A Path of Metaphor

TLS 365 Experience #108
June 16, 2017

Metaphors become simple realizations on the labyrinth.

The walk of the labyrinth offers awareness with a  glimpse of perspective, and as we continue on each step has a way of bearing proof and an easier acceptance. We can’t really hide from ourselves on the labyrinth, our truth has a way of showing up. In the metaphor, however the truth becomes a gentle suggestion and the path provides time and reinforced direction to comprehend and appreciate.

Where people aren’t always able to tell us the truth, the labyrinth has the metaphor that helps us to be grateful for it.

Full Circle

TLS 365 Experience #104
June 12, 2017

I had walked the labyrinth for years independently enjoying my experience before sharing it with others. I know what I felt, though like many researched, read and discovered the many nuances and fascinating perspectives over time. Somehow each little bit of information made the experience that much more significant and it seemed like this pattern held both simplicity and complexity.

When I was asked to share the experience, it was for a change of seasons and a change of direction. Somehow I just knew what I would share as we are always about change on the labyrinth, and always moving in new directions.  I assembled quotes of so many that had walked before with perspectives of each walk and very simply asked each to embrace the change each felt from path to path and start to finish. The nervousness disappeared when I invited each to the experience as I didn’t need to do anything but allow each to walk their way and discover as I had.

Our talk that followed was full of rich and appreciable stories and sharing. I found it an incredible honor to share what I deeply related to and discover some of the same messages I had experienced over time being repeated in this circle of individuals. I realized this is what it meant to come full circle… on this circle of steps.

The Path and Process

TLS 365 Experience #89
May 28, 2017

One of the ways I educate with the labyrinth, is in the process of getting ready for something. Before we begin any great project, a chance to ask some important questions and to learn to listen for the answers.

It teaches when we walk as everyone has to learn to negotiate their space, learn to adjust and listen and because we are typically a group in the project, learn the value of consensus. Everyone learns to appreciate and accept pace because everyone’s individual step can fuse into a collective stride.

As we come to a close,  I build in a walk at the project completion for reflection of the learning in the process at the end. The overall understanding really brings a fullness to the experience as it helps everyone to gain perspective of their individual experience as well as the group and often there tends to be a larger form of overall acceptance in each other as a result.

Welcome March… Discover

St. GilesCripplegate of London    Light after Dark Program

At the beginning of the year there were 12 words that appeared on the New Year’s walk and kept in the order they appeared, Discover was the third on the list. This month is then about discovery.  Discovery can be the simple and honest truths that appear on the path before us or the questions of life that lead to answers. There is perspective on the path to appreciate; and discovery is one item among the many that can lead to presence and purpose.

March is a month of change where the winds blow it in naturally and relieve the Earth of debris in some areas, where it moves to settle into others. Take notice of what lands in your life at any time this month and perhaps take it in as a message of movement to make purposeful or simply to blow away.

Discovery is found when we are present and paying attention and whether your eyebrows rise up in surprise or you skeptically investigate with furrowed brow, the activity means that you are indeed engaged in the process. Perhaps as you walk, you take notice of your brow and discover what results you get in relation to the tiny hairlines that converge to protect what the eyes see. Engage in discovery and let your path shine purpose.

Perspectives at your fingertips

Perspective at your fingertipsSeptember brings us into the fall season in a peaceful and easy process. It isn’t until the end of the month that we begin to feel the change of seasons, though we know it is looming. Ever since we were children, the end of the school season was marked at Memorial day and the beginning was marked at Labor Day in September. It doesn’t matter that we are long away from the school setting for most, it still holds a time to begin anew and be reminded of the end of our carefree days of summer.

It tends to breed the possibilities of new beginnings, of new chances and a way to take on the fall as if it were the start of our calendar year. Every month offers that possibility and as this month begins, where will we put our best foot forward as if all were waiting for us to simply begin?

The labyrinth allows us to say goodbye as well as hello. Perhaps we want to begin our month by saying goodbye and appreciating something we once had. Others want to forge ahead onto the path looking at what lies before us while still others prefer to pave the path themselves, creating each step with a new whim of personal decision.

Let September bring forth the perspectives, possibilities and promises that we wish to walk into each day with. Ask questions of this month and listen deeply for the answers. Share your gains with others and intently take a roll in each part of the path you encounter… as if each place held a different point of view or purpose.

