Triple “E” Effect

Day 66: March 7
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Discover

The grace of the Euler spiral is in its elegant lines that begin with zero curvature at the origin and then arch outward to equalize the spirals diameter in proportion to its length. It defines the linear relationship between curvature and arc length. Leonhard Euler was a Swiss German mathematician, physicist, astronomer, logician and engineer. Accomplished on many levels he is revered as a leading mathematician of the 18th century and is the only mathematician to have two numbers named after him. The elegance of this spiral was formed to innovate the concept of elasticity and to mathematics. Euler’s spiral serves as the basis for Cornu’s spiral and serves as a solution to the practical purposes of a variety of operational elements, such as those related to Gamma, Gauss Error and Hypergeometric functions.  It’s value lays in its elegant design and variable application.  Mathematicians, artists and theorists agree, it is a beautiful visual element with great purpose.

In repeating its simple structure, it can become more, as in the depiction of this six petaled connection using three Euler spirals to inspire nature’s symmetry in floral petals appreciating the long arc and central connection that naturally apply form and function. It is in the message of this spiral and its perspective from the origin point of to the curvature developed on the way to its destination that reminds us of  more efficient ways to go from our own point A to point B. Today was such a walk in removing the unnecessary and staying the course of the curve to a more effective outcome. The practicality of the labyrinth is marvelous when we consider its natural elemental design.

It is an ease for complication and an inspiring triple treat in a design that applies what is Effective, Efficient and Elegant in its purpose.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 67th day…
What is most efficient and effective in your walk of today, what is necessary and what does not fit the scope of your destination?

March’s Focus

As it is now the third month of the year and our last month of growing awareness before we delve into the ways of education, allow this month be one that creates both the light hearted discovery and profound realization. How can you create more awareness with the labyrinth personally or in the ways you share with others? Where do you notice a spiral effect that takes you to the point or away from it? Be on the lookout for the spiraling nature this month.

  1. Realize
In the 31 Days this month offers, become aware of the daily realizations that you create and discover. Walking daily creates compound interest in what you look forward to and discover each day. Let March become your month of expanded capacity as you walk to make each day and adventure in exploration of what more you can explore. Seek to spiral into new and inspiring realization and whether it is rich and profound or light hearted and amusing… be open, walk with intention and you are bound to come away larger.

2. Surprise
One can realize and find much in the depth of understanding that awareness offers us, though when we look forward to realization of that depth and awareness, it can inspire new ways of appreciation and discovery in both our  process and capabilities as we are constantly growing, no matter what age. Invite the element of  surprise into what you realize as it can lift what you discover into seeing a bit more than before.  Notice the spiral effect of how you move from realize to surprise and make discovery more significant and true.

Honest Amusement

Day 10: January 10
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

The Laffy Taffy LabyrinthLightening the past few days with a little levity, the cleaning out of storage provided an opportunity of design. Finding a large bag of Laffy Taffy that was used in annual parades and events, the now hardened candy could provide a new use in developing a sweet walk before it was tossed. An honest moment of creative fun defining practicality and usefulness in building a resource from what was available.  When the mind thinks in labyrinths, everything is fair game.

While this was only a small design with 67 pieces of candy, there was enough to create a life sized walk as well.

A suggestion to walk with:

Discover amusing real moments in your walk and reflections.

TLS 365 Experience 2018: The Year of Living Honestly
Whether it’s a daily walk, teaching others, sharing an experience, expressions of art, building or design, we explore the questions of what brings us to honesty in our use of the labyrinth.

In a world of emerging truth, the labyrinth is a great experience to discover more of what is right and true about ourselves and humanity. Join us in sharing the honest moments it reveals.

Daily unfolding the process:
So far we have a daily blog and an unscheduled mid month podcast to explore the monthly focus. Share this week at: 365Experience@labyrinthsociety.org

Anatomy of a Question

TLS 365 Experience #200
September 16, 2017

When I walk the labyrinth, it is often to bring up thoughts, feelings, ideas and questions that are floating around inside of me and wish an external outlet. As I take steps onto the path I am headed inward and the awareness of my body, mind and soul alignment are brought to my attention.

Sensory perception awakens constriction and location.  The more steps that traverse the path inward, the more the emergence of emotion and logic that arise, observe without intrusion. The walking body negotiates the turns and sets the pace of function and as the application of movement spirals inwards traversing the pattern of back and forth, the gentle rocking of what is unimportant loosens and releases the unnecessary in the constriction.

By the time the center has been reached in the labyrinth, the falling away of what is not relevant reveals a true question from the former constriction. The question can now more uniquely fit to evolve circumstance. Knowing a true question, makes finding the walk of the answer one of application and allowance. The walk of reverse is where the additions become the discoveries and the journey to the answer is one of purposeful and practical curiosity.

Solution Path

TLS 365 Experience #156
Aug. 3, 2017

Getting a group on the labyrinth during a workshop was a wonderful way to get everyone connected.  I found a group that was just not connecting with each other in the material that was presented. As the material worked well with other groups, it was a question.

We had the thought to put everyone on the labyrinth and walk with a few questions. As they completed, we sat down for a discussion and found a very real cultural misunderstanding had occurred. Using the labyrinth helped everyone to understand the point, the process and the practical application as intended and also where the error in judgement had occurred without an issue.

If we had not thought to find a quick way to get everyone communicating in this way, we would have missed a valuable lesson into the cultural implication that had been misinterpreted. No one had a clue that this had not been part of our plan and without skipping a beat, we were back on the path of purpose and progress.

New Beginnings

TLS 365 Experience #154
Aug. 1, 2017

The first of the month is a great time for new beginnings to emerge. The newness of the calendar month takes me out onto the labyrinth and it is there that my deepest desires become internationalized. There is a great ease to consider that this direction is only for a month, and if each day I take another step, I have realized something valuable, useful and attainable in the span of thirty days or so.

Each day is like a new step I make on the first and on the last of the month is a great appreciation and reflection for accomplishment, no matter how large or small… just what I created. In this way, the steps I engage become both practical and magical and create a more thankful and life directed month.
