Weed Walking

TLS 365 Experience #171
Aug. 18, 2017

The labyrinth near me is not old, but older. It has weeds now that the warmer weather has come and there are a few rocks missing. Often there is something kicked out of place, so I know it is used, though not as well cared for. I never thought much about its condition, just that it was older, though now that the weeds have sprung up it appears there is no regular maintenance as I haven’t seen anyone in months.

I decided to simply care for it a little more each day when I came to walk, so began with the outer circle weeding half of it walking in and half walking out. The next time I worked on the next circle inward and the following week the next. By the time I had weeded to the center, still no one had come and some of the outer areas were beginning to grow back. I realized that this might be my simple ministry of weeding and walking and with regularity it could serve others as it served me to bring up ideas that I would like to release.

As the thought occurred, it seemed the whole nature of the walk was to become weedless, releasing any thought or distraction that occurred in my experience and just be with the experience.

Learning Service

TLS 365 Experience #165
Aug. 12, 2017

Having traveled the breadth and width of Illinois years ago on my own labyrinth tour, I discovered there were about eight labyrinths built by Boy Scouts who were each independently earning the highest distinction award of Eagle Scout by building a community labyrinth.  It surprised me that there weren’t any built by Girl Scouts here or that any had endeavored to develop this for their Gold Award. Though in understanding that their aren’t as many High School girls that stay in scouting as boys, it made more sense.

The Girl Scout labyrinth Project Illinois 2013So, years later when approached by a small group of Girl Scouts who were in eighth grade and High School, I was delighted to mentor them for a year before we actually built the labyrinth for our community.  It was an honor to help them understand how they might personally use it and where it could serve a community.

We held many sessions to learn and appreciate more about the value they were considering offering. While not for their Gold Award, they did receive a badge award for their dedication and service. As they became more familiar, they began searching location options, drawing community interest, securing materials and considering design and purpose. As they planned and prepared they drew in support and assistance and discovered requirements and ideas for what to do once implemented.

The building took only a well planned week to plot, dig, surface, lay materials and develop and in all, members of the community were on hand to service and support the project throughout cheering the girls efforts from start to finish. Happy to be a part, it was great to see community come forth to accept, appreciate and support the labyrinth and the young ladies who learned much about service in the process.

Adventure

TLS 365 Experience #150
July 28, 2017

Today I am headed on a road trip.

I often drive and sometimes across the country. One of the things I like to do is find where the labyrinths are along the way. Sometimes I divert a little farther than I plan, though it is always interesting to meet new labyrinths along the way. They have a story to tell that is unique to the purpose it was built for.

I think of it as a journey and an exploration that is a trip within a trip and where I can plot out its destination on a map, once on the labyrinth… I never know where it can take me.

Giving Care

TLS 365 Experience #129
July 7, 2017

I am a Caregiver.

No one realizes how intense this can be until they find themselves in the moments of it. It is a rather spontaneous adventure and one that calls us to attention in ways we didn’t think possible, though it is where we find the possible and what lies even beyond that.

The path of curves and circles represents much reminder of choice as I can appreciate the care I give to myself in a daily way. The everyday focus keeps me more than grounded; it offers wisdom, patience and a profound sense of purpose in a meaningful and peaceful message. Daily I am met with new experiences and insights into my self and the role of giving care and with every piece of education I receive, I can apply it more appreciably in the care of another.

The walk of the labyrinth’s many paths also provides a regular time for the care of me.

New Paths New Purpose

TLS 365 Experience #68
May 7, 2017

When I moved to a new state,  there was much that was new, and orienting to the community was different, job, purpose, home and family situation were all different too. Alone in a new area, how to begin was both an adventure and a bit daunting. Anything was possible, though habits and customs familiar didn’t quite seem to fit into all this newness.

The labyrinth was one thing that had given comfort in the past, so seeking out a community of other enthusiasts did not at first yield any prospects of people, though it turned up the labyrinths present. I began visiting the different sites, experiencing and communicating with the people who showed up. Soon, I found in the walking a sense of purpose unfolding, a sense of understanding this community and a sense of home slowly emerging. People became interested in what I had to share and made welcome space.