April Showers

labyrinth lessonsAs a new month begins we are again at the opportunity of fresh beginnings and in this month known as the month that brings rain, let it be one that relates to our walk in the release, rinse and refreshing of our souls. Shake off the months of Winter and begin with a fresh cleanse to wash away any of the left over so that the Spring’s washing allows for a soul stepping smartness into the month well.

From wise souls we learn to release, letting go of what we were holding onto knowing that anything true will be available, allowing the myths to dissolve without support. In the labyrinth we release all to discover what is necessary and as we begin this month, cleanse with the season to release.

All that is true and purposeful will have a bright and shiny perspective beaming when the rains lift. Enjoy life as a fish does, flowing with the stream of infinite possibilities.

Day Twelve… a Trio of Possibility

12DaysOfLabyrinthsPlay along in December, any 12 days or just make it last all month. Today’s post moves beyond the simple preparations into the action of the game itself. Read The Game and How to Play in the link below to follow along. Then send along comments of your experience.
The Game and How to Play
Preparations…12 Things that Matter
Preparations…12 Gifts, Talents or Abilities
Preparations…12 People of Influence
Day 1  l  Day 2 l Day 3 l Day 4 l Day 5 l Day 6
Day 7 l Day 8 l Day 9 l Day 10 l Day 11

On the twelfth day of Labyrinths… and the first day of Christmas, there seems a noble twist with very little left on my list. Only the concept of travel, a curious new labyrinth and the importance of an ex comes together on this last of the game of 12 days.

It was indeed quite a task to come to an ending for this last day. Perhaps I just didn’t want it to close and maybe in between the eve and the after walks of Christmas, there was a richness of thought and feeling. In a short couple of weeks I journey back home, so there is much that comes to mind and heart and the closer to closure, the more uncertain certainty becomes.

IMG_4700I had planned to walk the labyrinth located out at a nursery on the outskirts of town, though found with the holidays that their schedule of availability diminished and wasn’t at all sure if they would be open based on a few mixed messages. I had thought to end the year and the game with the idea of growing and a garden center seemed the ideal place to plant some seeds and nurture ideas. The unsettled feeling of their hours of availability had me seeking alternatives to this idea.

IMG_4669As I asked the question of what labyrinth, my eyes landed on a foam core board and the vision labyrinth of one of the workshop participants from the week before. We had the opportunity to meet days after the visioning workshop, and one young man who had been impressed came up to me with a gift of  an internationalized word labyrinth. A simple three circuit design where he cut out words from magazines and pasted them as the borders.

IMG_4701He wanted me to have it and was going to make another because he was so inspired. I hadn’t realized how metaphoric it was until I sat down and moved my fingers around on it. I stopped every so often and my fingers pointed to a word or landed on an expression that spoke volumes. I began to realize how many things came together to form an idea and marveled at how it all related.

The only problem was that this labyrinth was only three circuit and was short and my thoughts wanted to travel. While I enjoyed this experience I began to realize that maybe some automatic writing might help and so I opted to utilize an idea I developed for retreats. I drew out a classical design and put my pen down at the beginning and began to write moving inward spiraling and turning my hand until I reached the center where the writing gave way to realization and instead of the reflection of 2014, I was projecting ideas for 2015.

IMG_4703The reflective return writing led me to consider the travel I had in two month increments throughout the year, the places and purposes of the experiences and the metaphors of it all. This gave me enough time to consider the three elements of this walk and whether to use the first design or use the writing labyrinth design.

FullSizeRender-3 As the idea of travel was still present I ended up using a third labyrinth where the words became the path full of the intentions for projects, places and connections of 2015. So much was coming up that I wanted to find a way to record it memorably and in this way I could move my intentions forward with a simple regular finger walk, just like the vision board idea earlier. All found its way onto a page that happily created a great way to take all the thoughts that were filling my mind and transcribe them to a visual expression.

FullSizeRender-4What I realized was that I moved on three labyrinths today with the idea of travel, had opportunity for creative design and used the strengths and positive influence of my ex husband. We parted with graceful understanding so it is natural that he would have been a part of my year, even though we saw each other less in this year than in any year previous.

When I felt many messages with three labyrinths, I knew he would put his head down and forge ahead one foot in front of the other to come to a natural ending point or conclusion. When I had much to say and used the writing labyrinth, I remembered that the labyrinth could be a good listener like he was and absorb the conversation, knowing I only required a sounding board. The final labyrinth illustrated a way to simply create a list that put a little fun in the functional way it could be used and while this was not at all like my ex, it did remind me of the personal choices I made and my mission in all more purposefully.

