The Voice of the Labyrinth

TLS 365 Experience #229
October 15, 2017

Expressions on the labyrinth, a voice for the labyrinth. LAT2012Having painted the outline of a classical design onto a canvas cloth for a walk, I had intended to add other features after the walk completed. There was much in release and discovery in this walk that was offered and participants in the walk asked if they could inscribe their thoughts on the labyrinth.

It seemed like a good idea and though not what had been planned or considered for this labyrinth, it felt right to allow. People wrote messages of hope and inspiration. There was encouragement and truth and a heart that showed up in many places. Peace was a natural expression and the messages of the journey began to be inserted around the labyrinth.

Where I had ideas of what would be added to this, walking and allowing the process to unfold is a bigger and better teacher. Since that time of inscription, others have naturally been drawn to share something on this without being directed. This labyrinth has a voice and expressive quality and it allows what first came out of the experience to continue.

Keep Walking

TLS 365 Experience #208
September 24, 2017

I walk the labyrinth for many reasons: to release the stresses of the day, to work out knotty problems, to gain insights and ideas, to relax, to share in community, to heal my heart when it is broken.

The most powerful times seem to happen when I am lost, when I feel that somehow I have lost my way or can’t find my “next step.” The labyrinth reminds me that we can’t always see very far ahead, but that is fine because we are always on the path. It tells me that sometimes we have to backtrack, that inspiration is always available, and that I can find my way.

I just have to keep walking. It reminds me that I have to listen to my heart, that it always knows. In the center, I get inspiration and new paths to explore. When I walk out, it is a new journey.

Anatomy of a Question

TLS 365 Experience #200
September 16, 2017

When I walk the labyrinth, it is often to bring up thoughts, feelings, ideas and questions that are floating around inside of me and wish an external outlet. As I take steps onto the path I am headed inward and the awareness of my body, mind and soul alignment are brought to my attention.

Sensory perception awakens constriction and location.  The more steps that traverse the path inward, the more the emergence of emotion and logic that arise, observe without intrusion. The walking body negotiates the turns and sets the pace of function and as the application of movement spirals inwards traversing the pattern of back and forth, the gentle rocking of what is unimportant loosens and releases the unnecessary in the constriction.

By the time the center has been reached in the labyrinth, the falling away of what is not relevant reveals a true question from the former constriction. The question can now more uniquely fit to evolve circumstance. Knowing a true question, makes finding the walk of the answer one of application and allowance. The walk of reverse is where the additions become the discoveries and the journey to the answer is one of purposeful and practical curiosity.

Adjustments

TLS 365 Experience #153
July 30, 2017

Experimenting with groups, I asked one who were walking the labyrinth with me on this day to really take notice of the way they walked in the labyrinth and to be keenly aware of the labyrinth, their body movement and the way they took steps inward and outward. Then we walked again and I asked each to walk differently than the last person had, to adjust or change in a natural way the way they stepped in the labyrinth.

The conversation after the walk was rich. It made them more aware at first of the way they moved in life and where many held tension, it was released and noticed. Their was a greater appreciation in just becoming mindful in the first walk. In the second it became inventive and many found that they improved their walk by adjusting their posture and noting their bodies. Others found that they extended themselves in a way that was uncomfortable and adjusted throughout and others thought it playful.

Of the many epiphanies that were shared, the ones that were most moved realized how much they move themselves and their minds to adjust to please others. It became a metaphor of how we walk in life.

Where Does It Go?

TLS 365 Experience #117
June 25, 2017

I’ve learned to say thank you before and after my walk, and I have to think so many do this as well, as the gifts that come in the occupation are a blessing. I say thanks as well as I have to wonder where all that is left behind from a walk goes? People walk and release and what they each hold and let go becomes part of the labyrinth, maybe even for the next individual or group to experience.

With all those personal experiences filling the labyrinth, that is a lot to hold and quite a vessel to absorb. Maybe it’s like a black hole, fixed in time and space adding layers of experiences. Not so very unlike humans in this circle of giving and receiving it seems.
