Beneath the Surface

Day 113: April 23
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Education
In The Month of: Amusement

The Floor Tile direction that created a labyrinth of design Just as the amusement can be found in your day when you are of mind to look for it, the labyrinth can be discovered in the most interesting places too; often that can be an equally amusing encounter to appreciate as well.  In today’s adventure both amusement came and insight in discovering first the four way pattern in the flooring of an apartment. The landlord shared that it had radiant heat flooring so the floor would always be comfortable in the winter time. At first glance the grain of which the tile moved adjacently to the next tile in a different direction brought the back and forth traversing of the labyrinth paths to mind. In viewing four of the squares, the traversing pattern changed direction and focus when moving around the four squares, similar to the concept of the Roman Labyrinth with each square completing before moving on to the next.

This design moves back and forth again in each square for a forward and seemingly backward motion that propelled a forward motion. The traversing is not unlike the radiant coils that lay beneath the surface of flooring and only after completing the design did the illustration of the flooring arrive to demonstrate a similar pattern. When we follow a feeling and flow with it, we can often learn how on track with a certain path we are. In those moments, we become most honest with ourselves in what we are capable of and often humbled by the synchronous factors that come together to remember to trust ourselves more. On this particular day, the intuitive met the creative and together the radiant experience brought a new warmth to the path laying under our feet without our having realized its value. How amusing to focus and discover how much is truly apparent about what lays just below the surface.

On this 113th day…
Discover the patterns that appear today and recall where else these similar patterns show up in other parts of life.

April's Banner Year of Living Honestly 2018April’s Focus

Let this month unfurl your creativity, spontaneity and jocularity. It feels good to feel good and while we have been conditioned to shush our good times, let the labyrinth be our own private creation station of amusement, enjoyment and playful experiments. This month educate with amusement and see how much farther you get. Have fun and be creative.  We have three opportunities to education your potential with amusement this month that involves either your personal walk, your ability to design and how much you can learn by sharing. On your Mark, Get Set…Go!

  1. Innovate – Walk Amused
In the 30 days that grace this month, play with the way you personally experience the labyrinth. Let this season of education be one of personal bests and enjoy finding a new way to be innovative, creative, inspired and amused in your personal experiences. I’d love to see what you come up with!
    Please share your wonderful experiences!

2. Create – Design Inspired
To date I have created 95 different labyrinth creations and designs since the beginning of the year, let that inspire you to create something new this month that is inspiring and firing for your imagination. Einstein said that playing with ideas was the highest form of research and this is an education for all of us.  As you walk in new ways, share your designs as I have done with mine last year and this. Perfection isn’t what we are after, amusement is! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! I will toss out lots of inspiring ideas… stay tuned daily.
Share away and become a glad designer instead of a mad one!

3. Relate – Share with Care
One of the best ways to learn anything is having to teach or explain it to someone else. Whether you facilitate others, teach or simply share with a few, spend the month discovering amusing new ways to help others get more out of their walk with a lighter attitude and a more earnest enjoyment in what you share. Anything you want to know more about, share and this month share with a fun flair and notice how much more you actually begin to understand. You just might find a side of yourself forgotten. To receive all that, be a great giver.
Share what you discover!

Heart Designs

Day 53: February 22
In The Year of Living Honestly
In The Quarter of: Awareness
In The Month of: Love

It is a blessing and a joy to bring the heart into focus in this walk of possibility we are creating daily in the 365 Experience. Leading with the heart this month has opened up numerous activities, valuable insights and appreciable gratitude in what can be accomplished in the name of simple honesty. When its not complicated, its value is immense and helps us to realize that potential is an essence of opportunity we can tap into and expand in any moment.

Today with a group of women, the conversation heart took on a new dimension of heart in the pathways of our connection and collaboration. Spreading out the Conversation Hearts, each designed and developed their own independent conversation of what their heart spoke in all honesty. The conversations that came in discussion were wonderfully rich and revealing.  Of the three I created, this is the one that I enjoyed the most.

A suggestion to walk with:

On this 53rd day…
Take steps into your heart, stop often, listen intently and continue as your heart speaks.

February’s Focus

As it is the second month of the year, enjoy two opportunities… discovery and realization.

