Day 4

January 4, 2019
Month of Beginnings
Quarter of Consciousness
Let’s Walk the World, a focus of contribution

  1. For Today’s Walk:
Where do you find places to begin, is it always at the traditional beginning?
  2. For Today’s Experience:
Explore the spaces in the places that are your beginnings.
  3. Share Today:   Share your message
When we collectively offer the ways to begin, someone sees a new idea, thought or experience to enjoy. Today, share images, art, ideas, designs, tips, facilitations, building strategies, ideas from your book, poems, teachings, etc.

Today’s Experience:

New England Wooded LabyrinthMy favorite way to walk the labyrinth is barefoot, especially when the temperature remains above 60F and there is soft moss on the ground. Our intentional co-housing community has an enchanting wooded labyrinth that can be found on the Worldwide Labyrinth Locator.

I am fortunate to live so close to it and walk the path every day when the weather is warm enough. I have built quite an intimate relationship with this space and love basking in the freshness of nature there! When the birds sing, my spirit sings, too! When I sit on the bench at the center to meditate, I am always delighted with visits from squirrels, chipmunks and a gardener snake once in a while.

The labyrinth keeps me centered, and at the center, I usually complete my daily Reiki practice. Even before I began working with Reiki energy, I have been drawn to completing rituals or meditations that honor the elements and/or the kingdoms of the natural world at the center. I can feel the peaceful, accepting spirit of the space surround me as I complete those rituals. As I return to the outside world, I usually carry with me some insight about my life and the path I am meant to walk.

A Route Beyond Routine

Day 313  November 9
In The Year of Honest Living
In The Quarter of: Contribution
In The Month of: Grateful Pathways

Week Two: Grateful

The idea of grateful in the realm of great and full moves us beyond the route we normally take to the state of a natural path. It is in our nature to expand and explore. Over time this has evolved the human race and understanding of our planet, the cosmos and the innate nature of our existence. To wonder and be curious is inbred and drummed out in pursuit of the routine. It’s why we want to walk on the wild side now and again, just to remember who we are. To hold the greatness of our reality, how can we not be in gratitude for it? To explore our natural path is to recognize the size of our immense opportunities and the fullness it brings.

The Letter R with Labyrinth Inscription
R is for Realization

To realize is to recognize from a cognitive perspective as well as a body minded acknowledgement. It is to wholly come into what we make effort to create. Gratitude is that largeness of realization with cherished acknowledgement.  To design, create, build or develop a contribution of labyrinth awareness, education, application or contribution is to realize.

Daily Insights : On this 313th day…
Focus on the realizations that offer themselves in your walk, how does gratefulness raise?

November’s Focus

Banner Image of Grateful Pathways for November 365 Experiences

Week Two Focus: GRATEFUL

In discovering the elements of gratitude, thanks is an expression we use to communicate our sense of what we hold gratitude for. Explore the ways Thanks is communicated this week on the labyrinth in daily walks, group facilitation, program creation, offerings, artwork, illustration and design, building canvas or permanent designs, books written or poetry created. However you find thanks as the path, on the path or of the path you are on… how is it expressed?

    • Personal: consider the ways of your own personal adventures and use.
    • Associations: contemplate the ways of use with friends, family, and relationships or other acquaintances.
    • Environs: realize the community uses, organizations, landscapes encountered.
    • Global: imagine the ways that what you do reaches others in the world environs.

Share and become part of history and her story…

Consider the topic with the ways you currently use the labyrinth for self or sharing with others:

• Personal Walk
• Group Walk, Program, Workshop, Education, etc.
• Designs, Artwork, illustrations, photos of labyrinth you walked, etc.
• Building concepts, tips, techniques, design ideas, etc.
• Personal Development, Guidance, Growth orientation, etc
• Writing, poetry, creations, installations, etc.
• Learn something new about yourself, others or the labyrinth this month.

Re Uniting with Loved Ones in Ceremony

Day 238 August 26
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: States of Being United

The image of the stone labyrinth at Sacred Grove

The stone labyrinth of Sacred Grove in Webster, WI. Photo Credits: Sacred Grove LTD

In the far reaches of the north western edge of Wisconsin is the town of Webster, of which 10 acres is set aside for an area known as Sacred Groves. The area is full of natural wonder and with the implantation of the labyrinth almost 20 years ago, the purchase of the land surrounding it by a local couple, allowed them to create a nature sanctuary open to all.

