The ARC Pathway

Day 150: May 30
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

The Three Fold Pathway Labyrinth by the Amused MuseOn the labyrinth the three fold path is a suggestion to release to receive and then reflect providing a wisdom of the R’s. They remind us of our busy mind and bring the labyrinth to task in providing the way for our way to prevail. Though what if we took the focus we’ve been using this month instead. Would it not elevate us from the condition of busy mind, that requires relaxing to hear our truth, to a curious mind that is ready and wants to use our truth?  For something new, we might want to explore the possibility of changing our approach to explore a different kind of outcome.

Just for today, let’s experiment a little with our busy minds. Lets use the trio of ideas presented this month and walk in different combinations to see what is a good fit and what brings a unique and useful outcome.  As you begin your walk, use a focus of appreciation and as you do realizations can come into your experience. Celebrate the realizations of the appreciations and you might just replace any need of having to release because you’ve increased your frequency to appreciate. We are innately born to appreciate and when we apply it the world looks differently and changes our realization to one that gives cause for celebration.

Experiment by walking in with celebration first and then notice your realization. It is likely that  appreciation is present in the outcome.  Experimenting by beginning with realization can sometimes lead us back to rationalization, and leaves both appreciation and celebration out of the equations. Explore and observe the catalyst reaction between appreciation, realization and celebration for yourself.  Awareness, education and application come into the arena and are part of our year long quarterly focus. If we can find more of it with this ARC approach, perhaps greater insights await us in what we can explore in the rest of the year.

On this 150th day…
Explore the walk of appreciation for realization and celebration then experience the walk of celebration for appreciation realization.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization

May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

Always Learning

TLS 365 Experience #278
December 3, 2017

Always Learning in the walking of a LabyrinthAs a facilitator of the labyrinth walk and education, there is something to learn in every offering or presentation. I am a continual student as it is a continual teacher. The first presentation of a walk I offered to a group of individuals was my first invitation to the real learning of the labyrinth. The presentation in Powerpoint was not able to play. The music for the walk skipped in the portable CD provided, people showed up late talking loudly, some walked in together instead of separately, and as one walked out she cursed the calmness, as she had many things to do on this day. This was one of the most wonderful experiences for those who attended and such a beneficial learning about what it offers us in release, surrender and to accept things as they are. Rights and Wrongs all end up taking a turn to a new direction on the labyrinth at some point, so after awhile if you are focused on what you came for, you don’t think about the right or wrong of anything, only the moment. Many years later, I learn something new each time I walk.

The Things We Carry

TLS 365 Experience #273
November 28, 2017

Playing games for realizing potential and understanding life, I took an exercise and applied it to the labyrinth at a conference. I asked each to bring all the things they came into the course with including coats, purses, laptops, notepads, books, bags, drinks, food, etc. Some had much to carry and some had a few had very little.

They began their walk with the things they carry and at any point, they were encouraged to put down what they did not want to carry any longer on the labyrinth.  Anything left on the labyrinth was fair game for another to pick up on their walk. Our only objective was to not leave anything on the labyrinth. As they completed their walks, each brought their new/old belongings to a circle and each created a story with the items they had in their possession around a given topic.

It was a fun and amusing experience as was the retrieval of possessions afterward. The conversation that followed led to some greater realizations about the things we carry, choices, and the creativity in spontaneity.

The Voice of the Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #229
October 15, 2017

Expressions on the labyrinth, a voice for the labyrinth. LAT2012Having painted the outline of a classical design onto a canvas cloth for a walk, I had intended to add other features after the walk completed. There was much in release and discovery in this walk that was offered and participants in the walk asked if they could inscribe their thoughts on the labyrinth.

It seemed like a good idea and though not what had been planned or considered for this labyrinth, it felt right to allow. People wrote messages of hope and inspiration. There was encouragement and truth and a heart that showed up in many places. Peace was a natural expression and the messages of the journey began to be inserted around the labyrinth.

Where I had ideas of what would be added to this, walking and allowing the process to unfold is a bigger and better teacher. Since that time of inscription, others have naturally been drawn to share something on this without being directed. This labyrinth has a voice and expressive quality and it allows what first came out of the experience to continue.

Keep Walking

TLS 365 Experience #208
September 24, 2017

I walk the labyrinth for many reasons: to release the stresses of the day, to work out knotty problems, to gain insights and ideas, to relax, to share in community, to heal my heart when it is broken.

The most powerful times seem to happen when I am lost, when I feel that somehow I have lost my way or can’t find my “next step.” The labyrinth reminds me that we can’t always see very far ahead, but that is fine because we are always on the path. It tells me that sometimes we have to backtrack, that inspiration is always available, and that I can find my way.

I just have to keep walking. It reminds me that I have to listen to my heart, that it always knows. In the center, I get inspiration and new paths to explore. When I walk out, it is a new journey.

Anatomy of a Question

TLS 365 Experience #200
September 16, 2017

When I walk the labyrinth, it is often to bring up thoughts, feelings, ideas and questions that are floating around inside of me and wish an external outlet. As I take steps onto the path I am headed inward and the awareness of my body, mind and soul alignment are brought to my attention.

Sensory perception awakens constriction and location.  The more steps that traverse the path inward, the more the emergence of emotion and logic that arise, observe without intrusion. The walking body negotiates the turns and sets the pace of function and as the application of movement spirals inwards traversing the pattern of back and forth, the gentle rocking of what is unimportant loosens and releases the unnecessary in the constriction.

By the time the center has been reached in the labyrinth, the falling away of what is not relevant reveals a true question from the former constriction. The question can now more uniquely fit to evolve circumstance. Knowing a true question, makes finding the walk of the answer one of application and allowance. The walk of reverse is where the additions become the discoveries and the journey to the answer is one of purposeful and practical curiosity.

Adjustments

TLS 365 Experience #153
July 30, 2017

Experimenting with groups, I asked one who were walking the labyrinth with me on this day to really take notice of the way they walked in the labyrinth and to be keenly aware of the labyrinth, their body movement and the way they took steps inward and outward. Then we walked again and I asked each to walk differently than the last person had, to adjust or change in a natural way the way they stepped in the labyrinth.

The conversation after the walk was rich. It made them more aware at first of the way they moved in life and where many held tension, it was released and noticed. Their was a greater appreciation in just becoming mindful in the first walk. In the second it became inventive and many found that they improved their walk by adjusting their posture and noting their bodies. Others found that they extended themselves in a way that was uncomfortable and adjusted throughout and others thought it playful.

Of the many epiphanies that were shared, the ones that were most moved realized how much they move themselves and their minds to adjust to please others. It became a metaphor of how we walk in life.

Where Does It Go?

TLS 365 Experience #117
June 25, 2017

I’ve learned to say thank you before and after my walk, and I have to think so many do this as well, as the gifts that come in the occupation are a blessing. I say thanks as well as I have to wonder where all that is left behind from a walk goes? People walk and release and what they each hold and let go becomes part of the labyrinth, maybe even for the next individual or group to experience.

With all those personal experiences filling the labyrinth, that is a lot to hold and quite a vessel to absorb. Maybe it’s like a black hole, fixed in time and space adding layers of experiences. Not so very unlike humans in this circle of giving and receiving it seems.
