Daily Celebrations

Day 144: May 24
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Daily Celebrations with a labyrinth overlaid of rectangles and footstepsWhat practices or commitments do you make on a daily basis? Walking the labyrinth is one we can do to compliment our meditation, intentions, prayer, exercise, focus time or conscious presence. Consider our creative time, stress release or even better….joy increase and as we improve through repetition of a process or practice of it we inherently know it even more when we put an intention behind it.

It is in those practices that we can appreciate and celebrate what we are doing to promote new understanding and make improvements, particularly with an understanding of how it all relates to ourselves and our world existence. We might not even realize the small subtle steps we create as we practice and progress.  There are subtle appreciations and realizations waiting for you to acknowledge, take steps today to become more aware of them.

From eating to eating in a healthy way, to walking for discovery or improvement, the many simple things we do all day long may have a sense of repetition that we often don’t think about and gradually our abilities sharpen, strengthen and expand. The time you take today to realize how many little and seemingly insignificant things you do in the fullness of one day gradually point you to a purposeful and useful expansion of yourself. Each is a simple effort that when appreciated and realized becomes cause for celebration. The more you find things to celebrate, the larger you see the world around you.

In this design there are 196 different positive ideas of things you probably do everyday though don’t consider the celebration of them…. bserve the change when you do.

On this 144th day…
Walk with all the things you do daily and celebrate those things that you do to improve and appreciate your life.

The Month of Celebration, Appreciation and Realization

May’s Focus: Celebration

Life is a celebration to explore in the next 31 days. With the idea of walking the labyrinth and its tri-focus on releasing, receiving and reflecting, let’s shift the perspective to one that walks in with appreciation, finds the honest realization from each day and walks out in celebration.  Observe what 31 days of this focus might reflect and how it elevates our life condition.

Four focus points to expand your celebration of this month’s experience:

  1. Share your ideas, in your personal experiences, how you share the labyrinth with others, art, design or method of construction or in other ways that it may be utilized. Let others know about this daily experience and opportunity by sharing it. Find us on this blog and on the Labyrinth Societies Facebook page
  2. Join our Mid Month Dialogues on May 15th at 2pm CST for a lively look at what you have created and will create in the idea of celebration. This month’s theme was a direct result of our last month’s Mid Month Dialogue!
  3. Participate in the daily opportunity of this educational focus of  your personal journey, how you lead, teach or share with others, and what you create for contribution or purpose with this theme.
  4. Remember that our theme is about finding our greater capacities, abilities and true realities in being honest with our potential. We focus on what we can do as it is inherently more useful and productive.

Welcome May

Day 121: May 1
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Celebration

Celebration confetti and balloons rising from the labyrinthIn this year of living honestly we look at the ways we can evolve our understanding of ourselves, our purpose with the labyrinth and our connection to others in the way we share it or comprehend larger meanings. We focus on quarterly concepts such as the awareness we’ve appreciated in the first and the concept of education for ourselves and the way we use the labyrinth with others in these three months. Our focus changes to add ways to appreciate that education differently and while we used the power of amusement to widen our focus, this month’s exploration focuses on the idea of celebration.

Life is a gift to celebrate daily. Life also offers us adversity and many of our former lessons have focused on overcoming and surviving that time for appreciating the celebrations becomes the thing we do for special occasions. Living the idea of celebration through appreciation and realization is an opportunity in the next 30 days to walk differently, share differently and care differently in the month of  May. Look forward to sharing innovations and creations, sharing in our mid month dialogues and taking steps to create a celebratory experience in this month.

Moving Expansion

Day 80: March 21
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Discover

Triskelion Labyrinth and Peace Symbol entwined @TheAmusedMuse.comOn this new day of spring, the rotational symmetry of the Triskelion design is found in the three spirals that form a triple spiraled labyrinth. It is considered Pre-Celtic as it’s symbol has been found in Malta between 4400-3600 BC. It was found carved in the stones at New Grange, Mycenaean vessels, Lycian coins, and throughout ancient Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea and Tibet. Today we can find its symbolism on areas of motion such as the air corps, the US Department of Transportation fitting it’s name in the origins of the Ancient Greek, Triskeles, which means three legged.  It has been a symbol of both forward motion for understanding and competition. It is also a symbol for greater insight from the present existence to the spiritual and the celestial.