One of the unique features of this labyrinth and the Sacred Groves is the idea of a greener way to appreciate ceremonials of bereavement, calling them Cremains. Burial sites for the cremated remains of loved ones or the scattering of ashes are allowed in the Sacred Groves. They also provide ritual walks with the labyrinth for ceremonies of closure and life celebration. It is a healthy way to appreciate the end of life in quiet honor and respect.

The labyrinth shaped state of Wisconsin image
The labyrinth itself is a large  12 circuit path of stone borders that sits nestled at the forest edge, allowing for serenity and quiet in the sanctuary setting. It is a wonderful place to reunite one’s self with nature, and with the ceremony and ritual of closure, it’s remote location offers privacy in a sacred way to actively release to unite in a whole new way with loved ones.

The stones become a primitive and basic use of land to form the labyrinth and a reminder in a sacred way that each stone is a piece of the larger mantle of Earth we all exist upon.

Daily Insights : On this 238th day…
Explore a walk in ritual and ceremony of what is sacred to you today.

Building Paths of United Insights

States of United August Focus Banner Image
Opportunities for August

As we traveled the globe in search of exploration and returned with an abundance of realizing the consecutive connectives of the world in June and July, we touched the mere surface of our planet through the eyes of the labyrinth.  In the month of August, we continue the explorative nature looking for what insight brings us to unite. It can be a  discovery of the united purpose that we connect with others, or in the way we bring who we are with what we can and want to do.  What August brings is a focus of how the labyrinth brings state of being united, within ourselves within the United States. Send along the labyrinths, programs, art, and offerings within the United States that you feel best represents this for daily postings.

  1. What Unites
Reach out and share the unique labyrinths in this month within the United States that serve to unite. We look for the unique design, interesting purpose, connected message, in the labyrinth or in the ways we share with others in message or program, art, design and education applied. Share your ideas, programs, purpose images and experiences at the 365 Experience on the TLS website providing some detail of why you design, share, create, build or simply walk, who benefits and how it helps us unite. Personal insight or National perspectives are welcome.
  2. What brings Insight
As we take each day of the 31 available in August exploring what brings us insight with our selves or as a nation through the paths of the Labyrinth.  This quarter focuses on the ways we apply the insight we gain and as we are united with our own insights, may we use them as well in a way that unites us personally and also purposefully with others as a nation united.
  3. Join the online  Mid Month Dialogues Call on Friday August 15th at NOON PST
Be curious, research and share what you know of unique United States labyrinths, the people, the programs, the designs, the resources or simply the desires in the first half of the month and apply something that you find unique to your own life walk. Join us on the Mid Month Dialogues to share what you discovered, ask questions and hear from others about what they explored and discovered. Barefoot Surrender

Day 127: May 7
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

The Bench in the middle of the labyrinth, New EnglandStep into a barefoot experience with Karen S. of New England:

My favorite way to walk the labyrinth is barefoot, especially when the temperature remains above 60F and there is soft moss on the ground.

Small celebrations of the day!

On this 127th day…
Celebrate nature’s goodness with a barefoot walk, where permissible. A finger walk with total surrender can also give a tactile experience outdoors with the surround sound of nature.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization
May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

Earth Integrity

Day 24: January 24
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

To hear the story of creation from Jeffrey Bale is to hear an honest man’s endeavor for truth. Sharing the story of the creation of the Islandwood Labyrinth in Washington State,  Jeffrey shared the respect for nature honoring each stone for its significance and placement in the thousands he instilled into the heartfelt crafting of his design. Honoring where each element came from and thankful for their participation in the humble beauty of his art, it gave participants a deep regard for the single placement of their feet upon the pathways.

The sheer quantity of stone and story that poured into this design will remain a historical element of unassuming  wealth borne of the artistry of one man’s relationship with the integrity of nature’s gifts. Its natural abundance comes in the humility of its design and its modest residence nestled just off the roadway trailing down a very short distance to discover a serenity in seclusion amidst the lineage of tall trees.

