Labyrinth Meditation

TLS 365 Experience #175
Aug. 22, 2017

Chartres design labyrinth of raised bricks, Illinois

For those who find the stillness and the quiet of non movement a hardship in the quest of meditation, the labyrinth provides a place to understand the full nature of what meditation truly offers.

It is the place where we remove the distractions and become one in the moment of the moment. Where that can seem daunting to many, the labyrinth offers us the chance to still the busy task oriented nature of ourselves and let it fall away as we move into the walk. The secret of meditation is being all in to the moment we are in. When we release the world from our perspective and just walk, we are fully into that, just like if we danced and lost ourselves in the dance or sang and became the song.

When we move with the labyrinth and become the walk, the footstep, and the path we are the labyrinth and in meditation of it. It isn’t so much stillness that we seek, rather oneness with the experience we are in.

Wee Hour Walk

TLS 365 Experience #128
July 6, 2017

Up in the middle of the night, it is dark and quiet and a mysterious curious stillness is present.

I step outside and tip toe to the labyrinth, as if my walk would disturb the silence. Lack of sleep wants to speak its peace and express a truth, a direction or an action. It is where the labyrinth will communicate what is caught up in the mind and restore the body in a depth of deep listening.

Stepping in, time disappears. The night holds a luminous liminal capsule to embrace, and in its application there is a blanket of acceptance for the message that awakens me from slumber and the movement that reveals its meaning and returns me again. Perhaps it is a dream and maybe a reality; its wonder is found in this time I infrequently visit and what I absorb while there.  Just as I reach my ending, I am brought back to a new starting point, knowing a little more than before.

The weight of tiredness now apparent tells me I have found resolve and as I tip toe back into the motionless around me and slide back into the covers, I am reminded of my fluid movement of mind and body as I slow them down to once again drift off and away into the path of slumber.

Illumination Time

TLS 365 Experience #103
June 11, 2017

It’s quite when I walk.

In the dark of the moon, I like to appreciate the silence and stillness. It is as if I am the only movement. The steady light of the moon illuminates the labyrinth just enough to lay out the path before me and my eyes adjust to the rest. It is a time to savor and often I walk barefoot just to feel all that is natural.

From the activity of my day, all falls away and I am just in the moment with the labyrinth, speaking to it with my footsteps and listening in response with the whole of my body. I become the walk and hear my day more clearly and all to often,  just the moment at hand and find it very comforting and very much, enough.

Creating Labyrinth Energy

TLS 365 Experience #98
June 6, 2017

As the world is in constant change and flow, I find the labyrinth a place to accept the flow of my energy as an individual on it, though the labyrinth structure remains the same. It represents the steady and true to our understanding as it sits waiting for use and performs with the same parameters of stillness each time. I am one factor that creates change. The labyrinth doesn’t really change, I do.

The others who walk it do the same, bringing their energy to the experience and maybe leaving something behind.  It makes me consider who walked before me and who walks after as a result.

As everything that is used, shows its wear, the labyrinth change is subtle. The stones may move or roll away, the design may shift, paint can fade and marks appear on its surface. It holds a place for all of us and contains the energy of what we have infused it with. A labyrinth that looks old or care worn, is a labyrinth that has much to tell us.
