This morning began early with a Middle school audience whose Principal is instituting rocket fire change in a great way for students. As a result our group of presenters were welcomed heartily, musically serenaded and found students ready and prepared for our visit asking great questions and absorbing information with eager fascination. On the surface it seemed a welcome change for an inner city school, though as one in the spotlight to create success in this rapid way, it also appeared that with all the progress and technology promised for improvement, there was a lot of performance to consider from students. In their worthwhile efforts a few left turns may create what’s right.

This concept may have been further expressed as in contemplation of putting a finger on the pulse of the experience, a missed turn occured on the way home. What was realized was that by staying on the path ahead, a labyrinth existed in a park on the left. Slipping off the thoroughfare and into the parking area, the labyrinth resided quietly nestled into the far edge of this interesting diversion of busy main streets. This particular labyrinth is well maintained, clean and appreciably landscaped, and it sits just beyond a playground area for children. It is also a park where many homeless citizens frequent and are found talking, resting, sleeping and gathering. On this day there were quite a number present;  all content with their own perspective and undisturbed by a walker’s simple journey.

The irony of the care, cleanliness and maintenance of the park area and the known condition of homelessness may seem to contrast, though like the calm in-between the busy streets and earl morning’s School Principal’s method; the city has found a way to create appreciation for its contrary realization. Those interesting turns of life that don’t seem to be at first right, can work out best for all concerned and give cause for the greater outlook to be a winning celebration.  Just when we think we know the ending, a turn and a twist occur in our perspective and we might well discover something larger occuring in the labyrinth of life.  Celebrate the left and right turns and appreciation may turn into realization… or realization turns into appreciation.