One does not often encounter such a deep and abiding honor of an encounter with Earth and art in this way. It’s memory will live long and its meaning will live into a higher regard in the way of development and creation for myself and most likely those fortunate enough to have experienced the venerable honesty of this artist’s message and mission.

A suggestion to walk with:

Focus upon where and how you use your Earth this day.

Labyrinths In Life

TLS 365 Experience #132
July 10, 2017

Labyrinth sewer coverWhen your focus is about the labyrinth, they seem to show up everywhere. From the simple Greek Key design to a fully walkable permanent design;  we can find them in society and nature.

The geometric shapes become more plentiful and seem to be represented in pattern and fabric and over the years I have found them in the most interesting of areas and places I wouldn’t really expect.

Meanders in nature and design, clothing and architecture are really more common than we might think. Look up, look down they are all around.

Walking With The Body

TLS 365 Experience #83
May 22, 2017

I walk a lot.
I like to walk.
When I am on a long walk in nature it is a fabulous thing to be reminded of how natural we truly are. There is a sense of naturalness that I relate to as I walk the labyrinth.

As I move inward in a spiraling way and recognize the shifts in the turn that occur on my journey inward, I recogize the natural way our body flows. The brain and the belly each wind themselves inward to a central location, though along the way there are these turns that seem to take slighly different directions, only to return again moving inward. The fingerprints navigate in the same manner as does the fine circuitry of our inner ears, though looking at the design in our outer ear makes for wonder as well.

When we look more closely at the body design, there is much to indicate that it’s natural operation is very labyrinth in nature. So when I do place my foot upon the path to begin a walk and focus on the whole of my body, I find that everything about me is alert to the steps I take in a most natural way.

The Notice of Nature

TLS 365 Experience #43
April 12, 2017

One of the joys of walking outdoor labyrinths is that some aspect of nature presents itself in such a way that your attention is captured and questions arise.

For example, a twig with two pine cones crossed my path, followed shortly thereafter with a single pine cone that was half-trampled. Metaphors bounced around in my head as I contemplated a difficult relationship that stymied me.

I carried the pinecones home as the prompt for serious soul-journeying where decisioning became clear and flowed easily. Were it not for the walk, would I have so effortlessly dissected the issues and clarified my perspective?

Also often, in the walk I am accompanied by birds, rabbits, ants, cats, hawks, ravens, etc., all of whom provide reminders to be here now and pay attention.

Absorbing the Labyrinth

Hopefully all these ways that I am finding our of value to all of you. In the spirit of moving differently we are also moved differently in cognitive and socio emotional and spiritual ways too. How we are moved in the end might have something to do with how we also moved differently. The story of Insanity is to do the same thing repetitively and expect a different outcome.

The interesting things that are found when moving in different ways are as vast and varied as our minds would care to conceive as it can be something very small and seeming insignificant, or something life changing… it is all about looking for it.

AmazeME labyrinth

The AmazeMe Labyrinth

I came across this image online where the “AmaZeME” Labyrinth was created in a New York Library. Where the term labyrinth is often used loosely in literature to describe a maze or some kind of endless loops of confusion, the truth is that on every journey there is an education and something to absorb.

Imagine the volumes of books, periodicals and media substance that went into the piles and piles of material used to create it. Then imagine being able to simply open to received the variety of materials as you made your way along the path.

The labyrinth affords us that opportunity everyday. Just being open and ready to allow the walk to upload into our existence we can be that much more aware of the very nuances of the simple acts of nature, threads of purpose or what is drawn to the path. Simply using the word “absorb” we suggest a simple idea to draw into and deepen the meaning…at least for today.

I absorbed and it was the wind that I noticed. Mostly because it was subtle and light. It was the gentle exchange between movement and non movement throughout. At one point I simply stopped and listened and in the listening I let go and allowed the wind to direct me noting where on my body it directed and the course it plotted. It meant I didn’t walk all the paths and instead charted a new one. It made all the difference in my day and was a strong message for me about something that felt forced.

A deep breath with ahhhh – ha at the end,

Lynda