From this perspective we may take this interesting trifecta of spirals and consider the movement of our walk to appreciate the forward understandings that have brought us to this day in time, yet also consider the triple significance of greater existence or like our year of greater realization of potential, a consideration for our present circumstances in our walk with spiritual considerations and the largeness of the celestial existence. It can help us to feel the expansiveness of any current predicament or wonder.

In creating this design of the Triskelion today the three double spirals laid over a peace symbol for its similar triple appeal were separated in color and as a result demonstrated four parts to this tri-named symbol. Three simple Euclidean spirals form the outer experience, yet it is the true center Triskelion symbol that centers it all and adds a greater depth to the spiral of this day and the movement it creates.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 80th day…
Move in gradual stillness and expansion noticing how graceful both become in you.

March’s Focus

As it is now the third month of the year and our last month of growing awareness before we delve into the ways of education, allow this month be one that creates both the light hearted discovery and profound realization. How can you create more awareness with the labyrinth personally or in the ways you share with others? Where do you notice a spiral effect that takes you to the point or away from it? Be on the lookout for the spiraling nature this month.

  1. Realize
In the 31 Days this month offers, become aware of the daily realizations that you create and discover. Walking daily creates compound interest in what you look forward to and discover each day. Let March become your month of expanded capacity as you walk to make each day and adventure in exploration of what more you can explore. Seek to spiral into new and inspiring realization and whether it is rich and profound or light hearted and amusing… be open, walk with intention and you are bound to come away larger.

2. Surprise
One can realize and find much in the depth of understanding that awareness offers us, though when we look forward to realization of that depth and awareness, it can inspire new ways of appreciation and discovery in both our  process and capabilities as we are constantly growing, no matter what age. Invite the element of  surprise into what you realize as it can lift what you discover into seeing a bit more than before.  Notice the spiral effect of how you move from realize to surprise and make discovery more significant and true.

Walk of Solutions

Day 7: January 7
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Definition

where there is a problem, a solution can be walked upon.Discovering a new labyrinth from an article of research, I made plans to visit it today. It was a project that involved an elementary school and built by students, faculty and parents. Upon arriving, the school was surrounded in chain link fence without public access. School was out of session, though all area schools were addressed in the same outer containment for children’s safety. It is completely understandable, given the climate of unfathomable random behavior that has inflicted communities across the nation in recent years. It speaks largely of awareness as to how out of control this situation has become, when one moment of imbalanced mental aggression can unbelievably be so severe as to inflict a rage of misunderstood vengeance upon societies’ most innocent. Not a soul could fault such a measure of protection, though it says so much about the status of our freedom when met with this heinous instability of mental health as it does to the powerless feeling it creates in a community and the underlying freedom it curtails in a place where we want to provide it the most.

The raw and honest moment of this encounter stirred a flash of healthy angry emotion rooted in the unfairness for our most harmless of citizens on a national and global level. Walking around the perimeter, I could detect the stretch of landscape where it was most likely to reside, though it remained invisible from the distant observation. Instead of walking, I made a silent walk in my mind about what would service this moment and making contact for understanding its specific use for these children might warrant a visit with permission, learning a new story of purpose and perhaps provide an opportunity to offer a program of service with it for students, staff or parental communities.

I walked on these thoughts at a nearby labyrinth and realized it brought an honest new way to make more of the community connections I had been looking to establish. The labyrinth can provide a tool for service in such a variety of ways.

Take the time to define a problem today and realize how great the definition of your solution can be.

TLS 365 Experience 2018: The Year of Living Honestly
Whether it’s a daily walk, teaching others, sharing an experience, expressions of art, building or design, we explore the questions of what brings us to honesty in our use of the labyrinth.

In a world of emerging truth, the labyrinth is a great experience to discover more of what is right and true about ourselves and humanity. Join us in sharing the honest moments it reveals.

