Welcome June

Day 152:  June 1
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Exploration

Sand Designs by Denny Dyke

Welcome the Joy of June! We begin to find ourselves nearing the middle of the year in this month’s arrival and in our year long program of exploration and celebration of our abilities, June offers us a chance to recognize ourselves in the world of labyrinths. This month we become global in our pursuits on the path of possibilities and explore the labyrinths of the world that move past the traditional and explore the fullness of their design capacity.  Your opportunity is to join in with sharing the natural, inspired and differently designed labyrinths of the world.whatJune

Whether it is in the programming you offer for education, the design you build to provide insight, the artistry you create to share perspective or the unique ways in which you walk or connect to embrace an experience, how might those unique differences speak to your journey and yourself in the year that lives more honestly in who we truly are?

June 1st – Global to Local:

Today’s design comes from the Oregon coast where artist Denny Dyke makes a composite of symbols and designs of the labyrinth into one walking experience. The wonder is in the artist who simply puts together the things that are important and combines the pieces to make one whole experience. Today discover how can you make more out of more labyrinths. I’ve often put together many labyrinths for one experience so can relate to this Artist and appreciate the reminder to be barefoot into the goodness of what nature provides. Where you don’t have a beach, you might have a sandbox or a box for sand and finger designs.

On this 152nd day…
Explore an idea of an area of your life this month where you would like to get out of the box of conformity.

June Banner 2018 TLS 365 Experience World Wide Wonder

Welcome June

Our exploration this month is to discover the World Wide Wow in the unique and innovative labyrinth designs world wide that inspire us to move beyond the everyday and give us a larger labyrinthic look at what our path can truly provide. From the idea of living outside your box to simply doing something different everyday, allow this journey of June to educate you and your relationship to life with the labyrinth. We’e taking a global course in Labyrinthing!

  1. Get Global….Explore the World
Investigate the world wonders of labyrinth design that are unique and different. From the permanent structures that are built to the canvas portable unique designs or the finger labyrinths that inspire a different walk, share the images at the 365 Experience on the TLS website and provide some detail and share your thoughts. Note how these designs are  outside the box of traditional design and how they might take us outside the design we’ve been living in.  They can be quite diverse or small simple adjustments that make it different too.
  2. Act Local…. Bring the World to you
Let your walks, programs, designs, creations and simple enthusiasm be inspired by what the world offers us with fresh ways to create new experiences in the 30 days of this month. If it is doing something different each day, walking a new labyrinth, designing, researching or some new way to share, do it then share it with us! By becoming acquainted with the unique labyrinths of the world, we can be inspired as to why they are different, how they serve and what they offer on the same path we walk on in our home or local community area.
  3. Join the online  Mid Month Dialogues Call on Friday June 15th at 2pmPST
Be curious, research and share what you know of unique world labyrinths in the first half of the month and apply something that you find unique to your own life walk. Join us on the Mid Month Dialogues to share what you discovered, ask questions and hear from others about what they explored and discovered. Be inspired with an insight to complete the month with and make June a true world Journey.  Call connection Information

Facilitation and Creation

Day 137: May 17
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

New England Wooded Labyrinth Paths
Facilitation Experiences from Karen S. of New England, Certified Labyrinth Walk Facilitator:

The tabletop labyrinths I have designed and created were inspired by my desire to walk the path in winter, when the wooded path is buried under 3 feet of snow. I walk my original tabletop path often and have another one I love to walk that was made for me by my daughter. I’ve given a few to friends, including a bling coworker, and sold one made of pine needles and branches.

When I facilitate a walk I often offer walkers an opportunity to complete a craft to take home with them as a reminder of their time on the path. Sometimes it’s a pin, at others it’s a mandala, or a smaller path to keep with them to walk whenever they need a lift. During this relaxing, open time, participants are encouraged to share insights about their labyrinth walk experience.

Celebrating the winter for its creative inspiration, celebrating the offerings to others, and celebrate the experiences created and the take away reminders.

On this 137th day…
Celebrate where your creativity comes from, what you give and what you receive from the inspirations and appreciations.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization
May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

Virtual Sharing

TLS 365 Experience #281
December 6, 2017

When in the busy of my day online, I would take a few moments to regroup walking a virtual labyrinth on my computer at work. There was an online site in particular I was more partial to, as it gave a variety of walks and it only added the option to include music on the journey. This left the experience of the walk totally up to me.  Where other online sites that popped up over the years were well intentioned with messages, guides or stopping me with reflections; simply sharing the design as the creator intended and leaving the walk up to me became a noble gift.

In turn, I shared the site with others in the office.  There would be a random moment of familiar music that brought a smile to know that another was finding similar benefit and a moment of peace into their day. Grateful for the designers who share their simple gifts that give so much to others like myself.

Good Mourning

TLS 365 Experience #261
November 16, 2017

I lost a dear friend and couldn’t fathom how I might bear the pain of such a deep and precious part of my life. There was a void in my center that I did not think I could fill and the thought of not having another conversation or connection in the physical sense just made me want it more.

Heading out to the labyrinth, I thought to see if it held answers for me and discovered that I began to feel a little more peaceful in remembering my friend. I started having a conversation with her as I walked.  I listened and shared, imagining what she was saying or how she was responding. After awhile it just seemed like we were having one of our natural conversations and the loss slipped away as I listened and connected again.