From those beginnings, others in like mind connected and my sense of newness began to fade. It was as if my pathways were filling with purpose and people and at the center was this labyrinth that had gracefully reminded me how to walk again and find my footing in a new world.

Start with Purpose

TLS 365 Experience #65
May 4, 2017
The Center Point of the LabyrinthIf I want to create a labyrinth, I start with the purpose.

I start at the center as the purpose will lead to the center and from there, and the paths will form keeping the intent in alignment.

Being human, we too, start with purpose from our center and all else forms the journey from here to there and back again.

Day Ten… Passion for Purpose

12DaysOfLabyrinthsPlay along in December, any 12 days or just make it last all month. Today’s post moves beyond the simple preparations into the action of the game itself. Read The Game and How to Play in the link below to follow along. Then send along comments of your experience.
The Game and How to Play
Preparations…12 Things that Matter
Preparations…12 Gifts, Talents or Abilities
Preparations…12 People of Influence
Day 1  l  Day 2 l Day 3 l Day 4 l Day 5 l Day 6
Day 7 l Day 8 l Day 9

On the tenth day of Labyrinths… I moved with Passion, mindful of a developing new path and the art of allowing it to unfold with purpose, grace and humble prosperity. Labyrinths unfolded like a resplendent repository of riches from my travels as I brought out a selection of wooden finger labyrinths and two canvas labyrinths to host a workshop.

IMG_4582I had planned to be on the West Coast looking after and visiting my Mom while sharing a few opportunities. A car accident short circuited many of my plans and turned my intentions around to realize a reflective period to foster self care and realize value. For the past seven weeks I have managed to allow a natural course to chart itself and while it sometimes felt as if it needed my input, when I remembered to step back, I was rewarded with a better answer than I might have conceived otherwise.

IMG_4584The workshop today was a manifestation of an easy conversation that filled a need on many levels. I was delighted at the opportunity to be working again, although what I do is hard to consider work, I would call it being purposeful and contributing again. Though without regular purpose,  I began to feel fidgety so I found a circle nearby to practice Reiki energetics with and in discovering that they wanted to create a day of vision boards, I smiled as I recall a blog post where I shared my innovative idea for vision boarding and labyrinths.

The Director loved the idea and so I brought a 20 foot classical canvas design made for the Hope Fest of 911 at the ten year anniversary. It had become a type of “graffiti” labyrinth that served to live on in hope, harmony and happiness for the life beyond. I have used it for several unique workshops and session walks. The small canvas petite Chartres design accompanied this workshop as well.

IMG_4587Each individual had just come from the healing circle so they were full of the love that accompanies such a gathering and into the workshop they carried themselves ready to dive into their vision. Explaining the labyrinths was a relatively easy and flowing process with each point similarly stretching a point and coming around to suggest ideas and helpful aids that might allow each to move into their walk with mission in mind.

IMG_4592An idea I had shared earlier this year was to place a plastic board over a vision board and inscribe a labyrinth on the plastic. On the earlier one, I had cut through the plastic board to forge the path. That design was back in the Midwest so I purchased a clear shower liner and with heavy marker outlined the design of a labyrinth on several large 20″ squares. When the vision boards were complete, the light plastic was placed on top the vision board so that each could activate their vision.

IMG_4591I shared how to draw a simple seed pattern, so that each might draw out their own on plastic and use them regularly to stimulate their vision. It was a rich sharing and a purposeful day filled with the creative passion that drives my purpose.

On this day of being in the passion with the purpose I thought of the inspiration of a new friend I met this year. She came along at a time that really made a difference for both of us. I offered her a service she sought, shared with joy and passion that she aligned with and since that time we have held that similar interest and love.

IMG_4590It reminds me that when we are passionate, we find purpose and in knowing each of these,  we step into the love of feeling connected. When we are fortunate to meet and appreciate others with similar personas and paths, we understand more of purpose with passion and we are grateful.

This was such a day that took me by the hand, appreciated the gifts that materialized, felt the passion and knew the purpose.