Daily unfolding the process:
So far we have a daily blog and an unscheduled mid month podcast to explore the monthly focus. Share this week at: 365Experience@labyrinthsociety.org

Realized Purpose

TLS 365 Experience #265
November 20, 2017

The labyrinth at our Health Center had been received with such enthusiasm only a year ago upon its unveiling, and I wondered as I walked it alone, where were the people using it today? There used to be many and I liked when I was with others, it gave me a sense that this was a tool of purpose; even when I didn’t understand it. The more often I walked it, the more I began to fall away from what I thought it was, to what it became for me.

One day in walking, I began to realize where there were many disagreements in our department, and though they do get smoothed over, the realization of how beneficial the labyrinth would be in smoothing over more of them. In fact, if they used this regularly, there just might be less of those disagreements and more time and energy for creative use.  Walking further, it dawned, that retention is something we gain by using, understanding and realizing importance and purpose. Maybe if I had stopped walking it, I wouldn’t fully understand what I do now.

By the time I finished my walk, I realized a greater value in what I could offer to re-stimulate the labyrinth by sharing my own discovery of repetitive use. I wrote an article and created a walk for our department. Later I created some walks for the center and then for the community. It was in the walking and practice that I learned how to be of value and purpose for myself and my center too. Do what interests you and share it, then you really add.

Contribution

TLS 365 Experience #215
October 1, 2017

Illinois Labyrinth focused on Contribution

October begins the last chapter of the TLS 365 Experience for 2017 and the topic is all about Contribution.  Walking on this theme this morning it seems like it would be no surprise to meet others on the walk who wanted to know a bit more. It was in meeting individuals who wanted to add a labyrinth for their community that the topic really made me smile.

Everyone of us contributes and without even knowing it most likely.  In your walk of this day, consider the value of what the labyrinth represents and how you are contributing with it. Maybe you have been contributed to by others?  It can be as simple as answering a question for someone, or as large as creating a community for understanding and using it. It can also be just showing up and supporting another’s efforts…

Share your story with us and acknowledge your efforts and those of others, together we make a wonderful contribution for awareness, understanding, and the application of the labyrinth.

Affirming Words

TLS 365 Experience #203
September 19, 2017

I’ve learned to express the thoughts that I want to live more frequently in my day. As I evolve in this new and enlightening place of resilience, I appreciate the labyrinth more. As I walk in with the thoughts and words for my day, I express them throughout the walk and what I become aware of, is the way in which I express the words changes from beginning to end.

There is either a soft acceptance and appreciable understanding or a confident knowing that affirms these words as my own. In each case, what changes in the expression as I spiral my way inward is the relationship I have with the words. Where they begin outside myself, they join me in the inward walk. By the center, I own the words. My walk outward has a different feeling, a new tone and a quality of humble acceptance.

As I leave the walk of the labyrinth, I step into the walk of my day more of myself than before.

Hope, Remembrance and Growth

TLS 365 Experience #195
September 11, 2017

On the tenth anniversary of the attack of September 11th, there was a Hope Fest in our town. It was  a way to emerge our growth through the largeness of a positive and lifting experience that we were finding a readiness for as a nation.  Asked to offer a program with the labyrinth, it seemed a good way to appreciate how the concept of hope had actually been present in each of the past years.

We had a beautiful tall glass urn in the center of the room that held a candle and encircled by 11 small candles that sat in between the two labyrinths I had brought. One would symbolize then, and the other now. We sat in silent reflection for 11 minutes hearing the clear ring of the tinghshaw instrument resounding a vibrant chord that broke the stillness. This was followed with a few softly spoken sentences that reminded of where hope had actually been present in the way that people gathered, remembered, cared and shared.

After each reading a smaller of candle would be lit and we sat in silent reflection of the moment and message before the tingshaw cleared the air for a graduate message of hope throughout.   As we reached the 11th minute to signal the coming year of Hope, all were invited to sing out a tonal articulation that was choir like to hear.

As the final message was read and the last candle lit,  the instructions were to move to either the labyrinth of then or now when they were ready. Each might walk with their own appreciation, understanding or experience of hope. It was a powerful and moving experience and the shares were rich and defined with what hope stood for in the ideals of a nation growing through its pain.

Today on this 16th Anniversary, there is a small walk planned. Like every walk I have done since the 10th anniversary, blessings for hope, rememberance and growth are always a part of the walk, though this tenth anniversary will always be remembered for its powerful lifting message.