In the center I held only gratitude and thoughts of further conversations we would have. I realized this was our friendship on another level.  On the labyrinth, new ways begin again.

Chapters of Inspiration

TLS 365 Experience #258
November 13, 2017

We might never know who we affect when we share the stories and experiences of the labyrinth and it isn’t really important to know, more to share and grow in what we know by doing so. Sometimes, we do get a glimpse of the difference it makes when we share.

A client who was curious about the labyrinth, met me on a quiet local labyrinth and found that was where she wanted to grow in our time together, so we met regularly and used the labyrinth in our understanding as its location offered a place of refuge where we were undisturbed. Over the time together, many ideas were raised and issues resolved. I could see how the results of the walks played into our sessions regularly. As she moved successfully into her own steps in life, guided by her own resilience and understanding, I would receive messages from time to time about success moments, though not much about the labyrinth or if she still used it.

So it was both surprising and delightful to hear from her in depth, learning how she had enjoyed the labyrinth in our sessions but fallen away from regular use in her daily life. It wasn’t until she began writing and fell into a slump that she remembered one of our technique’s and by using it, found herself back out on the labyrinth. As she walked, the last three chapters for her book were revealed. Even greater,  she realized now the depth of some of our earlier work and how the labyrinth was much more than a tool for coping and has since found inspiration a way to walk.

Simple Contributions

TLS 365 Experience #251
November 6, 2017

The simplest contribution we can make is when we create awareness, education or application of the labyrinth and share it with others. It can be in a presentation where information is offered. It can be in a walk where people experience it. It I can be in design, art, building, or how we use our collective and individual talents to offer the labyrinth to others.  Even just sharing your enthusiasm about the labyrinth with others about is a contribution in answering a question or in the telling of an experience.

A Closer Walk With She

TLS 365 Experience #236
October 22, 2017

A friend and I took our favorite quotes and authors to the labyrinth.

As we walked we shared the quote or the passage that moved us in the moment, while the other one stopped and listened. We continued on in this way noting the words that filled our ears to our hearts and when we met in the center we spoke of what each message gave us in the telling and how listening to it from a dear friend felt.

Listening is deep love and in this way we opened up channels of ourselves that we didn’t know about each other. Listening to those succinct in the telling held a new meaning and a profound appreciation.

Planting Seeds of Creativity

TLS 365 Experience #231
October 17 2017

Greek Key and Labyrinth The experience of sharing the seed patterns with a group of students had them doodling and designing all afternoon. In fact the next time I visited the class, new designs and ideas germinated from these seed patterns and many had been able to share where they had seen the pattern show up in design, advertising and in items found around the house.

What began as a simple idea to show the formation and foundation of the design, had blossomed into a greater understanding and application for life.

How to Expand

TLS 365 Experience #218
October 4, 2017

With the sharing that the labyrinth naturally invites;  it is hard not to contribute something somewhere when we involve ourselves with the labyrinth.

  • It can be in the form of a simple education or information.
  • It can be in a new design of the labyrinth.
  • It can be in an expression or idea that comes from a walk.
  • It can be in facilitating an experience for others.
  • It can come from a presentation about labyrinths.
  • It can come in building a labyrinth.
  • It can come in walking and feeling more personally responsible.
  • It can come in a How To example shared.
  • It can be an epiphany that arrives in finger tracing the path.
  • It can come in walking with others.
  • It can come in lending expertise.
  • It can come when we support others who share.
  • It can come when exploring the ways to walk with others.
  • It be personal in giving to ourselves.
  • It can be in how and what we share with others enjoyably.
  • It can be found in professional learning or sharing.
  • It can be a purpose filled mission for ourselves and others.
  • It can fill us when we are given ideas, advice, and acknowledgement too.

Contribution, I find, is a gift of giving, sharing and receiving.
Contribution of the labyrinth is an awareness, education and applicable experience.

Questions and Answers

TLS 365 Experience #177
Aug. 24, 2017

It was a beautiful day and one of relative calm to walk the labyrinth as a group. We had a painted design outdoors and a canvas labyrinth we had intended to use indoors. With the warmth and call of nature, we opted to move outdoors with intention to walk the labyrinth noting and answering the questions that were affixed to the borders with Post It Notes along the path. As we independently found our answers, we wrote them out in brevity each on a separate post it note and stuck it to the path border where ever we happened to be in the moment of realization.

As our walk progressed, post it notes created our borders with questions and answers. When all had completed we took another walk and found how interestingly enough the answers to a previous question found themselves situated with a different question. It was  a wonderful way to appreciate the value of questions and answers and afterwards in our sharing circle, the conversation grew rich in the discussion about how are questions become our answers and how the answers created questions. In the midst of our communication, a gust of heavy wind stirred up from the otherwise calm day and this unexpected force blew the post it notes into the air and off the painted lines of the labyrinth.

It was as if our questions and answers had come to life, reinforcing our conversation to dance in the sky together as they uplifted with the wind into a recycled purpose. It furthered our appreciation for the walk, the sharing and the messages that came. We couldn’t have planned a better ending or perspective.
