Carrying the Ceremony Forward

Day 195  July 14
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

a seven circuit circular labyrinth in grass with the borders in flame.

Fire burning rituals in Wales. Photo Credits: Farm Life in Wales

The flames of this labyrinth are set to rise high and in doing so it is a ritual tradition of older locals to put a Life sized goddess totem  in the center.  As the flames begin to die down, the heartiest of the group attempt a walk along the paths of this cretan design and when the flames die down, the labyrinth has been set for further use.

This labyrinth ritual celebration comes from the area of Carmarthenshire in the western part of Wales in the United Kingdom. It reminds us of the important nature of ritual as when languages are not understood between people, ritual is the dedicated practice that provides us with a communication all can understand. Our experience of this year is to continue finding the ways to delve into the inner world of our own truth and like this labyrinth ritual ceremony, the flames with shine brightly to etch the way for us from our intention and belief, walking the path once it has been blessed and set keeps the intention and discoveries bountiful.

On this 195th day…
Explore your relationship with rituals, practices, intent as your fuel and how your dedication of steps carries your message forward.

World Wide Explorations in the Month of July 2018 for the TLS 365 Experience. Part II
Welcome July!

Our exploration this month is to Walk in reflection of our direction. We traveled from America’s west coast to Australia, Asia and the Swedish Lapland’s and found our centered point in Austria by the month’s end. July will complete our world walk and return us to American shores. It’s been a wild and wooly time of exploration in the world to expand our cultural and connective perspective of the labyrinths and their purposes worldwide. This is indeed the global course in Labyrinthing with world wondering discovered in our wandering.
This month, we return from our center in Austria and traverse the world.

  1. Go Global….Explore the World
Investigate the world wonders of labyrinth design that are unique and different. From the permanent structures that are built to the canvas portable unique designs or the finger labyrinths that inspire a different walk, share the images at the 365 Experience on the TLS website and provide some detail and share your thoughts. Note how these designs are  outside the box of traditional design and how they might take us outside the design we’ve been living in.  They can be quite diverse or small simple adjustments that make it different too. From Austria to Portland… the second half begins!
  2. Grow Local…. Bring the World to you
Let your walks, programs, designs, creations and simple enthusiasm be inspired by what the world offers us with fresh ways to create new experiences in the 30 days of this month. If it is doing something different each day, walking a new labyrinth, designing, researching or some new way to share, do it then share it with us! By becoming acquainted with the unique labyrinths of the world, we can be inspired as to why they are different, how they serve and what they offer on the same path we walk on in our home or local community area. What will you have created by the end of our month?
  3. Join the online  Mid Month Dialogues Call on Friday July 15th at 2pmPST
Be curious, research and share what you know of unique world labyrinths in the first half of the month and apply something that you find unique to your own life walk. May Day

Day 121: May 1
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Maypole labyrinthThe May flowers promised by April showers have arrived this month in the honest expression of celebration, appreciation and realization. On this first day of may we celebrate the dance of the Maypole and its ancient message of fertility. May we enjoy an abundance of prosperity and reap fertile new growing edges of appreciation as we dance each step in this month of 31 days to explore our own appreciations and the realizations that offer us celebrations.

The labyrinth is a wonderful backdrop for a dance of the Maypole as each who take hold of a ribbon can have a way of winding the pole with intentions of celebration. Having participated and led a Maypole dance on the labyrinth, lively music adds a spring to the step and when each participant stands round the labyrinth with ribbon and proceeds in their walk, the weaving ribbon makes a colorful decorative appreciation for the Maypole. It is spirited and joyful and with intentions of sowing the celebration of life into the walk, the experience can leave everyone light hearted and mirthful.

On this 121st day…
Set your intention to celebrate this month and observe the weave of your own ribbon’s journey in your steps through the labyrinth.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization
May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

In the Beginning

Day 23: January 23
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

In the beginning, there is a point of intention, though sometimes we don’t always notice it. We want to walk, practice or just be in the experience and so we come to the walk in whatever way that serves us knowing, though not always knowing the truth that sits with us. We may ask a question and have clarity around it and walk to discover, though in that beginning moment the answer is already understood.

