INspired by our natural creativities to play with what is available.

On this 112th day…
Weave your way onto the path today noticing the strands in each path and how they each are part of the whole.

April's Banner Year of Living Honestly 2018April’s Focus

Let this month unfurl your creativity, spontaneity and jocularity. It feels good to feel good and while we have been conditioned to shush our good times, let the labyrinth be our own private creation station of amusement, enjoyment and playful experiments. This month educate with amusement and see how much farther you get. Have fun and be creative.  We have three opportunities to education your potential with amusement this month that involves either your personal walk, your ability to design and how much you can learn by sharing. On your Mark, Get Set…Go!

  1. Innovate – Walk Amused
In the 30 days that grace this month, play with the way you personally experience the labyrinth. Let this season of education be one of personal bests and enjoy finding a new way to be innovative, creative, inspired and amused in your personal experiences. I’d love to see what you come up with!
    Please share your wonderful experiences!

2. Create – Design Inspired
To date I have created 95 different labyrinth creations and designs since the beginning of the year, let that inspire you to create something new this month that is inspiring and firing for your imagination. Einstein said that playing with ideas was the highest form of research and this is an education for all of us.  As you walk in new ways, share your designs as I have done with mine last year and this. Perfection isn’t what we are after, amusement is! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! I will toss out lots of inspiring ideas… stay tuned daily.
Share away and become a glad designer instead of a mad one!

3. Relate – Share with Care
One of the best ways to learn anything is having to teach or explain it to someone else. Whether you facilitate others, teach or simply share with a few, spend the month discovering amusing new ways to help others get more out of their walk with a lighter attitude and a more earnest enjoyment in what you share. Anything you want to know more about, share and this month share with a fun flair and notice how much more you actually begin to understand. You just might find a side of yourself forgotten. To receive all that, be a great giver.
Share what you discover!

Favorites

Day 37: February 6
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Love

designs by The Amused Muse 2018

Inspired by my son who is my favorite and only son, the idea of favorites became the focus of the walk on this day. Why are some things favorites and some things not? What does it say about what is personally valued? In all honesty, how does something become a favorite? Does it create ease, appease or does it please?  In what ways might we be more honest with favorites and in what ways are we more honest with out them?

Walking on the savored and favored simple things came up at first, a favorite color, favorite foods, favorite places and then a realization that a smile was forming in thinking about those things that had become favorites. Memories and experiences along with preference and choice with what aligned became a way to define personality. Attitude, imagination, creativity and inspiration were all a part of the walk in considering the favorites that showed up and what made them favorites. Favorites have a ring of truth in them as an honest choice about what we like.

Considering the other side on the walk of return became a perspective of dislike, need and attachment. At the walk’s completion the findings returned the idea that there isn’t any need for favorites, no real attachment and when what is not favored is not wrong, acceptance is present. Favorites, without dependence,  seem to have of stating our honest opinions and uplifting attitudes. Where going along with the crowd can be an easier non confronting choice, what we favor will out our truth if we are ever in denial of it.

In a walk of favorites and unfavorites an interesting conversation opens the door to awareness and deciphers a little bit more of ourselves in a way that can be uplifting, decisive and appreciative.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this sixth day…
Walk with your favorites and walk without them. Discover what opens your honest capacities.

February’s Focus

As it is the second month of the year, enjoy two opportunities… discovery and realization.

  1. Discover your Love capacity:
This month’s 28 days will focus on how we are loving the moments we are creating. Learning to be “in love” with our focus, it expands who we are beyond the partnered relational aspects and into the focus of loving what we offer the world, who we are in community, relating at a higher level to everything and everyone; and most significantly,  elevating the relationship we have with ourselves. Prepare for a wonderful experience of exercising the power of love with the freedom of honesty to realize a greater look at possibilities and potential n a delightful way. Discover how capable you are!

2. Realize synchronous evidence:
Inspired by the variety of heart shaped labyrinths, this month capture your experiences with images of the heart. Be on the look out for where the synchronicity of the moments where your heart is in focus and then look around to see where you can find the shape of a heart in symbol. Your awareness will expand and you just might be surprised to find that when we look with an open heart, we can find it in reference near by. It does require a bit of imagination, though the findings are wonderfully worth it. Share all the heart shaped labyrinth images you find with images, links or comments and I will be happy to post the images and moments.
Care to Share and Share to Care!

Karmic Truths

Day 30: January 30
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

We have a first hand look at the world of honesty from the spam invasion that seems to have found the comment area of our blog. Thanks to those who are sending earnest commentary, questions and sharing. The spammers send complimentary notes, though raise all kinds of ethical questions of taking content with little regard to our purpose here. Whether it’s a technology invasiveness or human transgression, we can find the world around us appears to have moments of dishonor and little regard for our earnest efforts;  walk to re engage what is true, what can be done and what it is that we really do have to do. Sometimes these things take care of themselves, other times we seek assistance and in other situations, we find the lessons of the experience to be telling.

Invited to a few marketing forums already this year, it is surprising to realize how many individuals do not use their own content and rely on others to say what they mean. From idea to implementation it appears possible to have others create your life for you to sell to others.  When participants in my workshops spoke of “stealing” my ideas and activities, it came as a surprise to them that I offered a better way that might keep them more honest, I let them know we engaged to inspire individuals to their own truth and ability. It does seem we are a world asleep to our believing in our own ability and honestly living into what is possible. When one takes on the idea of honesty as we have here,  it is a likely reality that we’ll encounter the opposite side in our experiences. How and where we walk with that can establish the depth of our determination to simply realize something that will service us as much as it will service others. When we discover what we are all about, small minded acts seem to become trivial. We all have our own karmic path to travel and paying attention to the bounty that shows up on ours is a full time experience of greatness.

A suggestion to walk with:

How do dishonest actions inspire your honest ones?

Synchronous Steps

Day 29: January 29
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

On my way to an event for a planning, the drive had a way of alerting me to the status I would arrive at as the directions seemed straightforward and simple, though for some reason obtaining the actual address seemed brought with unreal complications. Thinking of the unconstructed areas in this new region, I put the address into the GPS device and found I looped around to the left and came back to the main road and then circumnavigated again to the right with a few more turns appeared to come along to make it interesting. By the time I arrived again on the original thoroughfare, I decided to switch off the GPS and rely on my own abilities to find the rest of the way there.

It seemed not unlike the times when awareness raises in the lack of trust or dependence on a device. It is in those times that we can inspire ourselves with an honest realization of what we actually need and how often it lays at the feet of our own ingenuity. Realizing I had created a driving labyrinth, I sat for a moment with a chuckle and before going in as I suspected the meeting held some interesting directions of similar patterning. In this brief reflection,  I wasn’t surprised when directions for our planning meeting took us off course and looping around a bit.

With an honest moment of sharing my thoughts about my drive and it’s very labyrinth nature in conjunction to our process, it was easy to elevate the consciousness to move onto the same path and use the ideas and directions in a way that would bring us to a clear and defined point. It was quite something to be able to draw out a labyrinth and illustrate where we had been and where we might go more effectively. Trusting the message, speaking of the synchronous observation and using it to create a better outcome were the honest realizations and efforts of using and becoming what we are capable of in this year long experience of living more honestly with our possibilities, potential and path opportunities.

A suggestion to walk with:

Observe how the patterns in your walk today are used throughout your day.
