In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: States of Being United

In the far reaches of the north western edge of Wisconsin is the town of Webster, of which 10 acres is set aside for an area known as Sacred Groves. The area is full of natural wonder and with the implantation of the labyrinth almost 20 years ago, the purchase of the land surrounding it by a local couple, allowed them to create a nature sanctuary open to all.

One of the unique features of this labyrinth and the Sacred Groves is the idea of a greener way to appreciate ceremonials of bereavement, calling them Cremains. Burial sites for the cremated remains of loved ones or the scattering of ashes are allowed in the Sacred Groves. They also provide ritual walks with the labyrinth for ceremonies of closure and life celebration. It is a healthy way to appreciate the end of life in quiet honor and respect.

The labyrinth shaped state of Wisconsin image
The labyrinth itself is a large  12 circuit path of stone borders that sits nestled at the forest edge, allowing for serenity and quiet in the sanctuary setting. It is a wonderful place to reunite one’s self with nature, and with the ceremony and ritual of closure, it’s remote location offers privacy in a sacred way to actively release to unite in a whole new way with loved ones.

The stones become a primitive and basic use of land to form the labyrinth and a reminder in a sacred way that each stone is a piece of the larger mantle of Earth we all exist upon.

Opportunities for August

As we traveled the globe in search of exploration and returned with an abundance of realizing the consecutive connectives of the world in June and July, we touched the mere surface of our planet through the eyes of the labyrinth.  In the month of August, we continue the explorative nature looking for what insight brings us to unite. It can be a  discovery of the united purpose that we connect with others, or in the way we bring who we are with what we can and want to do.  What August brings is a focus of how the labyrinth brings state of being united, within ourselves within the United States. Send along the labyrinths, programs, art, and offerings within the United States that you feel best represents this for daily postings.

  1. What Unites
Reach out and share the unique labyrinths in this month within the United States that serve to unite. We look for the unique design, interesting purpose, connected message, in the labyrinth or in the ways we share with others in message or program, art, design and education applied. Share your ideas, programs, purpose images and experiences at the 365 Experience on the TLS website providing some detail of why you design, share, create, build or simply walk, who benefits and how it helps us unite. Personal insight or National perspectives are welcome.
  2. What brings Insight
As we take each day of the 31 available in August exploring what brings us insight with our selves or as a nation through the paths of the Labyrinth.  This quarter focuses on the ways we apply the insight we gain and as we are united with our own insights, may we use them as well in a way that unites us personally and also purposefully with others as a nation united.

Carrying the Ceremony Forward

Day 195  July 14
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Application
In The Month of: Exploration & Return

a seven circuit circular labyrinth in grass with the borders in flame.

Fire burning rituals in Wales. Photo Credits: Farm Life in Wales

The flames of this labyrinth are set to rise high and in doing so it is a ritual tradition of older locals to put a Life sized goddess totem  in the center.  As the flames begin to die down, the heartiest of the group attempt a walk along the paths of this cretan design and when the flames die down, the labyrinth has been set for further use.

This labyrinth ritual celebration comes from the area of Carmarthenshire in the western part of Wales in the United Kingdom. It reminds us of the important nature of ritual as when languages are not understood between people, ritual is the dedicated practice that provides us with a communication all can understand. Our experience of this year is to continue finding the ways to delve into the inner world of our own truth and like this labyrinth ritual ceremony, the flames with shine brightly to etch the way for us from our intention and belief, walking the path once it has been blessed and set keeps the intention and discoveries bountiful.

On this 195th day…
Explore your relationship with rituals, practices, intent as your fuel and how your dedication of steps carries your message forward.

World Wide Explorations in the Month of July 2018 for the TLS 365 Experience. Part II
Welcome July!

Our exploration this month is to Walk in reflection of our direction. We traveled from America’s west coast to Australia, Asia and the Swedish Lapland’s and found our centered point in Austria by the month’s end. July will complete our world walk and return us to American shores. It’s been a wild and wooly time of exploration in the world to expand our cultural and connective perspective of the labyrinths and their purposes worldwide. This is indeed the global course in Labyrinthing with world wondering discovered in our wandering.
This month, we return from our center in Austria and traverse the world.

  1. Go Global….Explore the World
Investigate the world wonders of labyrinth design that are unique and different. From the permanent structures that are built to the canvas portable unique designs or the finger labyrinths that inspire a different walk, share the images at the 365 Experience on the TLS website and provide some detail and share your thoughts. Note how these designs are  outside the box of traditional design and how they might take us outside the design we’ve been living in.  They can be quite diverse or small simple adjustments that make it different too. From Austria to Portland… the second half begins!
  2. Grow Local…. Bring the World to you
Let your walks, programs, designs, creations and simple enthusiasm be inspired by what the world offers us with fresh ways to create new experiences in the 30 days of this month. If it is doing something different each day, walking a new labyrinth, designing, researching or some new way to share, do it then share it with us! By becoming acquainted with the unique labyrinths of the world, we can be inspired as to why they are different, how they serve and what they offer on the same path we walk on in our home or local community area. Design of Sacred Union

Day 160:  June 9
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Exploration

The Sacred union Labyrinth by Robin Clayfield
The labyrinth has become a basis of union for the Woodford Folk Festival of Queensland. It was designed by Robin Clayfield in 2011 and has been used to bring the spirit of the feminine and masculine together. The Folk Festival creates its design with tributes and ritual each year and walk with the hope of strengthening relationships. Robin cites her inspiration from designer Mark Healy and whether an individual walks for better self understanding or couples walk intent on building more solid ground, the sacred message is in the way it unites two differences into one common thread in its special five circuit path design.

The Festival even takes place at the end of one year and extends into the beginning of another to bring the thread of continuation in its design. The festival adds pieces to the design over the length of the festival including archways, flowers and lights to bring a ceremonial feel to the reconnection of souls. As it is also used in marriage encounters, it brings together couples of all make up and might one day be used to connect groups, communities and differing factions within each for a peaceful harmonizing of what is true within each. Walking the path of our program explores the possibilities of ourselves, though it can also open up the ideas and connections for others.

On this 160th day…

Explore the relationship that comes to mind, what questions do you have of it… walk with wonder.

A Monthly Ministry of Service

TLS 365 Experience #224
October 10, 2017

My labyrinth partner and I have been giving monthly walks for many years, but my favorite thing is to create customized walks for groups.

Use of the labyrinth in ritual can bring people together for common goals and purposes, get them on the same page, resolve conflicts, enable change, open minds. Helping people plan their walk and how it might fit into a larger program can help them clarify what they really want to accomplish and put the focus on the larger purpose.

Helping to plan an event that incorporates the labyrinth is a form of ministry all its own. It has its own labyrinthine path, where we find that people come back to us again and again with changes and new ideas as they walk the path of our shared creation. It is the walk before the walk.

Nothing beats watching the joy and discovery on the faces of the people in the group as they walk out of the labyrinth at such an event, having found their inspiration and consensus, having had a profound experience and hearing about their experiences.