The walk serves to support, open and supply us with evidence that helps us to open and realize more perspective or reason beyond any doubts we might be questioning.

The walk we take helps us to believe more in our own ideas, abilities and inspirations. Each step becomes a clarity of purpose and the more we are open to it, willing and ready, the more likely what is at our beginning can be more visible to us in the ending. Our walk exercises our belief, truth and trust in what we know and in our own way, we find out the subtle honest nuances of who we are and what we are capable of in the steps we take.

Today’s walk in the desert was realized in the steps taken, solidified in the turns made and transitioned into a trust in reaching  the center as a place of holding space.  It deepened with perspective and materialized in the facets of realization that now sparkled with variety by the time the walk came to a close. At the end what was true in the beginning  remained and what accompanied it was an honest evaluation of its full value.

A suggestion to walk with:

How is your beginning more realized at the end?

TLS 365 Experience 2018: The Year of Living Honestly
Whether it’s a daily walk, teaching others, sharing an experience, expressions of art, building or design, we explore the questions of what brings us to honesty in our use of the labyrinth.

In a world of emerging truth, the labyrinth is a great experience to discover more of what is right and true about ourselves and humanity. Join us in sharing the honest moments it reveals.

Daily unfolding the process:

Walking the Months

TLS 365 Experience #284
December 9, 2017

December brings end of the year busy activities and often I’ve waited til the last week of the month to truly evaluate the year, it seems rather rushed. Instead, I’ve taken to walking the labyrinth in consideration of a full month at a time, beginning with January.

Then in the next walk, I contemplate the next month, February and so on. In this way I make 12 walks during the month to review with a simple set of questions. What did I intend for the month before it began? I walk in with this question in mind to understand my hopes and dreams. As I reach the center I ask what did I accomplish, without any focus on what I didn’t. As I return I reflect on how it all mattered, appreciating what I received, what I became and what more I was able to do.

I would journal a bit after each of these walks and then would look at all my notes before walking once to appreciate the fullness of the year.

The Intensity of Intention

TLS 365 Experience #201
September 17, 2017

I wasn’t sure what makes one experience more significant than another on the labyrinth, except for possibly the intensity of my intention. Some walks just create ideas and some walks solve an issue or situation. The common factor in either, is in how I am present to the experience. I notice that I move either into a walk with intention to begin it, or walk in a mode of discovery, observing or realizing what comes forth as I do.

As the path progresses, intensity arrives to comprehensively listen more deeply into the experience. I become aware of how much more intently I observe and notice when I walk without intention, as if there would be clues I might miss if I did not.   When I do have a purpose or intention, this point drives what prevails and my awareness into a more significant and appreciable moment of understanding and purpose.

In walking, I realized that intention is always present and choosing to have something in mind or not is an intention. The intensity is fueled by my curiosity and desire to know.

Candles of Commitment

TLS 365 Experience #174
Aug. 21, 2017

365 Club Annual Gathering Welcome Walk 2015 IndianaLeading the former 365 Club Welcome Walk at the Gathering one year, I asked each participant to take a candle off the table that resembled the size of their ability to commit. It allowed each to be honest with themselves and to consider a healthy perspective about what they wanted to achieve and the time they wished to devote to the daily experience they wished to keep.

It helped because it wasn’t a measurement of competition, rather a dedication to what each wanted to accomplish in being a part. Some candles were tall, others were thick and the variety helped all to find the right fit for their commitment. Like the stories that were shared when we were independently connected online and in email, lighting the candles off of each other reminded how the flame of any good intention continues and as we completed the experience, the sharing confirmed a call for what our existence was all about.

Annually we can dedicate, connect and confirm, though the message was clear, keeping the light alive was up to the sharing from one to another.

The Intuitive Walks

TLS 365 Experience #78
May 17, 2017

In this quarterly focus of education, the idea of what the labyrinth offers for the intuitive nature is a life education of what we have within. The way of the path provides a walk into possibility, the moment we engage with our first step. Not always, but often a question is asked at the beginning. It is an intention for meaning of the walk, though with the relaxation that takes place in brain and body, what can come forth is an internal knowing along with an understanding that can direct us to the details that come along with that intention.

I find when I walk as a practice, I develop more of my knowing and growing intentionally and intuitively.