  1. Discover your Love capacity:
This month’s 28 days will focus on how we are loving the moments we are creating. Learning to be “in love” with our focus, it expands who we are beyond the partnered relational aspects and into the focus of loving what we offer the world, who we are in community, relating at a higher level to everything and everyone; and most significantly,  elevating the relationship we have with ourselves. Prepare for a wonderful experience of exercising the power of love with the freedom of honesty to realize a greater look at possibilities and potential n a delightful way. Discover how capable you are!

2. Realize synchronous evidence:
Inspired by the variety of heart shaped labyrinths, this month capture your experiences with images of the heart. Be on the look out for where the synchronicity of the moments where your heart is in focus and then look around to see where you can find the shape of a heart in symbol. Your awareness will expand and you just might be surprised to find that when we look with an open heart, we can find it in reference near by. It does require a bit of imagination, though the findings are wonderfully worth it. Share all the heart shaped labyrinth images you find with images, links or comments and I will be happy to post the images and moments.

Realized Purpose

TLS 365 Experience #265
November 20, 2017

The labyrinth at our Health Center had been received with such enthusiasm only a year ago upon its unveiling, and I wondered as I walked it alone, where were the people using it today? There used to be many and I liked when I was with others, it gave me a sense that this was a tool of purpose; even when I didn’t understand it. The more often I walked it, the more I began to fall away from what I thought it was, to what it became for me.

One day in walking, I began to realize where there were many disagreements in our department, and though they do get smoothed over, the realization of how beneficial the labyrinth would be in smoothing over more of them. In fact, if they used this regularly, there just might be less of those disagreements and more time and energy for creative use.  Walking further, it dawned, that retention is something we gain by using, understanding and realizing importance and purpose. Maybe if I had stopped walking it, I wouldn’t fully understand what I do now.

By the time I finished my walk, I realized a greater value in what I could offer to re-stimulate the labyrinth by sharing my own discovery of repetitive use. I wrote an article and created a walk for our department. Later I created some walks for the center and then for the community. It was in the walking and practice that I learned how to be of value and purpose for myself and my center too. Do what interests you and share it, then you really add.

Perspective on Perspective

TLS 365 Experience #182
Aug. 29, 2017

Years ago I realized that I think in the style of the labyrinths.

I aimlessly doodle when I am attempting to figure things out and in doing so a meander falls onto the path of my paper and it winds around going back and forth and hits a central point before moving out again. A meander generally weaves in and out, though when my mind is working on something, there is a point I return to again and again. On paper I realized that I moved away from the point where I begin and yet again time after time as if in an endless loop I return bringing something new to consider inward until I am satisfied or realize the value of the point I was after.

I never really noticed this until I walked the labyrinth. It was as if my doodle became life sized and larger enough to see it all from a different vantage point. It appears to use perspective to create more perspective.

Pumpkin Patch Promises

Pumpkin Labyrinth TLS Annual Gathering

The Pumpkin Labyrinth at the TLS Gathering in New Harmony, Indiana

Happy Fall and welcome to the month of October. Named for the eighth month of which it once was in the Julian calendar, October is our tenth month in the year of your life.

We are daily walkers and in this month, ask what makes you committed to the path?  In a world of instant gratification and urgency, how is it that we create value in being attended to our purpose or promise each day?

What do we hold important in our walk and how is it the same or different in the other things we do in our lives for meaning? It says something about character when we can make a devotion to ourselves to listen, learn and reflect and beyond the questions of the curious mind, there is also appreciation and gratitude reflections to ourselves for what we not only say we find important, but actually follow through and stay connected to the invested time we make for what matters.

Labyrinth in a pumpkin by LabyrinthLessons.comThe pumpkin knows its season to be in the fall harvest and it yields both nutrition and savory sensation as well as a time of remembrance. Every year this time shows up and if planted, the pumpkin arrives to serve the purpose it was planted for and perhaps a little creativity along the way.

Without the intent and active nurturing components it would not arrive on schedule if at all. This is purely a seasonal expectation, though imagine cultivating the pumpkin for everyday appreciation? That is how it is with the seeds we plant and care enough to sow, when we have a value for the promise it holds, we commit the time and care to see it through.

Harvest the harmony of promise and purpose this month.