In many ways these 12 days have been playful and creative, a game like experience in seeking out and exploring to educate, and a great reflection of appreciation of the year past with a few glimpses into the year ahead.

My focus for today had been traveling, with creativity and innovation as my ability and my ex as a person of influence. What I realize from this trio of labyrinths is that I did some traveling on different paths that held different answers for different questions. I remembered and developed different paths creatively and used the strengths of someone of influence to me to bring perspective with purpose more fruitfully.

Just when I began to feel as if I had missed the bigger picture, it displayed itself in varied form using three labyrinths with three perspectives each unfolding to one purpose.

On this day of closure, I am satisfied with the experiences and know that each was a lesson of purpose just like this game was intended.

Seasonal Shifting

Today marks the 101st post to our site… YAY!

Rain Forest Labyrinth

A Private Labyrinth in the El Yunque Rain Forest of Puerto Rico

While the walk is daily, the posts are random and seem to flow with the ebb and tides of my year’s perspective. Running at one pace and almost standing still at others. An interesting year of abundance and absence to reflect on in the daily walk.

It seems to flow with the tides of weather as our region has been besieged with storms and flooding that has gone far beyond the realms of Spring when we might naturally know this to occur. The weather and my pace of the year seem to go hand in hand and from what is shared, is much the same for others too.

It is interesting to stop and make notice of what nature is telling us, almost as if it has had enough of us humans and all we mindlessly do to disrupt the natural flow. The uprisings of the natural world are simply a reminder to what we create artificially in the name of advancement and growth, giving us perhaps a chance to have a look and see if what we are doing is truly advancement and a contribution to the world.

As the year progresses, perhaps there can be a bit of balance inserted, one that gives the busy pace a chance to pause for reflection. Maybe then the natural world will find some balance too and find its pace in the hum and buzz of this human world, the one that seeks to find the steps from normal to natural.

May we walk in the sunshine and cleanse in the rain

It’s all in the Reflection

We have three suggestions in the labyrinth and we know there is equal merit in the release as there is in receiving and between the two, once we have removed ourselves enough to simply be in concert, it is often the reflection that gives us the perspective of the answer.

Mirror Labyrinth

Jeppe Hein Mirror Labyrinth, London

In this last day of moving differently, not that I will ever stop now, enjoy this labyrinth of mirrors by Jeppe Hein. It is located in Chiswick Park in London.

This first image has a wall of interspersed mirro modules positioned in a circular fashion with more spiraling into the center for labyrinth effect. Though once inside there are many reflections and it is said that one is often wondering which reflection is the true one. What a great way to find the way through myth.

Hein Mirror Labyrinth

A different perspective on the Mirror Labyirnth

Hein creates “Frieze Art” which he uses to design illusion in the everyday. For an individual who would like to separate fact from fiction on the labyrinth, this may be an ultimate in design to do so.

This is a different season and a different angle to see more of the labyrinth style found in Hein’s Mirror Labyrinth.

This labyrinth either reminds me of the deceptive smoke and mirrors or the fun house, which ever attitude you take along in this location of mirrors, it is surely what will make the difference in the outcome.

May the last of the month reflect the days gone by as healthy and helpful for all.

On a different perspective that is more than likely all the same,

Gaining Perspective

In the eye of the beholder

There are days I am so amused by life, and today just happens to be one among the many!

I saw this image and thought….what will they think of next. I am sure you are looking at it about the same and probably are ready to click away wondering at the level of taste and audacity. Have heart… they are stickers, rolls of stickers!

I recall Lauren Artress words of “walk with soft eyes”, so lovingly and gently reminding us to find acceptance. If you have clicked off already, you have missed the opportunity and if you have stayed it is all about the opportunity.

I’ve been doing some work of late that has been opening the door to shifting perspective just a small degree and what a huge difference it does make. I assist with life perspective in my daily work and in coming upon this concept of very minor shifts I have changed a lot of what and how I do what I do gratefully.

Today isn’t so much about walking with the soft eyes, though always a great reminder, it is about taking a different perspective than what you first visualize. If we close our eyes I find we can see more, feel more and be more often. It is our habitual relationship with the seeing world that tends to diminish our other sensory faculties.

Today I walked the labyrinth blindfolded and sat for a while before I could feel the full presence of the labyrinth. At first it was a bit of a comedy act, though in a short time frame, I found myself becoming accustomed to where the path would end, turn and take a new direction. There is a subtle energy in this and soon I could feel where certain things began and ended.

A whole new way to experience the labyrinth, walk different and carry a big perspective,

Lynda in amusement
